Air Fryer recommendations

Hi,

I recently purchased the Spice I am cookbook and is in love with making my own crispy pork belly recipes.

the problem is I deep fry the pork outside in oil and seriously, its like an explosion with oil spilling everywhere and it got a bit dangerous.

looking at an air Fryer. any recommendations?

Thanks

Hmm… I am a new owner of a Kogan air fryer. I can't speak for other models, but I have a feeling they will all be very similar.

To me, the air fryer is not actually a good substitute for frying. It is a convenient way of baking/roasting a small amount of food quickly without having to wait for your normal oven to preheat. Saves money in our household on electricity bills and no more soggy pies from the microwave.

The wife air fried some home made spring rolls in the air fryer and the skin came out tasting like paper. I don't think there is any good substitute for oil when frying. :)

  • I got the larger Kogan air fryer and it has been fantastic so far, nothing wrong with it.

I too have to larger Kogan air fryer, and still use it all the time. Great price too.
I've tried heaps of food in it and most of it comes our amazing!

  • Avancer Air Fryer.

  • I have the Tefal Actifry works great.

  • We use the Philips XL… It is great. Only downside is trying to get the accessories in the bigger size :)

  • Have you considered a ~$20 turbo cooker for cooking pork belly? It's probably the best device for getting crispy pork skin and the glass bowl makes it easy to clean up.
You might just need an extender ring that lifts the heating element top higher for larger roasts.

    • turbo cooker? you mean the halogen cooker?

I tried oven roasting it.. not the same as deep fryiong pork belly and the crispiness of it was amazing.. like eating meat chips…

      • halogen cooker… Yeah I guess they are the same thing.

I'm not much of a fan of deep frying pork belly. There's too much moisture in there, which looks like why you are looking for an air fryer.
There will be a fair bit of juices/oil coming out. Not sure how the air fryer handles this?

I think you should ask of those who do own an air fyer: Have you actually tried cooking pork belly in it and how well did it work?
