Motorcycle Issues - Help Appreciated (Seeking Motorcycle Mechanic in Melbourne)

Hi Guys,

I have a 2012 Honda CBR125R which has begun to play up on me over the last few thousand kilometres.
Basically the main problem is that the engine isnt getting fuel into it when cold.
It will without a doubt drop below 1k revs and cut out every time I ride it.
It will start easily, revs will increase up to 2k revs then slowly decrease down to 1.5k then it will slowly continue to decrease down to 1k and cut out (this occurs over about 1-2 minutes).
I will also take off and drive a few kilometres, stop at the traffic lights and it will cut out. If I keep the engine revving above 1.5k it will stay alive perfectly fine. Once it is warm it is fine.
I've replaced the fuel filter because it was in need of it, I then took the thing a part, cleaned out the air filter (it was already clean), sprayed/cleaned out the throttle body/throttle plate with carby cleaner and nothing has worked.

At this point I believe its the temperature sensors that act as a choke to change the mixture when its cold (the bike does not have a choke its all computer shiz).

If anyone has any recommendations on what the problem could be it would be greatly appreciated, I have a medium amount of mechanical knowledge.

BUT the main part of me posting to this forum is not to receive a random solution (unless anyone has a feasible one, I dont want to be spending hours fixing the thing).

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a motorcycle mechanic in Melbourne to me?
I live in the inner west and I work in Southbank.

And no I will not be taking it to Peter Stevens.

I'd preferably want to take it to someone with a knowledge of Honda's so that they are more likely to turn around and say "yes that is a common problem this is the issue" rather than have someone attempt to diagnose it.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you :)

have a read of this, not sure if its relevant

    • Yeah I saw that guy but never thought that it would actually be worth wild, ill give it a shot now.
      Thanks!

EDIT: Yep nope thats a paid service.

  • The 125rr is carburettor fed, isn't it? Does this only happen when it's cold? If so, it sounds like your bike is suffering from carb icing. I know this because Tyler kno… I mean, my old 97 Duck M600 used to do the same thing. I ride year round and I only ever had issues in the Melb winters.

The solution to me was to drop to a lower octane fuel in winter and add Silkolene FST Pro (google it, great stuff!) to the fuel tank at fill up time. That solved it completely. Sucks that I had to do it every winter but it was the only way to keep it riding smoothly. Do some research into that.

Now I have an EFI Monster 696 and of course that solves the problem permanently :)
