wow, that's cheap. maybe 2nd gen is coming? i was waiting for huawei's watch or 360 2nd gen

I like the watch, I think it looks slick. I am not going to bite on a smartwatch just yet, though.

    • I don't think you are meant to bite on them.
      Maybe this

Lol it's a dog toy, not a dildo (though I suppose if one tried hard enough…)

        • I'd hate to look through your browser history, mate.

  • Does it do iOS?

      • I doubt Apple would ever approve it as it competes with its own product

        • -1

google maps competes with its own product

        • -1

          @ideasman:

Hence why you won't find it installed on an iPhone unless self installed

        • -1

@digitalane: The point is that you can install it if you want.

        • @cheng2008: This is a rather silly comparison. Apple has little incentive, especially financially, for you to use their maps app to google maps. With the smart watch there is

        • @rapoot6: How do you explain that Pebble is compatible with iOS, even though it competes with the Apple watch?

        • @cheng2008: Good point! There is still some hope then :)

Thats so tempting, someone give me strength to hold out for 2nd gen :(((

Just tell yourself you don't want the flat tyre look

    • im with you bro
been holding for the last few offers

  • +3

I've just never been able to look past the fact the screen doesn't extend to the bottom of the frame. That would haunt me.

Less noticeable with black watch faces (hence their use in promotional pics), not so with other colours…..

pretty much the only reason I'm holding out for the next version, I hope it doesn't have that!

    • +3

      Weird. Makes it look broken.

      • +1

I'd bet my bottom dollar on V2 having a fully round screen.

I'd rather spend a little extra not live with the regret.

    • though the classic round face looks so much better than the rectangular iwatch

    • i use mine everyday

i completely forgot about the flat bottom until you mentioned it just now

      Thats how superficial it is

Plus i use a black watchface so it blends in anyway

      • i completely forgot about the flat bottom until you mentioned it just now

        Sorry :/

  • I think the OP should amend the 'cheapest ever' claim.

  • Does it have GPS & HRM?

    • -1

      no…..

    • Has heart rate

    • Those who are considering buying this (or any other smartwatch) for HRM will be disappointed with the HRM accruacy.

      • if you use the standard band it will stress the plastic backing at the required tightness for it to work properly….

  • +2

There appear to be two major complaints.
—-1) battery life. It lasts only about 10hr for time watching. significantly less hrs if you use apps
—-2) dead space on the bottom of screen. The watch is round. But the SCREEN is not!

I'd better keep away from moto 360.

  • +1

Is Samsung Gear the only smart watch that has GPS & HRM?
I wouldn't count fitness watches, like TomTom Runner Cardio, as a smart watch.

  • Prices are crashing because pebble time is coming out

    • This doesn't make sense - the new Pebble will cost more, especially in Australia and looks a lot flimsier than the 360. Having said that I wouldn't recommend the current Moto either.

  • +2

I'd spend an extra $30 or so for the Sony Smart Watch 3. Here's why:

    • the battery life is heaps better easily lasts 1+ day even when using apps
    • uses a standard micro-usb cable for charging, so you could easily charge it at home, at work on in the car
    • has built-in GPS, NFC and Wi-Fi (I think the Moto has Wi-Fi too), so you won't have to upgrade the watch when Android Wear rolls out support for these features (e.g. Wi-Fi support is already on its way)
    • comes with a practical silicon wrist strap as standard, which means IP68 waterproof support out of the box, unlike the Moto 360 that only comes with a leather strap.
    • If the designer look is important, it also comes in the more expensive steel wrist strap version, which is arguably the best looking Android Wear device right now
    • has a large 1.6" screen that's higher resolution than the Moto (320x320 vs 320x290)
    • Does it have HRM?

      • No it doesn't, and I commented on the HRM capability in smartwatches in a separate comment above.

Basically, the HRM in the Moto will only work well if you hold perfectly still and your arm is not wet or sweaty.

Also, running, working out or otherwise sweating wouldn't be great for the leather strap in the Moto.

If HRM is a deal breaker, I would recommend a dedicated sports watch rather than a smartwatch.

        • A review of the MS Band stated it was pretty accurate

        • @yoyomablue:

Does it mention whether they had to keep perfectly still or whether it was tested during vigorous exercise?

        • It depends on device and implementation:
          http://vandrico.com/wearables/device/mio-alpha-2-0
          Apparently "99 percent accurate…while running 14.4mhp"

Plus, the Sony is a pretty start out watch… Don't rly mean in a good way

To me a round watch just feels natural, call me old fashioned

        • @plague69:

Here's a direct comparison between the Sony and the Moto from Ausdroid back in November.

They are saying that the Sony is a "clear winner".

Here's a little excerpt talking about the Moto 360 first:

"Voice recognition is slow. Reading notifications on the round screen is difficult. Swiping gestures are inconsistent because the round screen makes those sensors less sensitive. It just feels like a watch with some smart features, rather than a true smart watch.

The Smartwatch 3 addresses ALL of these concerns, and it doesn’t look too shabby either. It nails voice recognition. It displays notifications better (more on screen, and they’re easier to interact with). Swiping is always consistent and it never fails to react properly. It’s a true smart watch (as the name might imply) and it just does Android Wear properly."

        • @elektron: Well, nothing is perfect. I was just commenting on how it looks. That second image in my post made me cringe…

Comes down to specs or looks. Moto 360 isn't a 10/10 in looks, but I think judging by the pictures of real life use, the moto looks more like a watch than an oversized fitness band

        • @plague69: Besides the specs and the looks there's also real life performance and there's where the Sony shines. For example, I can confirm that the voice recognition is near-perfect (and fast) even with a cheap Chinese phone. After all, Sony also make microphones.

The Smartwatch 3 looks better in real life than it does on that photo - I've received compliments on mine, even though I think it's rather understated. And I have seen some paparazzi snaps of beautiful celebrities that have made me cringe too :)

As I said in a previous post, Sony gives you an option of getting the metal version (which is really just a different wrist band), which looks fantastic although you pay extra for it.

  • do smart watches mean us uni students will be forced to take our watches off at exams? screw you guys.

  • All of them are saying they won't ship internationally.
