    wow that's a massive saving

Glad you put 'largest discount ever' in your title, this should totally guarantee front page action…

    • +2

its false advertising. Wasnt there $100k off a Rolls Royce a couple of months ago

  • +4

It'd be difficult to get an Uber bill up to $90 whilst staying within Perth. Maybe a long trip to the airport in an Uber Black.

Uber sure are cheeky though, this discount is because of the Taxi strike.

  • do the above codes work anywhere else?

  • +1

Who is Sam? Will Sam get bigger discount?
Who is Max? Will Max get no discount?

  • How do I know if the promo has been applied to my account to be used for my next ride

    • you can see it when you login to your account payment page , i think under promotions

    • if you go to "payment" you should be able to see your available credits

      • Hm…All I see is my credit card that's attached to the account.

when I try to apply the code, it says it's already been applied.

        hm..

        • Nevermind, wasn't showing up on the app, but is working on the website :)

  • +2

The dodgy thing with uber is when the ride finishes it automatically charges your credit card and if the promo code wasn't eligible you will be charged the full amount.

    • Not true - Go the website (not app) and you'll see your credits.

      • +3

The credit will be applied to your account but it may not be eligible for the trip and you won't know until after you've paid.

        • +1

You are correct. I tried to use ihatemax and got charged full amount in Sydney

        • @macksta:

I contacted uber though and they refunded the amount of the voucher to my account which was good.

  • Sam & max freelance police?

Love those guys, but the issue I have with uber is trust. What are people's experiences? For example, at 2am

    • +1

ive never had a problem with Uber in Sydney

Love the service and for me its cheaper than a Smelly Taxi

    • Never rode it at 2am but no problems at other times in Perth. I think uber asks their drivers for a police clearance and it can't be worse than a taxi service…

    • +1

At 2am I've had a lot better reception with Uber than cabs. Cabs will never pick you up for short fares etc or are gender biased. Uber drivers I've had no qualms.

    • And you trust regular cabs? I use Uber in Sydney and Melbourne on a weekly basis and they provide a far superior service to a regular cab.

Thanks already used IKNOWSAM for $50 from Sydney airport to townhall station. Used for uber black, uber x is cheaper but prefer x, good to repost this op, works everywhere.

IKNOWSAM is country wide I Believe and Ihatemax is for Perth.
Once applied the code it shows in your uber account in full website.

    • Iknowsam is no longer $50. It has been ozbargained and is now $20 off first ride. Gotta find code worth at least $40 off and works in Sydney. Anyone have one ? :P

    • Angry passengers protest against smelly taxis, use Uber instead.

The two worst things about taxis:

      1. You can't trust them to turn up. If they don't like the look of the job (eg: short fare) they don't bother. YOU NEED 100% RELIABILITY. 99% is not even good enough.
      2. Price. It was bad and now it's excruciating.

Perth taxi companies chose to run their business this way. Since they created the mess, they need to stop crying about it.

      • I love Uber and their service, but I don't find them really much cheaper than a regular cab, but I use them for the far higher service levels alone.

Personally, I will never use Uber. I would much prefer my higher taxi fares, which part go back to local councils from the regulatory and licence fees and be used to fund council services (schools, hospitals etc). Use Uber service and yet more money leaves the local economy back to a US corporation….

at least Uber are creating more Jobs in Australia.

Other Aussie Corporations are moving our jobs to countries of cheap labor.

          god not this crap again.

LOl re funding hospitals and schools. Can it get any more nauseating? You should have thrown in mothers with prams for the full Today Tonight effect.

        • I've met quite a few Uber drivers - they're definitely not making minimum wage - most make about $30/hour on average (doesn't account for car running costs).

    • +3

I haven't tried Uber so i can't say much but heard plenty of satisfying reviews. However, i'll definitely avoid using taxis at all cost if i can.

From my experience taxi drivers are dodgy and like ripping people off. One time i took a cab and the fee was $25.40 on the meter and i wanted to pay card cause i didnt have any cash. The taxi driver changed the amount from $25.40 to $50.40 while trying to cover the screen on the eftpos assuming i'll just pay without checking. Asked him about the change and he gave me all this BS. He also didn't provide me a receipt when asked and said he ran out of it.

My point is that YOU think it goes to the local councils (which is good if it does) but the truth is it goes into their pocket.

TL;DR Taxi drivers are rip offs but complains when Uber rips them off

  • Poor Max, never gets any love

I loved seeing the Perth Cabbies get angry about Uber.

They respond to Uber's emergence by striking and forcing more clientele onto….Uber.

    Well done.

    • If cabbies (not plate owners) had half a brain they'll jump ship to UBER rather than whinge about it.

    • +1

They've taken a page out of the Qantas customer service manual.

I've taken two Ubers in Perth, both @ ~2AM:

The rides came in a few mins [which you could track on your app]. We got a call both times saying the ride is up the road and to come outside. Cars were near new and in immaculate condition, drivers were professional. Free water and mints. Safe drivers. Drivers seemed happy with the money they were making with Uber. Asked for suggestions on how to get 5/5 ratings.

My experience of Swan taxis in Perth:

"Next available will be sent" which can be anywhere from a few mins to half an hour. Generally a dated car. Several times the driver has smelt extremely bad. Once the driving was so extreme I had to ask the driver to slow down around corners.

TLDR I've never walked away from a Swan taxi going "Gee, that service was an amazing & convenient service." I have for 2/2 rides with Uber.

This is sure to piss off them cabbies even more.

I used to travel for work a fair bit and have met some nice and some not so nice taxi drivers so I don't really want to comment too much on that. But what I really don't get is the 10% surcharge on all card payments and that includes efpos! The taxi industry needs some healthy competition and a serious shake up. Time for a wake up call I say!

  • +1

The problem with the high cost of taking a taxi is due to

    1. plates (rego, lease etc.) - this is a huge chunk of money. this is essentially "renting"
    2. insurance - not your average aami/sgio
    3. cabcharge - 10% on top to facilitate the transfer of money by sending a few bytes is (profanity) ridiculous.

Most taxi drivers get jack at the end of the day. They should be lobbying for change within their industry's structure, not trying to ban uber.

p.s. I am not a taxi driver, I just take a lot of taxis

    • Yes. Plates cost a house. $300 to 600k depending on the state. That is a big and stupid overhead to carry…

  • Silly question. But confused

Do you get credit by registering and then taken off on first use or do you have to use the credit in a certain time and therefore need a to be applied at time of use?
