Nope, they do not have to honor pricing errors.

    • +3

What law states orders placed for incorrectly priced items must be honoured?

      http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2013/03/do-retailers-have-to-ho…
"The short answer, for the tl;dr crowd is that no, it's not actually obliged to honour an advertised price if it is in error."

      • +4

Never thought this day would come where Lifehacker is referenced in law…lol.

    • +3

Blind leading the blind over here folks. Invitation to treat. Look it up before you keep embarassing yourself.

    • +2

"but they have to honor" and "yes it is up to the workplace"

      So which is it?

We all know it's the latter, which makes the former void.

    • +1

You're referring to the voluntary scanning code of practice for supermarkets, which does not cover David Jones.

  • Refunded

  • The pricing error caused irony amongst would-be shoppers.

I imagined this is how it went down:

DJ online staff: "hey boss, what price should I put this Tefal on?"

    Boss: "one-ninety"

DJ online staff: "hmm one-ninety higher than original price. Must be $1.90" types away

On the topic of ironing, genuine question:

Why is Pingu's dad is always ironing when none of them wears clothes?

    • They are actually all humans in penguin costumes. And that is what Pingu's dad is always ironing.

      • +1

Thanks for um clearing that up. I thought they were clay penguins and was always wondering why people weren't shooting at them like they shoot at clay pigeons.

Lol I was shocked when I walked away with it the counter lady said he also got 10 cent change with that transaction lol

        • @Flash80:

I've gotta say that although I have not ironed anything in over 10 years, that is the best bargain I've seen here, well done.

Almost bargain enough to start ironing my clothes again!!

This deal fell flat for most

    • +3

Yeah, a lot of people steamed, I bet. I expect DJs to cop a spray.

      • you mean steaming mad they missed out.

      • +2

        c'mon, who downvotes a pun ?

        • Probably the same person who down voted you, haha.

  • -5

It's amazing that DJ's got so exercised over amounts that must be small change to them.

I'm guessing there must be around 100 irons sold at $168 less than the original price ?

    So, total loss to DJ's would have been $168 x 100 = $16,800.

For the year 2013, DJ's annual profit was $101,600,000 or 6,050 times the loss from the sale of cheap irons.

If they had honoured the deal, they would have created 100 satisfied customers … instead they now have 100 upset people who think DJ's don't honour their word … and all for a measly $16,800.

    • +13

100 cheap ozbargainers who wouldn't go back unless there's another big sale or pricing error. Who also probably have cheap friends they'll tell all about. So it wouldn't really matter

    • +2

      So, total loss to DJ's would have been $168 x 100 = $16,800.

If the CEO of David Jones was the one who made the typo, then sure, he could probably wipe the $16.8k easily with his whatever-discretionary fund.

But it's not CEOs who are making these mistakes - it's low-level staff who make these mistakes. If you were a manager at David Jones, would you be happy that one of your staff members just lost your company $16,800? Will it look good in your records when higher-level managers call you in for your performance review?

All this fuss over an iron? looked at the photo and thought it was a JET SKI!

    • Better call it a PWC (personal watercraft), to avoid antagonising Yamaha owners :p

PS, I thought the same - Jet Ski, not WaveRunner.

      • +1

        Antagonised.

        *Jetski = Kawasaki

        • I'd rather have a Japanese Steamboat.

        • err exactly…

  • just checking my FB and found THIS

    • Wouldn't that just be targeted advertising from looking at it previously on the DJ's website?

    • +2

Kind of explains where the $1.90 price came from…

$109 similar to $1.90 … (for those that need extra help)

I ordered one yesterday and also received and order complete email with invoice. Now I get a call from David jones Indooropilly they say sorry we can cannot honour that price. And we are out of stock. I said I'm happy to wait for stick but the manage said she cannot honour the price at the most she can offer me 30% off. Their customer relations officer is going to call me in a couple of days.
Do they still have the right to dishonour the price after I've paid for it? What are my rights? Are there any leagal terms I could use next time when I speak with them?

  • On the website it still $1.90 . How we gonna get it? I need an new iron :(

  • +1

I got his mail From Sydney store-

"Sorry to inform you that the iron that you have ordered is not available as it has been sent back to the company . we do apologise that it allowed to shop as it has been taken out of the system. If you could ring us today on 92665802 for a refund."
    Thank you customer service

So technically they are saying it is not a pricing error?????

    • Same here. Got an email saying the item is out of stock.

      • How to avoid the refund and get the press??? Of course we all are Ozbargainers
