I do too. that's why I would buy their books. Careful what you say on this forum - it isn't you tube.
Belief in a 'higher power' is a coping mechanism for dealing with awareness of the human condition
Science only goes so far. Rationally explain consciousness and why anything can exist. Atheism takes just as much faith imo.
@rilebags:
"I don't understand something, so god must have done it."…a.k.a wilful ignorance@yoyomablue: Theism is logically plausible and is supported by historicity, philosophy and even science.
@yoyomablue: Actually the opposite, yoyo. Based on the evidence of a complex, detailed and remarkable world, the theist concludes that nothing can come from nothing, let alone the aforementioned remarkable world. Thus there must be a god.
Alternatively, based on the evidence of a complex, detailed and remarkable world, the atheist concludes that everything did actually come from nothing, and that it happened in a big bang, followed by tiny iterations over billions of years.
Given that man has never encountered "nothingness" (nor will we ever be able to), I would argue that the later is far more on the basis of wilful ignorance than the prior.
@mriethmuller: and the latter is typically associated with scientific investigation, the opposite of wilful ignorance, whereas the prior is typically associated with a lack of investigation, the less effortful option (lest one's ideology be threatened).
No surprise then that research has repeatedly found that atheists, on average, have higher IQ than theists.I tip my fedora to you good sir
@cantstanzya: I guess life is safer inside an ideological bubble…
@yoyomablue:
Really? In my experience the everyday atheists I talk to can't reconcile this world with a God, and therefore say there is no god. Most don't do much scientific investigation but instead find it a comfortable worldview.Secondly, you make an unsubstantiated presumption that belief in a God is associated with a lack of investigation. Given that this actual post is about a bookshop, filled with books about theistic investigation, I think the evidence in this case counts against you.
Further, given the incapacity for either camp to scientifically prove their position, the whole "we investigate stuff, you don't, so nerr" doesn't really hold up.
Finally, You're kidding me right? I'd recommend reading more broadly than Dawkins…For example.
http://www.randalolson.com/2014/08/24/the-myth-of-the-smarteā¦ps. I'll read your reply if it comes, but this sort of stuff belongs in the forums so I won't reply further.
@mriethmuller: as with anthropogenic global warming, I'll rely on peer reviewed science than two bit ideoblogs. The former being the more intellectually rigorous path.
Even though more educated people in psychology and the corporate world now realise that EQ is more important than IQ.
IQ is nothing more than a number that measures intellectual aptitude
Belief in a 'higher power' is a coping mechanism for dealing with awareness of the human condition
Show me your peer reviewed research thesis that backs up this claim
Thanks for posting OP
There's only so many bibles one can buy. Or free if you take a Giddeon version from the local motel.
