Help Me Name My Business - Escape Room

Hi All,

I'm the process of opening my own escape room and I can't settle on a name for it. Many of the obvious ones are already taken and I was looking for something that is catchy and obvious at first glance what it is offering. I originally liked Arcane Escape Rooms, but I've been told not making people would identify what the word Arcane means. Key objective is to provide more then just puzzles but to provide an experience that invokes multiple feelings, be it fear, happiness, suspense, magic, imagination & laughter etc.

If the Business does kick off; I'll throw a little something something the way of the best suggestion.

Thanks in advance

    Puzzles.
    Why is it called puzzles?
    That's the puzzle.

!epascE (Logo in the shape of a key)

Tagline: Going backwards may be the only way forward.

    • BUT in reality, going backwards doesn't help you go forward. BOOOM!

      • Ahh, but that's where it is a puzzle. Sometimes you need the information you gathered going forward, to go back and solve the problem at the beginning! :) So going backwards is actually going forwards..

Oh no, I've gone crossed eyed.

      • @Drew22 You've obviously never played a Metroid game…

Just fyi, it's the name of a gay club in canberra.

      • Eh, all sorts of clubs use all sorts of names. Some include:

        • Mynt (pronounced 'Mint')
        • Barcode
        • Volt
        • Velvet
        • Oxford

The thing is: many use unassuming names which may (or may not) relate to what it actually is.

      • +4

do they have the same tagline?

      • "Cube", or "It's a Trap!"? ;)

        • cube

As long as I can go to either for cheap Spirytus, I'm happy.

    • I would like to see a escape room based on that movie, where you have to solve a whole bunch of puzzles only to find out the exit is the room you started in.

Thanks all, Some really great ideas (and some terrible ones … Couldnt even spell escape backwards correctly :p)

I dont want to say where it will be based at this time, but there is currently none at the location.

I like Xcape Rooms, but thats already taken, Aladdins escape room reeks of copyright infringements & probably shouldnt name it after a gay bar.

Keep the ideas coming though, Im sure we are close

    • "I dont want to say where it will be based at this time, but there is currently none at the location."

Is it a real place? - I assumed it was one of the million escape room games on mobiles.

      • Yes, this is a physical escape room, not online or an app. Sorry if this wasnt clear.

        • I did not know there was such a thing. So are they like the vid games? (where you, say, find a key to unlock a box to get a hammer that breaks the…)

        • +2

          @PVA:
Maybe not so much breaking stuff, but yes there is many of them all over Australia. Essentially they are team building or group activities, some of the well run ones are very exciting and well thought out. There is a mixture of finding things, solving puzzle, hands on activities and the key is themed, making the people in the room feel like they need to escape in time.

        • @cypher67:

          interesting.
So do the rooms change or if someone visits once then thats it they know what to do?

          Any on the Gold Coast?

        • @PVA: What's your loc? There are at least 3 in melbourne

I don't know what an escape room is… And at this point I'm too afraid to ask.

    • You can always ask google. I was afraid too and that's what I did.

    • +2

Essentially a room where you have to solve puzzles in order to escape before the time runs out. You can think of the "Saw" movies but generally less scary/intense.

The better ones are thematic in design so that the puzzles have a context e.g. a horror escape room where the synopsis is about "you went exploring an abandoned high school where a young student died under mysterious circumstances a long time ago. You entered the room but the door mysteriously locks behind you…" and the room is set up as a classroom at night, you are given only a torchlight, all the puzzles are related to diary notes left by students, school instructions with blood stains etc, etc.

Generally good Escape Rooms will also rate the difficulties of their rooms, with easier ones being more straight forward and logical (e.g. you come across puzzle 1, solve it and it will unlock puzzle 2.) Whilst harder ones will require more abstract thinking, e.g. there might be 5 puzzles from the get go but you will only have the initial clues to solve one of them, if you can figure out which one. Harder difficulties might also require you to go back and forth from previously solved puzzles to get more clues.

They're slowly popping up in Australia but they're more popular in Hong Kong, Singapore and even in the UK I think.

See what I did there? Not only does it make reference to your business (i.e. the need to escape) but also ties it with Social engagement/interaction of a business nature (i.e LinkedIn)

  • Riddle Rooms

  • I think you need to have a strong theme and name it from there as a generic puzzle room name may not fit the vibe you're going for. My name generic suggestion is puzzlequest

  • The Past. The Present. The Future.

    Or…

    Past,Present,Future.

    Tag Line: You Choose

    Puzzle Lust.

Tag Line: Unlock your inner fantasy

    • Why not just call it 'Tense'?

  • Alcatraz…or Long bay?

Since it's apparent some gay bars have stolen a name you could use, maybe you should switch it on them and just call it "Frank's Gay Bar".

How about just simply "Box" or "The Box", very marketable, simple, short and snappy.

    Or from your name "Decypher"

    Enigma, Encryption, Decript, Nemesis,

"Fuga" is escape in Latin, or effugere is 'to escape'

Has (The) Panic Room(s) been suggested? expandable and franchisable…

(Can you escape) The Vault, The Cage, The Cell, The locker, The Dungeon, Bunker, Castle, The Cube, Prism, SafeHouse, Hole in the Wall, Area: X, The Maze, Rubik's Room, Underground, Tunnel Vision, Vacuum, Entrapment, The Web, Labrinth, The Temple, The capsule, Encapsul8, Captivate, Captiv8,

If your specialising in corporate you could go with "The office"

    Escapology, Escapism, Houdini, Cloak Room,

Inside:Outside, Outside:In … could also relate that to a theme?

[Do you have] The Key, Magic Key, Master Key, Bronze/Brass, Skeleton?

F.E.A.R and come up with some sort of acronym to suit?

Answer, Response, Guesswork, Equation, Paradox, Twisted, Black Hole, New Dimension,

The Hidden Clue, The Quest, Mystery Quest, Mystery Box, Clueless,

    Finders Keepers

Do you have any themes or more info? Do you prefer single words, double barrels, "xxx room"?

Will it be a specific theme, or multiple themes changing with popularity?

    Journey Out

  • Dr. Euclidean's Enigmatic Escapatorium

  • How about "Outside". Or a slight mispelling of the name such as "Outcyde"/ "OutSyd" (particularly if its in Sydney??)

as in the intention of any escape room is to get outside.

Also has an interesting ring to to it 'Wanna go outside???"

Alternatively the opposite might also work "Inside".
