Ditch LG Nexus for Samsung?

Help! I need help in deciding my next phone.
Love my Nexus, but this is my second one (after HN gave a new one during warranty). Now this one too is looking to die…
My whole family is with Apple, and I do own iPad and MacBook, but for mobile I prefer android.
We also have LG smart tv which is why I am contemplating the G3…..
But there had been huge positive feedback with Samsung, esp the S6…..
So my dear knowledgeable Ozbargainer, please help!
Many thanks.

depends on how you look at it… what do you look for in a mobile? remember the S6 does not have expandable memory with the micro sd slot being taken out… as such if you like to keep videos and music on your device, storage may become an issue (also need to look at the smallest capacity S6 you can get and at what price). I see this as a major issue since I like to put FLACs on my devices for travelling purposes.

You are also not able to access the battery, so if the batter dies (though rare), you will need to replace the entire phone which may be annoying if you were just out of warranty (2 year warranty for Samsung mobiles right?). My phone has this issue so I shouldn't really knock it… but it can be a problem.

I half expect the S6 to be around $700-800 mark for the lowest capacity so there may be other phone that are cheaper whilst sporting similar if not the same specs.

    Just my 2c…

    • What I don't do and don't need: games and video. Mainly for surfing, emails, whatsapp, FB and pictures. Hence like big screen.
When I bought outright, I also did extended warranty.

      • The expandable battery, is it important? Doesn't seem to bother iPhone users…

        • The expandable battery, is it important?

Not really, especially to you as you use a nexus phone at the moment.

        • Some people carry extra battery for added battery life… you can carry a portable charger but they tend to be larger then the battery…

From reviews, the S6 does seem to be the best phone. Cons would be average battery life, no microsd slot and non-removable battery.

I also have a macbook and ipad, and have my previous phones were Nexus 4, 5, Note 3, and now Note 4. The Note 5 will be my next choice as of now.

No, try Moto X 2nd gen or get the G3.

I'd wait for the LG G4. It's coming sooooooon. Don't know how soon. However it's a direct contender with the S6 and it's worth considering if you are not into a phone with a non-removable batt.

For the moment I'd go with something cheap, like the $49 dollar Huawei Y550 (4G LTE, Qualcomm quad core). It's surprising good. For a phone that costs less than $50 dollars it has a lot going for it, and you can even unlock the device for $2.50 AUD.

No guarantee the G4 will have a removable battery. Since he has been using a Nexus, it's likely that is a non-issue for him anyway. It is announced on April 28th; who knows how long it will take to be available.

  • Wow, G4 already… Thanks will have a look.

    • G4 will be more expensive than G3. Do I really need a G4? Considering Telstra plan $65, and hopefully with our home bundle I can get some discount?

    LG Nexus…4 or 5?

  • Just buy a Moto G 2nd gen for $200! Best kept secret of the android world!
