Combine today's FRENZY code with the current online only prices for several Logitech Universal remotes. This is the cheapest I have seen these, even with all the recent DS and Ebay sales. [edit: well almost, thanks bxpressiv!]

Seems to be Click & Collect only, so good luck to all interested in finding at your local DS stores!

Pick up either the Ultimate One or the Touch in conjunction with the Smart Universal Control to essentially get yourself a Harmony Ultimate for <$200!

Was $5 less last weekend when they had a $25 off +$99, but still good for those who missed out. I could not live without a hub for each of my TVs.

  • I don't think the code works with remotes already on special. Just tested it on the Harmony Touch and got bubkis.

    • I just tested the Touch and appears to be working… have you already used a FRENZY code previously? You need to log out and checkout as guest if that is the case.

    • You need to be logged in for the code to work. Just tried it myself.

      • Tried it again. Doesn't work when I'm logged in, but works when I'm logged out. Weird…

        • None left at my local stores anyway, dang it.

Note, it looks like they are trying to shift old stock (the touch has been dead for years). They have a new set of devices (eg the Logitech Harmony Home Control) that include home automation type functions - and it seems that there is no effective update path from these remotes to the new standard (despite them being VERY similar).

So far those 'Home' units haven't turned up in Oz, so maybe they are due soon?

No stock nearby me anyway, and I've a Harmony One with a swelling battery to replace…

Still, if all you want to control is AV equipment this is a good deal.

      • True, but I thought I'd let people know the results of my research, looking to potentially buy.

You can see how control of those wifi mains switches integrated with the AV stuff could be useful. Leave all the stuff turned off (not in power hungry standby) till you actually need it - integrating the turning on of the power with the script to setup the devices etc. Hell, you could even dim the lights.

Just a pity Logitech having dished up the update for the old devices.

        • From here:
          http://www.cnet.com/news/new-logitech-harmony-remotes/
It sounds like there will be a paid update for the harmony remotes.
"Logitech reps told me that current owners of the Harmony Hub, Harmony Ultimate, Logitech Harmony Smart Control and Logitech Harmony Smart Keyboard will be able to upgrade their software to include the new home control capabilities. The upgrade will cost $1.99 within the first 60 days of upgrade availability, and $19.99 for customers who want to update their devices following that period."

        • @masuta:

Yeah, if you look at the link I gave above you'll see that they were saying that last September. However we're now at April, and still no upgrade - much to the later respondents annoyance.

Safest to assume it's never happening.

        • @sane: I wouldn't bank on it happening, but as you previously noted, these haven't hit Australia yet either so they could just be moving slowly.

Yes, I think you are probably right in regard to these been run out stock, given how often these have been on special lately. The Home Control has been out in the USA since Oct last year, but no sign or mention of it locally, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it launch here soon.

While I prefer the location of the play/pause/stop buttons on the newer Home Control (http://www.cnet.com/products/logitech-harmony-home-control/), I wasn't prepared to wait, so at these prices I leap in. If you have the various compatible home automation light globes, thermostats, etc. it might be worth waiting, but then you'll also probably be looking at prices closer to RRP when launched (~$170?).

  • Great.. but damn you DSE when I bought a smart control for $99 a couple of weeks ago.

As far as the remote goes, got the smart control to upgrade my Touch, and its been great. No more missed IR commands anymore.
If you get a smart control definitely get a Touch or Ultimate One to go with it, unless you really don't need extra commands on the touchscreen.

(For those that are wondering, the difference between the Touch and Ultimate One is the UO LCD gets a motion sensor to wake it as well as vibration feedback. I believe the remote itself has been redesigned a little to make it a bit better in the hand.)

I can live without the motion sensor, touch feedback would be good at times but not that big a deal, and the Touch remote is a little hard to use if you just want to press a button while its still on the table or couch (rolls around a bit) The UO shape looks like might fix that, but can't say for sure.

    • Thanks for the mini-review. How do you wake the Touch if no motion sensor?

      • Touching the screen or any button wakes it.

    • Does the ultimate one have Rf capabilities like the touch does when paired with a hub?

      • Yes, both are IR only on their own, but when paired with the hub then have the Rf capability.

        • Yeah I have the touch, but would like the motion sensor and wasn't sure if the UO had the RF chip like the touch does. Thanks for confirming.
