Worth paying $22 for Redbook to valuate my car?

Hi all,

Trying to sell my Subaru forester 2011 with pretty high KMs (180k kms), but I have no idea how much to sell it for due to its high kms (hard to gauge vs the rest in the same category). It has a roo bar installed though, so not sure if that compensate for the high kms. Trying to get a good idea on the price through redbook. Is it worth paying $22 to do that though? Cheers

  • Go here, choose your exact model, click on More Details, and you will see a price range for private sales: higher the kms, lower the price, of course.

    • I did that, but that max kms shown for my car is only 100k, so i have no idea how to judge that. Hence, contemplating whether I should pay $22 instead? Will it give me different result or just a way for them to earn dirt easy money?

I'm actually selling my car to business, so my business partner need to know what the actual market value is..

      • Not sure what your $22 would get you. The roo bar is likely to be a positive for some buyers and a negative for others, so a neutral factor in valuation. If your business partner will use the vehicle as you did, then he should be willing to pay a bit more for it. A motor dealer would be able to give you a market value, surely?

        • Auto dealer don't even bother talking to me when I told him how much I will get by trading in the car? Said the kms is too high..ask redbook =.="

  • Pretty high kms?
Its a four year old car and you've got 180,000 kms on it? Basically 45k per year.
    Wow.
Just look on the various car sales websites for similar vehicles and price accordingly.

    • The problem is I can't compare due to its high kms. It was used to drive 110kms almost every day, or more..

  • Just go to carsales.com.au and have a look at comparable models with around the same mileage.

    I just saved you $22.

      Same reply as above..

The roo bar wont compensate. It will probably decrease the value especially on a high mileage car (unless you are based in the country).

It can shout - off road use.

Many car yards will remove roo bars spot lights etc which give of the off road use signal to buyers. Off road use can be seen as the car being treated badly. Not always true, but it's a buyers perception issue.

    • I'd say private sale price will be more like $13-14k max if OP want's to sell it is a reasonable time.

    drive to a Subaru dealer.

    ask.

they give perfect answer. (not hypothetical)

add a grand or 2 if u still intend on a private sale.

take the dealer price if u don't want the hassle.

write the loss off on ur tax. (and there will be a loss)

    case closed.

  • I'll can value your car for 21$, bargain!

jk, seriously just look at carsales and make an judgement call and what your willing to let it go for.
