I bought the 16 pack from them and delivery was fast. Good seller.

    • I bought a 12 pack from Amazon UK for about $78 (from memory). Arrived within 10 days. Only difference is UK stock is made in the UK while ours is made in Germany. No actual difference in quality or product.

    • The Brita filters in the UK are designed to last for 1 month.

The stock that is sold over here lasts for 2 months.

Now I dont know if there is a physical difference in product but there might be a difference.

If there is a difference and the UK ones last for only 1 month vs 2 months for ours, then you would be obviously replacing twice as often.

      • Hmm, interesting. I had not noticed that before. Just went to check my UK imported pack and indeed, it states 12 filters for 'one year of great tasting water'. So far I'm on my first filter at about 7 weeks and haven't noticed any chlorine taste in the water. I live in Adelaide and our tap water quite honestly is foul.

I don't have any German made filters at the moment to weigh against the UK sourced filter. Maybe the UK filters have less activated carbon? Maybe it's just marketing hype (1 versus 2 months, trying to get people to replace them much more often than needed).

Made in UK ones weigh more than the ones made in Germany. Can't remember the exact weight, but from memory the Australian ones (Made in Germany) weighed just over 100g (105g or somewhere around there, these were sourced from various Australian retailers when they're on special), the UK ones were at around 125g-130g (mine were sourced from Amazon).

FYI.. This is sold out at most MYER's in VIC. (According to their website)
But it's in the MYER catalogue and Target policy is that you have to present the actual catalogue.
I had it price matched at Doncaster Westfield.

  • They also sell these at Costco in a 8 pack, I forget the price though.

    • $64 in Adelaide. $8 per filter.

Wanna know what these things are great for? You may not believe this, but…

FILTERING CHEAP VODKA TO IMPROVE ITS QUALITY.

Step 1: Buy the cheapest 40% vodka you can get.
Step 2: Filter it through one of these charcoal filters, like 10-20 times (the more times you filter, the smoother it'll get).
Step 3: Put a few ice cubes and two measures of Kahlúa into a good-sized tumbler.
Step 4: Add milk or unthickened cream until the liquid is two fingers from the top of the glass.
Step 5: Fill to the top with the filtered vodka and stir
Step 6: Enjoy the smoothest White Russian you've ever had, baby.

    PM me for more recipes

Anyone use the filters more longer than recommended? Ive rest it once already.

until it tastes like non filtered water!!!

      • Can't differentiate between filtered or not, hm…

        • +1

don't use the filters if that's the case

    • I always use it for double the recommended time…..

      • Yeah i double it too

    • my display is dead..out of battery maybe. so i can't remember how long it's been since last replacement! true ozbargainer style

      • Maybe its time to get a new jar…

        • i was wondering about the battery in the lid, i assue the battery will run out sooner or later? what happens when it dies? new jar? new container? new battery?

        • @tc4101: don't think u will be able to replace the battery

      • Nah, the display is just their way of making you change every 3 months. This can vary according to usage; I change every 6. Just put a recurring event in your calendar or a note in the kitchen.

    • I use mine for just over 2 months if your entire family's drinking supply is going through it. The Brita filters from the UK (supposed to be 1 month supply) actually weigh hh
heavier than the made in Germany filters that are for Australia @2months.

Since my second jug is for myself, I try to go for 3 months, however please watch the water as I've seen it happen on both of my jugs - bits of green colour have formed in the jug, especially for the older jug where a bit of water will be stuck in between the inner jug wall and the outer wall of the water reservoir. For the newer Marella jug, the water was contaminated right after the filtered water discharge under the filter.
Obviously I cleaned the jugs after I noticed this (they had a… Not nice smell when I opened it)

So while you can use it for longer than recommended, keep an eye out.

4 pack for AUD $ 28.88 Delivered in front of your house

This Deal need another $ 10 to be delivered in front of your house. Sorry OP for the neg, but thanks for the effort.
    Nothing personal , Just business

    • But that is eBay. It's overseas. Will be useful to some but not all.

This is bricks and cement shop. Good deal for people who don't like online purchases or can't wait for delivery.

      Nothing personal. Just business.

      • Yes, you have a point there. If you can't wait & really deperate for filtered water, buy it from MYER.
But I guess the majority people who search through OZbargain is really familiar with online purchase so this won't be an issue + they can just heat up the water / leave the water in open-jug and leave it for 24 hours to get rid of the chlorine

Anyway the OZbargainers can refer to some "old-style" people who really hate to interact with gadget.

PS: Why my neg deleted? I thought neg guideline is for "The deal is not the cheapest available"

    • Unless I'm missing something, that eBay deal is $28.88 + $4.99 delivery.

I've been using these Kmart "Homemaker" brand filters in my Brita Maxtra jug - they work fine and are cheaper
    http://www.kmart.com.au/product/homemaker-water-filters---3-…

    • I used the Homemaker ones too for a couple of years after buying a whole stack of them when they were on sale at ~$2 a pair. They have noticeably less filter medium in them than the Brita ones (and you can tell that the filtrate passes through them a lot quicker), but hey…cheap!
Currently starting on 5 x 3-packs of German-made AquaSelect filters that I found on clearance at my local Woolworths for $11 per 3-pack. They're of similar heft to the real Brita filters.

  • Isn't tap water good enough. Just curious why people use this.

    • Drink side by side and you will know the difference

    • Also good for coffee machines – removal of particulates, softening water for less scale formation, and neutralising the taste.

      Adelaide tap water.
      'Nuf said

      • Indeed. Anyone who can't immediately smell the chlorine difference between filtered and straight Adelaide tap water probably has no sense of smell.

    • I have amoebas in my tap water. Have to either boil or filter the water.

Bought it at this price on Saturday and didn't think it was a deal!!

  • Would these Maxtra cartridges filter out Lead(Pb) in water!?

    Apparently it won't filter Flouride.

    • There is very little lead in our tap water anyway. The major concern is the foul smell of chlorine that lingers in some tap water (especially in Adelaide).

  • Happy that bought 5 of these at masters box hill for $5 each…
Also bought some bottle filters at OW dandenong south for $2.5ea.

I never buy these at full price, stock up when they are on specials…
BigW have 30% off every now and then.

Don't think anyone on this forum buys stuff at full price :)

      • oh…forgot about that. 😉

  • Are there any good deals on jugs at the moment?

Was in Myer CBD Sydney a while ago, didn't see any 4x packs on the shelf, only 2x packs. Probably OzBargained. Will probably share an eBay purchase with a friend.

    • Thanks, saved me a trip - we have enough water problems as it is.
