  • Would Mates Rate program from DS work with this?
They apparently give $10 discount on your first purchase over $50. Not sure whether you can join it for free….

    • +1

I dont see why it would not work.

Yes, it is a $10 voucher on your next online purchase and it is free. Just ask in store to get registered.

  • Great deal. Should I buy another I wonder… looking forward to upgrade to the Pebble Time.

  • +5

These have been as low as $74. I'd wait a few hours before buying to see whether any codes are released later on in the day.

  • +9

These are a good enough price to dip your toes in the smartwatch category.

Just be aware the 3rd generation Pebble is about a month away from release, and it has a colour screen! (reminds me of Malibu Stacey's hat)

Disclaimer - I own one of these, and have signed up for one of the newies, and am so glad I bought this (for $150 or so a year ago). It has dramatically changed (increased convenience) of the use of my smartphone

    • I just wonder how much the colour screen will affect battery life though. The reason I like my Pebble above other smart watches is I only need to charge it once a week.

      • +2

According to the specs, the battery life will be the same (1 week approx) as the colour screen is colour E-Paper.

        • +1

expected (new) Pebble Time battery life = 7 days, and
expected (new) Pebble Time Steel battery life = 10 days
          according to Pebble

  • I've been waiting for a pebble steel to drop in price, I've bought one of these and I'll grab a pebble time steel when it's out if I like this this.

    • The new "Pebble Time Steel" with colour screen will be out around August and looks awesome.
Though, if you don't yet have a pebble yet, I would grab this while you are waiting.

  • +15

    At $99 it's hardly a steel

  • Got one before and it was an awful experience, screen became gibberish, not even a week usage, return it less than a week.

same thing (minorly) happened to mine after 12 months, and I have to say I have never experienced better customer service than from this company. Two emails - the first enquiry and second with details was all that was required for a new unit to be shipped to me (no charge) from the US.

Made me fall in love with this company!

      • @shmahoo - same experience here, except only after 3 months.

      • same thing with my first kindle. i think e-ink screens are prone to fail more than lcd screens

        • The screens used in the Pebble is not e-Ink. It's a Sharp branded memory LCD, which is completely different from a e-reader display.

          http://au.mouser.com/new/Sharpsma/sharpmemorylcd/

        • @scrimshaw: I swear they advertise it as e-ink…did I imagine that? Come to think of it, it is much too fast for e-ink

        • @scrimshaw: How is it different? Practically it seems to be almost exactly the same

        • +2

It's marketing puffery, to quote iFixit:

          https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Pebble+Teardown/13319#s45410

While there is no exact definition for what makes a display technology e-paper, it essentially entails paper-like readability in ambient light and very low power draw. The Pebble makes use of a new Sharp Memory LCD that puts it in the realm of e-ink and e-paper.

If you compare a Kindle display against the Memory LCD display, the Kindle…

Doesn't require power to display an image on screen
Displays different shades of gray (8 or 16? unsure of technology progress)
Has to re-draw to refresh the image, making video impossible.

The Sharp memory LCD in Pebble version 1

Redraws much faster, making games and video feed possible
Is strictly black / white only, no shades of gray
Requires very low power consumption to display an image.

The upcoming New Pebble Time has colour, most likely also a memory LCD display.

    Dat bezel

    • tbh i never noticed the bezel on mine until i read someone complain about the new ones also having a big bezel. ipads got big bezels but nobody seems to give a shait

  • +1

For anyone wanting a 'cheaper' unit, I've got a brand new one not opened in box as I RMA'd my old unit but then purchased a Steel anyway. I'd be happy with $70 for it. If this isn't allowed, please delete/yell at me.

    • So this post is no longer a bargain now? Should we start down voting?

    • I yelled at you, but I only yell at the people I like and give positive votes to!

    • Ha, I RMA'd mine cause a button fell off, but ended up selling the new one and am still using the button-less one. Doesn't affect functionality or waterproofing.

    • I DONT KNOW WHY WE ARE YELLING.

  • If you go to the pebble website, it states $99 and free shipping to Australia.

    https://getpebble.com/shop

They also are selling white ones.

    • USD$99..?

    • +1

It was $89 about two days ago (this $10 discount lasted 24 hours). And yes, after converting to AUD it's about $130, which is not a bargain.

  • For some reason dat bezel killed it for me.

Im always using my phone but if it had some sporty features I would definitely look into it

The Pebble is actually a pretty solid entry level activity tracker. It has an accelerometer built in and Misfit make an app for it that is very good – it's able to tracks steps, distance and your sleeping patterns. Some friends use a Fitbit and I've found that my Pebble does pretty much the same thing, but with the bonus of a screen so you can see your progress across the day/week without having to pull out your phone.

      • Except I am not crash hot or the Misfit app as it doesn't sync to your android phone (at least not the last time I checked). I find a combination of the Up watch face and Sleep as Android to work better.

        • Bummer. I've never had any problems syncing to the Misfit app on my iPhone. I would have thought Android would have less issues, since Android is generally a lot more Pebble-friendly.

        • @brayhouse: AFAIK they haven't even made the feature, at least it wasn't out when I checked last

      • Ok its starting to sound interesting.
My wife has the charge hr and I think that is perfect design… with screen

  • i rather wait for the upcoming pebble time, its colour screen but with the same 7 days battery life.

  • Seems the price for the Moto 360 has been slashed due to the release of the Apple Watch….

Now only US$187 Shipped from Amazon…!!!

  • Needs moar OzBargain deal pusher

  • I got mine on 6th December last year at DSE Click & Collect for $69 (Special price $89 and 20$ discount voucher). It works extremely well with my LG G3 and BlackBerry Q5. I also go swimming and bike commuting almost every day and the watch never fails me a single day. Just hope it will last for years!
