Where do I go for Desktop PC's in Sydney?

Hey, I live on campus at USYD and I was wondering if there were any places or things you'd do specifically to find a good PC?

For example, if I wanted a subwoofer/router I'd go to static ice and check it up, see MSY as like 4th in the list and be like "oh awesome, lets take a bus ride over there and buy it. yay!"

My question to you is if there are any |||shops||| (aka not online websites) in Sydney where they sell assembled PC's with a brand that people know. Monitor is optional since I can always buy it separately (but I think everyone sells monitors together?)

The Specs I'm looking for:

2GB-4GB RAM
1GB Video Card (not integrated, apparently if it's around the $300 mark it's a good bang for buck mark?)
3GHz+ Processor (single or dual core dunno which one would be necessary now days)
24" Monitor (I think they are going for around $270 by themselves now days, high response ones-aka low quality/gaming quality ones anyway)
Harddrive Size not really important
Last but not least, up to $2000AUD (preferably at the $1300-$1600 mark)

I basically want something that can play all the games smoothly on the market at the moment (hence the 1GB non-integrated Graphics Memory). However I don't want an overpowered PC with a beasty fan system/water cooling.

Thank you sooo much if you've read this far! Before posting it said to be specific, so I tried :P

  • Dell via Officeworks?

    • Hmm, saw the Dell Inspiron 545MT Desktop PC Q8300 on office works. Looks pretty good, but for example, the Logitech z-2300's cost around about $279.95 at office works, however only $165 at MSY.

Surely there must be a place like MSY that sells computers of those specs for cheaper?

  • This Asus one might be alright but it's not quite 3Ghz and you may want to dump the 21" monitor:

you can get msy to put the stuff together for you. Otherwise just get some mates to do it with you. Grab a 6 pack, buy the parts, and put it together…

Agree with Davo, getting MSY or another PC shop to build a system for you is probably the most economical, though warranty and support will be a pain if you need to use it.

Can't seem to find MSY' build fee, but it wouldn't be more than $100.

For gaming, this is what I'd recommend (since you're familiar with MSY, prices mostly from there)

      CPU: E8400 $204
      Mobo: GB EP45-UD3L $118
      RAM: 4GB Kingston 1066Mhz $109
      HDD: 808 GB WD $75
      DVD: BenQ DVD RW $39
      PSU: Seasonic M12 II 500W $119
      OS: Win7 $103
      Build Fee: ~$100
      MON: BenQ G2420HD $241 delivered (9289.com.au)
      Sub total: $1108
Just add GPU and case to suit your budget, my preferences below (for minimising noise) as well as MSY alternatives

      GPU: Sapphire 4890 1Gb Vapor X $250 (9289.com.au) or from MSY HIS 5770 1Gb $191
Case: NZXT Hush $130+pp (AnyPC) or from MSY Thermaltake V9 $109

So bout $1500 or so for a gaming rig that'll take care of pretty much all current games at max settings. Just add peripherals to suit!
