Telstra: Bonus $150 Cashback from CashRewards for New Mobile Plans

630

Cash rewards are offering $150 cash back for signing onto OR recontracting a Telstra mobile plan for at least 24 months on a Mobile Accelerate Plan.

Great timing for me as I was about to order the new Galaxy S6 and switch to Telstra for the better network coverage.

Offer ends 22/4/2015.

  • I already signed up for an S6 with their $125 deal. I wonder if I can get this $150 instead since the phone hasn't been delivered yet.

    • unfortunately i wouldn't think so unless you cancelled that order, and then re-ordered again through the cash rewards website

    • Yeah I did the same. Probably not worth the hassle for $25. BTW did you receive any kind of confirmation from Cashrewards? I'm worried because it's a preorder something might stuff up…

      • In my experience they take a few days even over a week sometimes for it to come through. And they have a decent support service in that I have emailed about several purchases that didn't come through and they were able to follow it up and credit the balance for me.

      • BTW did you receive any kind of confirmation from Cashrewards?

Yup. I got a tracking receipt email from them the day after. It appears in my account as "Pending" too.

    • Any idea when you're expecting it? Furthermore, are you able to pick it up in-store?

      • the S6? I expect it this Friday. They'd better make sure it arrives then!
Pre-orders cannot be picked up in-store.

        • Don't get your hopes up, they're only posting them on Friday.

        • @noodlesfordaddy: My order confirmation email says the phone will be delivered from 10th April, not shipped from 10th April.

I've already got my tracking number too, the phone is currently with Star Track.

        • 'from' being the key word there, I think.

        • @noodlesfordaddy: Yup, they're probably just covering themselves just in case. I would imagine it might take a bit longer if I wasn't in a capital city too. The phone is "onboard with driver for delivery" now.

    $85 for 24 months = $2040
    Minus the $150 cash back = $1890

    Mobile is around $998.
So plan is about $37 per month for 1.5GB and $800 call cap.

Do ask about the Welcome Credit of $200.

My Note 4 was purchased with Cash Rewards of $125 plus $200 Welcome Credit.

      • +1

How are you suppose to ask when signing up online?

        • Ring them first and ask about Welcome Credit $200
          or
Ask them using the Chat feature and get confirmation and keep a copy of the conversation.

          I did the latter.

EDIT: As per below, looks like it was limited time. Didn't know that.

      • How recently was that?

Oh, the $200 Welcome credit was our Christmas offer for switching customers and has already expired on the end of December last year.

You are only welcome at Christmas © Telstra

    • That's good isn't it? Seems fairly reasonable for 1.5GB and $800.

      • It's not too bad.
But I am waiting for a better plan :-)

  • When I click through to Telstra from their website the prices of the Galaxy S6 plans go up by $3. Is this usual? Because this bargain is pretty significantly lowered if that's the case. Goes from $150 to $78.

    • Really? Wow

    • I just tried and their plans are the same whether typing in the site or clicking the cashrewards link. S $80, M $84, L $95, XL $130. What are you seeing?

    • +1

When you click through to Telstra from Cashrewards, the S6 link you see is for the small business plans. You'll notice they come with a data share sim too. If you click on the personal plans they're back to the "normal" prices.

      • Ahhhhh… mystery solved. Thanks for that.

        • The dumb thing is, those plans don't qualify for the cashrewards cashback as they're not Mobile Accelerate plans! I hope no one signed up for the wrong plan.

    • They go up $4 a month for me!

      Edit: replied late. My bad

  • So can I use this in-store?

    • No.

      • There's no way at all to pick up a phone from in-store then and order online to get this credit..?

        • I tried and had no luck. But give the online team a call and see what you can do.

  • Just thought I should ask this, is there a way to get this $150 cash back as well as the $20 a month off the L and Xl plans for being a long term customer ? Or its either one or other

    • That's what I did when it was $125. It should still work at $150.

      • Wait, how?

        • I first got confirmation of the $20 off deal through the chat. But (fortunately) because the phone isn't available yet, the chat rep says I can just put a preorder online first (which I did through cashrewards), then when I get the phone, contact the chat again to make sure the discount is applied. He gave me a reference number for our chat so it should be no problem.

