    looks yummy

    • +1

      It is! :)

  • +7

    Again? I'm all in!

Sucks it's only a day though, I was eating this everyday for that week they had it last time haha

  • +11

My experience from last time, if they asked you: do you want sourcream, guacamole etc those werent free, if you say yes your Burrito wont be $5 anymore.

    • +3

Yes of course, they're always additional.

      • +8

Then they should say that when offering. I haven't memorised their menu.

        • +8

Yep they should always say : do you want item ABC on your meal for an additional X dollar"

        • -2

Do you also expect going from small to large to be free at McDonalds? Read the menu, not hard. Or ask, it's not their problem.

    • +3

Ha - you just got upsized, sucka!

      • +1

I had to pay before my burrito was put together so I told her I just want the $5 burrito. escaped the upsize.

    • they charge extra for sour cream?

      • Let's see. My burrito with brown rice, guacamole and sourcream was $8.5 during the special.
Guacamole is $2, brown rice $1, so unless the 50 cents was the smile fee, pretty sure it has to be for the sourcream.

        • Wait they charge extra for brown rice as well wtf?

That's almost the price of a mad mex burrito and that comes with brown rice and sour cream.

  • +1

Sweet lunch for Tuesday week is sorted.

    • +2

Finish off with kfc 9pcs for $9.95 at night lol

      • +2

        The ultimate colon cleanse.

  • Damn how come QLD missed out ?

    • Do you mean for the Coronas? Each state licenses alcohol sales differently, might be something to do with that.

    • possibly a mistake? they had them $5 during the last promo. who knows.

  • +4

The fact that they can casually half the price of their food $11.95 -> $5 really shows the extent of their profit margins..

    • +1

I reckon they made much more money in that $5 week than they have with all the weeks combined ever since - hence having another $5 day?

      • +1

So true. They needed a security guard at Australia Sqaure coz there was so many people lining up to order. They are very yummy but not worth the full price. I only buy it when its $5 because really its only cheap beans and rice

    • +2

This is not really economically true. There's many reasons they may offer such a discount, eg as a trial to get people to have something they haven't had before, or even selling at a loss to raise brand awareness.

Exactly the same as Woolworths offering a product which has a 25% profit margin at 50% off, where they hope it'll encourage you to use them and not the competition and then additional hope that you'll buy other items at higher profit margins…

    • +2

Whilst they wouldn't be losing money on each item they sell (i.e. the ingredients would be less than $5 each), there's no way they'd be making a profit after paying their high rents and wages. At best they'd be breaking even, but they'd probably be losing a fair bit.

Put simply, if it was profitable to do this every day, then competition would dictate that somebody would do this every day.

      • -1

Ever heard of economies of scale?

        • Mate if McDonald's can't sell as cheaply as this, it can't be done. Economics 101. Or do you think we've got a food cartel?

        • -3

@JohnHowardsEyebrows: Toaster, McDonald's sell a reasonably inelastic product. Even if you don't agree, go ahead buy yourself a profit for Gomez

    • +1

They also do free burrito days when opening a store and I wouldn't call that "showing the extent of their profit margins". It's marketing, and great marketing at that. Just as franchise costs include costs of free burrito day, I'm sure it somehow covers certain promotions also.

      • -2

I never said free burrito days showed the extent of their profit margins, read the comment.

        • +1

          Comparative example, read my comment.

        • You've said a lot of spurious, ill informed things. Quit while you're still not so far behind.

    • +1

It's not casual, it's a regular cinco de mayo thing. And it's funded from what would be their advertising budget, a cost but a necessary one. Instead of buying ads, they spread the news via social media, like here.

  • +1

Expect long queues (at least in the Sydney CBD). I'm aiming for an early lunch to try minimise waiting time.

  • +1

Nice getting this tommorrow for lunch and dinner

  • +2

Got mine at 10:45, no lines then at Brisbane.

    • My burrito is now exiting me.

That makes the rental about $1.60 an hour. Good deal.

    • Round 2.

  • No lines at world square 15 mins ago.

  • Limited to two per person ? What garbage !!!
That condition wasn't there last time…
    I bought four.. Twice…

    • +6

Probably because people like you bought 8 last time.

    • Last time this was on the guy at the counter just put my purchase for three through as two transactions.

    • +1

      Broden, is that you?

      • +2

I'm just waiting to see these burritos for $6 on ebay…

    • It says "limited to 2 Burritos, Mini Burritos or Burrito Bowls per person per visit." However it also says "Customers can take part in the $5 promotion as many times as they like during the promotion period."

    • It says limited to 2 but I asked if I can buy 4 and the girl told me sure. I think they won't stop you if you buy more.

  • Australia Square is open till 5pm if you dont want to wait. I just bought mine from there and although there is almost 50 people waiting It only took about 6mins wait

  • I'm gonna get a bunch.

  • On my way to GyG Canberra right now. Come at me, steak chipotle.

  • +1

Just had at UQ GYG :)

Pork chipotle and the barra are great.

  • +1

Is it just me or is this deal missing from the front page?

    • +1

It was a highlighted deal earlier, but just like Keyser Soze… poof… it's gone.

  • Note that while they don't accept American Express, they do take Paypal, which of course can be linked to Amex. More $ on the Westpac Black!

  • Not on the main page today and i missed out, darn it!

  • This was on the main page and then it was removed for some reason ??

    • …it's expired.

  • Yeah i mean it was removed like mid-afternoon on the day, it still had many hours to run but it was removed mid-deal…

A bunch of people missed it because of that I think..
