Apple Store will usually do price match
Yes Apple Store will pricematch, granted its on their website.
Had a bad experience in the Apple Store about a month ago when they refused a price match jb on 15inch MacBook. It was just when they increased the prices and JB hadn't yet… Appparently there system won't let them if it's more than 15%. Went next door to Myer who matched it… Anyone else had trouble with Apple price matching?
@Bec-a: Last month Apple Store Bondi Junction NSW refused to price match OW Iphone 6 plus 128GB $1199. The manager said yes but when the genius girl tried to to the pricematch the system would not accept it, she spoke to the manager again and the only thing they could do for me is give me $50 store credit after I paid the full price $1249.
Last year the same store had no troubles pricematching BigW's Ipad Air price
I did try once at Apple Store to match Myer Ipad air2 price ($50 off). Got a disappointed feedback.
@Bec-a:
I was told that Apple tend to do only up to 10%.
@pinchies:
same
Apple does not price match anything over 10%, its just policy and is non-negotiable to the point that yes, its automatically barred the POS system.
@ptenkae: yeah It seems that way now. Years ago I had someone much a price on iPad case. Huge difference in price but He got a code to override the system. Was hoping they'd do the same for a MacBook, clearly not :(
I don't understand why the consumer doesn't just reward the rest ailed with their business, instead of searching for a price match.
I can understand a price beat, but not the hassle of asking another retailer for a discount, just to pay the same amount.
Sometimes its just that the consumer cannot get access to a local store, or no stock at the said store.
…but if there's no stock at the store; then price match is void. They're basically giving you the finger with that policy. "Pay our price or f*** off!"
Yea true, some retailers are not near by. So if there is no jb close, I can understand asking another shop closer to match it.
Those doing the price match don't necessarily know that stock has run out locally, or will still price match to a store that is further away that has stock e.g. Your local Target has run out of stock, but the one a couple of suburbs away still has it, so your local Officeworks will price match, saving you the trouble of a drive, petrol etc.
Also, you can use your Discounted Wish Gift Cards at Dick Smith.. so potentially another 5% saving.
cause I bought a crap load of ds gift cards from Coles… and ever since they have not had a 10% off sale!!
Anyone know if they will have stock of the new 12' MacBook?
hope so, want to get one over weekend
I think it's late April. Not in time for this deal.
Also, why do you want to get the 12"? Seems pretty over priced for it's specs?
I think the power will be enough for me. I want a Retina display MacBook, and this one is a lot more portable than the MacBook Pro.
Yea I like the idea of an ultra portable retina. Personally, the power, portability and battery life of the 13" Macbook Air is king, but the Screen is the biggest let down.
The 12" looks to solve the screen issue, but unfortunately, it has skimped out on power and necessary ports…. I know everything should be Wireless - but the rest of my computing environment has not yet caught up or it's simply to expensive to upgrade now. I'm glad Apple will be pushing consumers to go Wireless, it means the wireless peripheral world will become cheaper.
It's launching on the 10th April in the US and here I think!?
Yep it's available tomorrow at Apple
Twelve foot Macbook? Phwoar.
More like MacRoad
I just called my local store and they said they have no idea until the shipment arrives. He said it might be this afternoon, tomorrow, or next week, but they don't know what is in the shipment beforehand.
And this time no extra 5% off at Officeworks as they don't have any instore for what I want. Mac Mini.
Offiecworks normally adjusts prices as well.
Edu discount is usually around 11%. Just abduct a highschool kid for 20 minutes.
No it's not
It's always a fair bit less than 10%. I'm a student and I always wait for the JB/DSE deals
Education discount for base model Macbook Air 13" $1329 where as JB sells it for $1258 with 10% do the math
A university may have an agreement with Apple to provide a further discount on top of the standard education discount, to buy directly from the online Apple Store.
The base model MBA 13" with the further discount is $1,276 from my uni, so its roughly a 9% discount (3-4% extra from the standard education discount).
