Aldi: Torrone Chocolate $5.99 for 150 Gram Bar

71

This is meant for people who like chocolate, and are looking for something different or are looking for Italian chocolate with roasted hazelnuts.

I tried the chocolate nougat with roasted hazelnuts. Except it wasn't nougat. It was chocolate made with nougat (or so it seemed). It's one of the specials at Aldi this week.

A quick check of the first few pages of an Australian Google search only found torrone chocolate at Aldi and a wedding supplier ($1 for a little piece from them).

The chocolate comes in a cardboard box as shown, but inside the box the chocolate is in a sealed foil bag. So this could be nice as a gift or if you like it, you could keep some for a while, for yourself. :)

In summary, a smooth chocolate … a friend said it's a touch closer to fudge than chocolate.

Not really expecting many if any votes here :) Just something interesting for other people who like chocolate, to try.

  • Note: I tried the "chocolate torrone with hazelnuts".

I'm assuming the others are regular Italian torrone nougat. I haven't tried them yet so I can't comment on them :)

  • Interested if anyone here likes them, I don't like plain nougat very often, but I often do when it involves chocolate so i'm not sure if I should try it for $6 hmmm…

  • how is $6.00 for a chocolate a bargain.

  • The title should probably be more accurately renamed as Nougat rather than Chocolate. from what I can see only one of them is choc flavoured. Doing a little bit of searching it seems a decent price for this type of nougat.

  • $40 per kg! Oooh I hate over priced christmas stuff.

:) I was just talking about the chocolate nougat which seems to be more of a chocolate … though if anyone does try the nougats before I get to them I'd be interested :)

Ah no, this is not meant as something to compare against a block of Cadbury's or something.

      This is more for someone:
      * looking to try something a little different
      * who has tasted a nice hazelnut chocolate from Italy but can't find anyone selling it (a relative)
      * something nice and different to share with friends of family, maybe as dessert

:) There are nougats there. The chocolate one though, is not chocolate flavoured nougat (which is what I'd thought) nor is it nougat covered in chocolate (another possibility I'd thought of). It seems to be chocolate made with nougat mixed into it.

The result is a very smooth chocolate, with roasted hazelnuts in it. I and a friend liked it so I just thought I'd give other people a heads up :)

:) The price might come down a bit in the coming week … I've got a suspicion this is supposed to be more of a luxury item so it's probably around this price all the time … if you can get it that is, which it looks like you can't once these stocks run out.

That said … it's just something I found nice and a little different to try. :) So if you miss out … don't worry :)

  • This Is a good price for Italian Chocolate! Ill go get some today

  • If you like nougat and chocolate, the Woolworths cheapo bag o' bars called Vault ( a Snickers ripoff) tastes really good if you keep it in the fridge so the nougat hardens. Made in Germany and about $12 per kg! Their Cadbury Whip ripoff in a blue bag is good too.

    • :) It's not nougat coated in chocolate … it's a soft, kind of fudge like chocolate, possibly made by mixing nougat into the chocolate mix :)

But thanks for the tip :)

The Vault ones have a layer of nougat (about 6mm), topped with a caramel fudge with peanuts in it all wrapped in chocolate (I just dissected one) :-)
