  • Is the Optus SIM packs able to be activated on $2 days? Just asking as it would save me some Money as I am currently using an Optus sin for 2 doller days for data while I wait for my broadband.

Not too sure m8, hopefully someone else can answer you question :)

    • I believe so. Ask the whirlpool forum thread or search once in the archive view. I have a stack of free $10 SIMs I plan on activating on the $2/day plan.

    • It sure can I buy heaps when half price and use on $2 days so every 15 days I throw away sim and start a new one, I have a dual sim phone so I keep one permanent number for incoming calls and use the $2 days sim for outgoing calls and data.

      • Im using one atm in a optus wifi device while i waiting for my nbn installation in a few weeks.
so this is half the amount i would of spent on credit.

True OzBargainer Paul. I personally couldn't go through the hassle.

      • Paul how does that work?
These are $30 preloaded SIMS, right? So they are for the $30 month deal.
How can you use them for $2 days? Optus only let you change plans once every 35 days and you usually lose any remaining credit.

        • OK tried and it didn't work!!

I selected "ACTIVATE REPLACEMENT SIM" from the settings tab in my account.
The SIM changed over as expected BUT THE CREDIT DID NOT come!!
I had to call up and convince the people in the call centre that yes, I really had a $10 SIM pack and no I wasnt trying to trick them. Painful process.

I throw away used sim every 2 weeks and then activate a new sim with the $30 included and use the number thats on the sim i dont try to keep the same number each time.

          @paulaus:
New registration and number every time?
Wow ok. That explains it. Lot of work!

        • @paulaus: Do people ever call you??

        • @Son ofa Zombie:
As i said above i håve a dual sim phone with one permanent number to receive calls and the 2nd sim an optus half price sim on $2 days for data and to send calls and text.

  • So out of all three providers and their prepaid plans, what would be the better one?

    • +1

Depends on usage and priorities. Only you can answer the question for yourself.

You can get some amazing value if youi are frugal and canny with Telstra.
heres a link to Bruce's excellent Wiki. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/telstra_pre-paid_starter_p…

    • For my situation, it's Telstra only. 2mths on a regional jobsite. The others could be half the price, or double the data… still a waste of time & money. At/around home… any would be great.

Anyone know if you can activate the optus sim as a 3GB data sim?

When does this promotion expire? I want to use a gift card, so I will need to find a time to go into a store and pay there, can't order online unfortunately.

Edit: found the catalogue on the website: valid until 26th of April, plenty of time to get to a store.

  • couldn't see the vodafone SIMs. Is there a link to Vodafone SIMs?

  • Successfully ordered delivery. hope they won't get cancelled..

  • PICK UP IN-STORE ONLY - DELIVERY NOT AVAILABLE

Store pick up is not available for this product. Please order online to have this delivered.

    im confused.

    • Once you enter checkout it will ask you which store to pick up from :)

      • oh ok.

any idea how long it takes to get $5 ?

        • Varies dude, sometimes 5 mins, sometimes a few hours

        • +1

          @TRENT86: I just got it.
Thanks i just ordered 2 you just saved me about $35 :)

          @holden93: Happy Days :)

  • Is anyone else finding that the Telstra 3GB deals are only giving 2GB of data? Happened to me twice with the standard size SIM's.

    • +2

The 2GB of data is the default amount for prepaid mobile broadband. Telstra have discontinued their prepaid tablet broadband offer which used to be 3GB …. Perhaps it was Ozbargained? lol

    • Voda SIM would best plan for streaming
      1GB anytime +4GB weekend /no limit.

      • Note that they bounce you off after 2GB and will lock you down if you attempt to use the SIM in a broadband modem or tether.

      • This is true, observe the packaging "$450"(fone > credit) on each pack, not to be confused by its hybrid nature. Then Otherwise android\Wi-fi out to most any-platform devices.

        Notes for HD +heavy content
After you 720p movie/"session," switch radio 4G->2G-> 4G> should cancel stoppage (bypass the bouncer..ditto w power cycling)no need to sim swap.

  • Where is link for Voda sim

    • +1

They don't sell it online you have to get it in store

      • Thanks you sir Trent

I need around 1.5 gig data, 50 min local call 100 min int call per month, which one would be better

    • telstra prepaid freedom $30 plan

      • My bad, I should have mentioned that I m with telechoice $25 plan. And thought this starter pack might be cheaper..

  • which pack has the most credit for premium content? I'm so confused about the telstra freedom.

    it says "Telstra Pre-Paid Freedom
Some usage is excluded, such as calls/text to satellite numbers and premium numbers, operator assisted calls, content charges, MessageBank® retrieval, diversions, and all use overseas."

but a rep told me u can use it for premium numbers?

    • You can use it for SMS to premium numbers, but all calls to premium numbers are barred on Telstra prepaid.

Also note that it will come out of your normal recharge credit, I.e.$30 not $220 cap

  • thanks, ordered the telstra

  • Hi guys im noob to prepaid.

I want to join optus on their new my monthly $30 prepaid.

Can i buy 5 of these and use it for recharging as well?

Or is the $30 converted to calls or something?

With the my monthly if we keep recharging it we get 1.5gb of data

Any other suggestions? I use data most on my phone and call once or twice a day only

    Thanks

    • +1

Yes you can buy 5 but each pack has its own number so to keep the same number you would have to port out and then port back in each month. Or just have 2 numbers - one to call out and use data and the other to receive.

  • Is there an optus hack for using starter packs to recharge?

    i.e. like the Telstra method.

  • +4

man what an ordeal. I ordered 5 sims online, but even though it said PICKUP only it only allowed me to select Delivery.
So i select delivery and it was $0.

Then i wanted to double check with the online chat and they said i have to go pick it up from DARWIN! what a joke, I live in NSW!!!!!

    WTF

  • Would the credit work towards unlocking a Telstra phone?

  • They had some iPad 3gb Sims but weren't selling them for $15

  • No stock available anywhere convenient for me in NSW, it seems!

  • got telstra packs for 2 for $30 from highpoint. couldn't get discount as website showed as no stock :(
    Thanks OP

  • Can i buy apps from googleplay with telstra prepaid???

    • Did you know that "VJ" is short for vagina is Australia?
So I guess you must be a bit of a cun…

      (cunning fellow)

  • I picked the delivery option. Hope it works…

  • Is the $30 Telstra pre-paid mobile broadband the same thing? They ran out of the normal pre-paid sim starter packs.

  • Seems like out of stock everywhere around Melb.

  • No stock in WA, will get a refund. Don't mind, bought them slightly cheaper here;
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/190125

  • Bought 2 of the Telstra SIMs for $25, could not find any stores with stock around me, and was in such a rush at the end of the day that I accidentally ordered as delivered, despite the product page saying "pick up only". Realised my mistake the next day, but started getting invoices and delivery tracking details, so decide to wait and see if it arrived. They turned up in the post yesterday, delivered from Darwin, with expiry date in Sept 2016. Yay! So thumbs up from me!
