Cheaper high end cosmetics

Hi all

Unfortunately I am hopelessly addicted to expensive cosmetics. Up until now I had been sourcing from the USA but our dollar is so low now that it doesn't really work out cheaper in most cases!

Strawberrynet has sent me fakes before so I'm not going back there.

Any other ideas?

It depends, what brands do you like? I've ordered over 30 times from strawberrynet, never received fakes. Sorry to hear about that. Anyway, Estee Lauder is quite reasonably priced here in Australian departmental stores.

Otherwise you can try Beautybay (uk website), I got my Naked Palettes from there, free shipping over $20aud. http://www.beautybay.com

I got NARS from this website for the past 8 years. http://www.kissandmakeupny.com

    • Thanks, I'll check out those sites! I like Nars, Mac, Urban Decay, Hourglass, Dior, and others here and there.

The fake was Mac lipstick (there was a lot of it at one point) and possibly Chanel perfume but not certain on that. I guess I shouldn't totally exclude the idea of shopping there, I did get a lot of good stuff.

I haven't shopped in our dept stores for quite some time, pleased to hear EL is reasonable.

      Appreciate your response!

    • Befriend someone who works for EL and/or Dior and access their staff sales.
      CHEAPPPPP.

      • … any Ozbargainers work there and want to share their discount? :)

        • I have access to the EL corporate store Australia wide and they have sales intermittently.
It's a physical store not online.

If you live in Sydney we can meet up.
Sorry but only if you're female. I don't want to meet up with a random male.
          (I'm a young female).

        • @Lemonade:

Do they have sales in SA? Are all the sales in Sydney?
I sort of want to know what kind of prices you get, but at the same time I dont because I will probably hate you!

        • @JLove:

Sorry I don't know about SA. Perhaps try a google search.

Honestly, I've never been to the sales. I usually give the passes to my friends (the member has a permanent card) and for sales EL either
          a) posts you a sales notice and you take your permanent card
          OR
          b) post you the sales notice AND 4 paper tickets for attending the sale (the last time people put their paper cards for sale on ebay).

My friends have LOVED the sales and bought lots. I can't comment on prices but obviously they were good relative to internet stores.

I don't wear EL brands so I'm very unhelpful re normal trading prices. ALL I have bought there were EL lip glosses which were effectively the same as strawberrynet prices (but guaranteed authenticity, immediate usage, testers etc).

        • @Lemonade: what a generous offer, thankyou! Unfortunately although I'm also a young female, I'm in brisbane so it won't work, but I appreciate the offer.

        • @Chik5555:

          My pleasure.
When I receive my next sales vouchers I will post one to you if it will be valid for Brisbane.
I'll PM you when the time comes.

        • @Lemonade: that would be fantastic, thanks!

        • @Lemonade: Hi Lemonade: could i also get an extra ticket for EL sales from you too? Thank you so much in advance…

        • @metadata:

What state do you live in?

        • @Lemonade:
Hi lemonade, i live in Sydney.. thank u

Don't buy the used ones. Except for eyeshadow and powdered products, which can be sterilised when surface sprayed with ethanol. You can easily buy some good unused branded items that aren't sold in Aus, only difference is that they may not have all the packaging and boxes.

I am wary of discount/grey market import sites because I don't want to be stuck with fakes.

    • How can you be certain that people aren't putting up fakes/grey imports for swaps (intentional or not)?

      • They include photo albums like this: http://imgur.com/a/arYGr
Where you can compare them to official photo albums by the company to check if the packaging matches and all the labels and text are in the right place with the right size font. You can even ask the seller for zoomed in photos from every angle to make sure.

If it's a fake after all that, open a Paypal dispute and get the seller banned from the forum.

Most of the users of the forum are hardcore beauty hobbyists with access to Sephora and Ulta in North America, and are aware that grey market and fake products can have harmful chemicals banned in the first world. I seriously doubt that they would be passing fakes without other users noticing and calling them out.

    • I shall check it out! Cheers

    • How did I not know about this, this is great, thanks

  • Great! I will check out those websites. I will try to buy something from uk website and will continue to buy if the first purchase is done perfectly. Thanks!

Just wanted to mention that I recently did order something from strawberrynet (was offered a 'we miss you' discount) and even though I paid in AUD I was charged an international transaction fee!
