Updating Flashing Rom for China Droid Phone

so i have this china droid phone that runs 4.2

it's fine but I'm wanting to update because…..

anyway, it's a random china droid, i.e. not a brand as such. I've never seen the same model under another name, etc. thought the seller states it's a custom china market lenovo

so, how can I find out if it able to be updated to a new version of android? could I flash Cyanogen Mod to it? etc

never flashed an android device.

any advice, which is relevant, is appreciated.
