These are some of the REAL Faber-Castell pencils. Made in Germany. These in the OP are cheap because it's cheap. Not a deal at all.

    • So these are FAKE?!

      • No, just like Oreos about a decade ago they're moving somewhere that's cheaper to produce so quality goes down but prices stay the same, or decrease a little, but they still profit heaps.

        • Sorry for the rant in advance. Perhaps when there's manual skill involved but I am certain that products such as in the post are manufactured from pre-configured assembly machines that required hardly any human intervention, and even if so, it's the technician who does it rather than "assembly line workers". So why shift operations to cheaper countries if not a lot of workforce is needed? Well warehouse lease is much cheaper, easier to do transactions, less rules, freedom to pollute, etc. I think that the reason for drop in quality is not outsourcing to cheaper countries is not the workforce skill but cost-cutting in the quality of machinery and raw products.

@bluephonebox: Agreed, the days of "Made in China" being an inference for low quality are well and truly over. Was a load of crap to begin with - anyone remember the good old days of Australian made electronics?

Nope didn't think so, it was far worse quality than anything coming out of China so it died.

  • just like my Philips Light bulb that used to be made in Indonesia, now it's made in China. lOL

but anyways, I never knew something as insignificant as 'colouring pencils' could become 'quality and 'nonquality' - not something you learn easily in Kindergarten! LOL

That's why your work never ended up on the fridge.

Of course. I suspect people are using a completely non-subjective way of ascertaining quality differences like contructing memories of using pencils from 10 or more years ago and using these to "discover" non-existent quality differences which they wouldn't have come around to examining in their minds other than the fact that they need to confirm the existing belief that China exports lower quality products than the West.

    • China quality is alright, lots of things are made there. prefer its made in china anyway

you will find the pencils are made in germany but the connector pens are made in indo as the sydney factory got closed down in 2008 to go to indo. i worked there for 25 years before the went offshore to save money

    • +1

Did staff get discounts on the connectors?

You heard his story about being replaced and that's the question you chose to raise?

  • Are these still 'cool'?

    • +4

Yeah, as long as you put them in freezer.

  • FB when made in Germany or china you can't tell the difference, hey are literally pencils and markers only…
I can guarantee you they work and don't dry up, never had and issues had more good compliments than the Officeworks/Jburrows markers which are also made in china.

  • 4-5 left at Maribyrnong OW. Quiet day today though

  • thx. got some from keswick (SA) had to reach up and grab some from the stock above. were about 8 packs, bought 4 myself.

  • 12 left this morning in North parramatta, on the clearance table

  • This is an AMAZING bargain. The 48 pack of pencils are usually $19 alone so getting 36 for $4.50 is so good.

  • I freaking LOVE COLOURING!
