Hi Richard. How would you compare your Xen SSD VPS and KVM SSD VPS products, assuming one does not need HVM? I noticed for the same price point, KVM SSD VPS has more memory and sometimes more disk space. However in the description of Xen SSD VPS you have

… Xen Virtualisation platforms for very highly responsive VPS …

    verses KVM SSD VPS

… KVM Virtualisation platforms for responsive VPS …

Does that mean a $15 Xen VPS would be "faster" than a $15 KVM VPS (in terms of CPU scheduling I guess), despite having only 1/2 the memory?

      Hi Scott,

In general (lots of 'hand waving' here) and in real live production public cloud environments, Xen is faster for memory access, or more to the point, Xen is more consistent in terms of memory I/O performance. This is due to the nature of Xen Virtualisation that enforces "dedicated RAM" for the VPS, whereas KVM (by its nature) doesn't.

So again, in general, the Xen SSD VPS Plans are geared for a focus on performance, whereas the KVM SSD VPS Plans aim for a "happy medium" wrt price and performance.

      Regards,
      Richard.

        Richard,

What virtualisation type has been used for XEN VPS - XEN PV or XEN HVM?

        • Hi Vagabond,

It's PV by default, we do have an Add-on option if you require Xen HVM though.

In general though nowadays unless you really need Xen's HVM, we just recommend KVM for the equivalent (for most purposes) of HVM.

          Regards,
          Richard.

Our VPS on NP, is still running strong

Does this discount apply for customers switching plans?

I am currently on a cpanel plan, would it be a pain to switch to something with an SSD and more cpu grunt?

      Hi Kogi,

We can do something for you if you want to upgrade your existing VPS Plan re: incorporating this Coupon's discount in that, so please email our Admin email address & we can progress this for you.

      Thanks and regards,
      Richard.