JB with 10% may be a little cheaper, but at least I don't have to wait for a retailer to offer a discount.
It was about ~6 last time I looked, not worth it.
Used to have crazy start of school year edu deals (Free iPod, printer and Itunes card worth about $400!) but those are long gone.
Was in the market for a MacBook Pro this weekend and was going to try get JB Hifi to price match this week's GroupOn offer, no need now :-)

does Myer price match?
Short answer: yes
Long answer: only if it's above they're profitability line or in their words "no, if its below cost" YMMV depending on staff and management that are working
thanks.
I've got a stack of Myer vouchers and waiting for a good price match to purchase a Macbook Pro from there.
If they won't price match, hopefully they do, scope out the bags/sleeves/protective covers and ask them to throw one in to seal the deal and ask anyway if they do match, i did it for a froend a while back, they were afraid to ask, saved them the 10% plus $60 cover thrown in but it all depends on staffp
Tried getting Myer to price match Officeworks but they gave me the proverbial finger.
No surprises then, they're like that they'll do it when it suits them. They were good when they first started matching but soon became worse the officeworks trying to get out of it wherever possible
@sigh: yeah depends on the worker.. Myer matched for me and took off over $500 on a MacBook. Gotta find someone in a good mood!
wow. a measly 10%
can i stack education discount on top of this?
Yeah I also want too know this. Apparently JB and Officeworks have been known to price match the education duscount. Anyone confirm this?
They do pricematch the education discount.
How do you go about doing this? Printing off the price from Apple.com? Do you tell them it's the education discount? Or do you sneakily get it through as an Apple price?
@JackFrost: I went in and just asked them to match the education price.
They will not let the education price stack with this, though.
@Gecko: cheers I will give that a go when I'm looking to buy my new Mac. Will they beat it or just match it?
I did somehow manage to get the guy to beat it.. by $4.
Took the Macbook Air 11" to $1175 if it meant I'd buy it right then and there. Took a bit of umming and ahhing on my part to get him to go that low though.
@Gecko: yeah that's cool
The education discount isn't a percentage discount. It's different per computer.
JB Hi-Fi isn't going to give you 10% off the education price. That would be way too cheap for them to do.
OP here.
can confirm, didnt give it to me.
its alright, still decent though.
I got the Macbook Air 11" 2 days ago with the education pricing for $1175.
Then this comes up.
Went into Townsville Domain JB Hifi and they were excellent, were happy to refund the difference. Big +1 to JB!
I got a rMBP 13" 128GB price matched at officeworks over the phone. They gave the extra 5% off as well.
Was that the 2015 model, because I can't find it anywhere to pickup?
Yes it was. That's why I ordered over the phone. You can choose to collect from any store for free.
Called OW for rMBP 13" 256GB and they price matched JB's price but included delivery cost, bringing the total over JB's price. I asked why include delivery cost I want to pickup and the lady said they need to deliver it to the store…
I'm looking for Mac Mini. is Mac Mini 1.4Ghz good? I read the review that the memory is not upgradeable.
No its not, the base model is only useable if you to the SSD upgrade.
That fact that they release a NEW computer in 2015 without a SSD is insulting.
See no reason to buy this. If it's just going to live under your TV $800+ (once you upgrade ram + SSD) that buys a decent laptop that's a lot more versatile.
Or build a lil' m-itx box.
Just bought the 13 inch macbook air from officeworks with the 5% price beat. Took it down to 1195ish. Happy with that.
Same got extra 5% over the phone!
I went into the South Melbourne store, they had the new one in stock.
damn! i forgot about that!
Better than nothing.
Officeworks have changed there prices to avoid being matched. But does anyone know which Officeworks stores sell the top tier 15" MBP (2.5GHz i7, 16GB, 512GB) or is it only online
Just noticed this too, as I was going to go and buy one this afternoon damn.
Now if only dick smith will price match?