  • So get on the online chat and get the $20 off a month confirmation then order through cashbacks? Did I miss anything?

    • Nope, that's it. Make sure you're signing up from the Personal link on the Telstra website though. As mentioned before, the big banner you see when you click through from cashrewards brings you to the small business plans.

What would be a valid conversation to receive the $20 discount? As I have to tell them which phone I'm getting to be offered the loyal customer discount, however I can't mention the galaxy s6 otherwise they'll redirect me to the only online order

        • just been with telstra online chat and was advised $20 off every mo n th is only offered for telstra service bundle customers :(

        • What would be a valid conversation to receive the $20 discount?

I just told them someone I know managed to get the $20 discount, I've been with Telstra for 10 years, and have internet and a landline with them too. The first person was totally unaware of any sort of discount for the S6, the second person was aware of it and said OK.

however I can't mention the galaxy s6 otherwise they'll redirect me to the only online order

After getting confirmation of the discount, I put in an order online (they can't do it till the phone is in their system) which is good as we can then go via cashrewards.

Switching to Telstra was the best thing I did, after my Vaya nightmare…

    • I know right. Their network actually works and they don't hide behind "best effort" legal idiocy and not provide a working network … legally.

TL;DR Telstra network is good in that it works.

  • a shame the business plans are not eligible. the spare sim is pretty useful

  • Personally, if you have cash to outlay, I would be purchasing a phone outright then going onto the Boost plan.

For $40 you get unlimited calls on 4g, 3GB data plus 1GB bonus data every Sunday

    • If looking at the S6, this is something to consider if you don't need unlimited calls:

      With Boost:
      A 32GB S6 outright is $999.
      24 months at $40 = $960
      Total cost: $960 + 999 = $1,959

      With Telstra:
      The 32GB S6 on a Telstra M plan with 3.5GB data is $70/month.
      70 x 24 = $1,680 minus $150 cashback = $1,530

For the 64GB model and more data -

      With Boost:
      A 64GB S6 outright is $1,149
      24 months at $40 = $960
      Total cost: $1149 + 960 = $2,109

      With Telstra:
      The 64GB S6 on a Telstra L plan with 6GB data is $99/month.
      99 x 24 = $2,376 minus $150 = $2,276.

      • I must be missing something because for the life of me i cant find an M plan being 70 a month inc the phone, i only see 84..

        • +1

No no, you're not! Looking at it again, I don't know where I saw $70 a month either. I must have been multitasking when I typed it out. Sorry! Maybe I was taking into account a bundle discount. I ended up going with the L plan as I managed to get the $20/month discount mentioned previously.

OK so the 32GB one is wrong, the 64GB is right. This would be the correct figure for the 32GB one.

          With Boost:
          A 32GB S6 outright is $999.
          24 months at $40 = $960
          Total cost: $960 + 999 = $1,959

          With Telstra:
          The 32GB S6 on a Telstra M plan with 3.5GB data is $84/month.
          84 x 24 = $2,016 minus $150 cashback = $1,866

It's still cheaper than buying outright and going on Boost, and you get Telstra's excellent warranty service, along with full access to Telstra's 4G network.

You can just pay the $999 that you would have spent on the phone outright plus the $150 cashback directly into your Telstra account on day 1, then pay $36/month for the next 24 months.

BTW, Boost is still officially 3G. The 4G trick doesn't seem to work anymore, from what I've read on WP.

        • @eug:

          The 32GB S6 on a Telstra M plan with 3.5GB data is $84/month.

Sorry, ONE more correction! I'm not having a good run here. :\

I had 3.5GB on the M plan which was why I read the current M plan deal (which just changed today) as "2.5GB plus 1GB". It's actually only 2.5GB.

The Small Business M plan has 3.5GB but you won't be able to claim the cashback.

    • Boost is great, but only 3g I'm pretty sure (unless you do a sneaky sim swap in a Telstra store.)

      • I have no idea. I live in Heathcote, country vic. and when I travel up to Bendigo, I always pick up 4g on my iPhone 4s with Boost. No tricks or anything?

        • That's very interesting. Well, one day I'll get a 4g phone and see what happens. Great deal for you!

  • so you dont really get the money off your plan or anyhting just cash back? am i right?

    • Yup, you can transfer it to your bank account.
