What's Your Favourite Brand of Honey?

I am after some good stuff :P

If anyone is able to recommend their fav brand of honey I would greatly appreciate it.

  • I like the Aldi ones.

The Aldi ones are pretty excellent for flavour and price.

I do like grab some of the specialist, small batch style ones you find when driving to random country towns though.

  • The Aldi australian honey is not bad but a bit too liquid. I find Capilano australian honey better and more dense although more expensive. Don't buy imported honey

  • Yep the Capilano with ginger in it.

  • Woolworths Gold, especially the Liguarian one…….yum yum

  • Growing up I only ever had the choice between Capilano or Capilano. So I chose Capilano.

  • Actually, I have a question (since my dad did ask me about the brand value of a honey brand, expecting an international student who've only been in Australia since grade 6 to know about the credibility of a honey brand).

Is Capilano a decent brand for honey? Have they been around for a long time? (I have no idea why my dad asked me though)

    • capilano is great. Its like the Kraft Vegemite of honey - if that makes sense.

      • So it's like a goto choice for honey, I assume?

        • It's the biggest brand, but that doesn't automatically mean it's the best quality/value. I'm no honey guru so I can't comment on how it compares to other honeys, but it's a safe bet if you're just looking for a good ol' reliable honey for the pantry.

        • @brezzo: When I said goto, I meant something like that. :S

Got cheap honey at the local market.

    • I was at a market a while ago and a friend said he likes getting fresh honey coz all the goodness is processed out of the stuff you get in supermarkets.

I don't know whether this is correct??

      • Hmm the supermarket stuff is more processed but I believe they mostly just mix stuff from different producers and they test it to aim for a consistent product. Seriously would doubt that any nutritional value would be diminished compared to buying it directly from a primary producer.

I just bought it coz it was cheaper and it supports a local guy rather than ASX companies.

Honey is a raw ingredient older than the Pyramids.

    • Is honey cheap at the market? Like market market or farmer's market? I go through a jar each month, and safeway brand is the cheapest.

  • On a regular basis, capilano is probably the best in terms of quality. Its not hella expensive but it tastes good.

If you have the opportunity, go down to the coastal towns and buy honey off people there. More expensive, but makes for good presents. (though given this is ozbargain…)

  • The cheapest. As long as it's not the dodgy stuff cut with golden syrup.

Somehow a bargain makes it taste sweeter.

  • manuka honey…. best honey

    • +4

AFAIK manuka is a type of honey, rather than a brand.

  • I buy organic raw honey. Most likely the best you can get. Not cheap though. AboutLife shop sells that.

If you can get honey direct from a beekeeper it will (bee) less likely to be messed with or tainted by sugar or watered down. I buy mine by the bucket at $5 per kg from the guy who supplies the people who sell it at markets in small tubs. We don't even use sugar at home any more. Tastes slightly different each time though, depending on where his hives are located as to what type of flowers his bees have been feeding on (Macadamia, Teatree, Blue/Box gum etc).

    • Any chance you're willing to share where you met him? :P

  • Golden Nectar Real Leatherwood Honey — pricey but still worth it, so good!

  • Miellerie Tasmanian Honey: Raw, unheated, unprocessed.

It's pricey but worth it IMO.

  • Capilano's Manuka 15+ is the smoothest Manuka I've tasted. But my favourite brand of honey has to be Beechworth Honey. They do tours of their big store in Beechworth (just outside of Albury Wodonga, near the NSW /VIC border) and every variety I've tried is delicious.

  • the beechwood (free sample the other day) is the best, good honey and free!!
