I am travelling to Melbourne this weekend for the first time and I will like to know of any places worth to visit there? any advice will be greatly appreciated :)
Also, does anyone know what is the cheapest way to get to the cbd from Avalon airport, I am regretting a bit choosing the cheapest airfares but observing higher transportation fees to get to the CBD :(, Thanks again!

Thanks Drew22, Yeah i think will probably book the return journey, but I am afraid I may book and miss the bus as I only have 20 minutes to catch it after arriving to the airport. Taxi is pricey as usual :( , next time I will book to the other airport.
Any recommendations for places to visit there? :) Much appreciated your advice, thanks again! There are only 5 flights a day coming into Avalon from a single airline.
I doubt that there will be any delay in getting from the plane to the bus.
There is lots to see and do around Melbourne, just depends on what you're interested in.
If you have the time and good weather hire a car and drive along the great ocean road otherwise typical melbournian things to do would be to explore the city (especially all the hidden alleyways and graffiti ones like Hosier lane), try to see a footy match at the MCG if you're interested in that, walk along south bank, take a look at fed square and determine for yourself if it looks like rubbish or a piece of artwork! You can head into Brunswick/Fitzroy area which is full of hipsters and awesome cafes or into St Kilda where there's a beach, Luna park and some decent restaurants. There's plenty to keep you busy :)
There is a coach bus that runs from Avalon to the CBD which is $42 for a return journey.

The only other way would be a taxi which will probably cost well over $100 each way. The airport is nearly 60km from Melbourne and the taxi rate is $1.61 per km.
I've personally booked flights out of Avalon in the past by mistake, and just booked another flight out of Melbourne because it is too inconvenient and far away.
