Hit & Run (Jubilee Terrace, Bardon QLD)

Hi Guys,

On the 31/3/15 my wife was driving in peak hour traffic, it was crawling all of a sudden a ute ran up the back of her and left the scene without leaving any details what so ever.. She is okay! She had one nice guy in a truck stay with her as he saw it all happen, unfortunately no rego number was recorded as it all happened so quickly..

The car is stil legal to drive we just replaced the tail light yesterday (Friend of mine just repairs suzuki swifts)

Insurance tell us we need to pay the excess $1,800 and are classed as fault for the accident regardless if she wasn't the cause.. all because no rego..

Got quote from repair company $2,400 so we are going to just go ahead with the repair booked in for 27/4/15 with a 10 day repair time. everywhere is booked up this high because of all the crazy storms / hail etc.. it's okay because we are going away on holidays and they can take the car and have it ready when we come back.. lucky!

Anyway moving forward yesterday morning I went back to that particular road and parked on the side of the road from 5am - 8am in hope the same ute would drive by and I'd get its rego! It's a main road so I'd gather he would still be using it,

His bumper fell off at the scene (Part of it) attached photo's http://imgur.com/a/SDlK7?gallery

I'm still trying to track down the make / model but so many different similar utes! my wife says it was a dual cab

Any help with this would be very much appreciated, if someone spots a ute same colour with similar damage please get in contact with me.. I'm pretty sure the guy will not be able to get his bumper fixed for good while as well because of all the storms / hail damaged cars..

Thanks everyone!

This is what the poor swift looks like at the moment =( http://imgur.com/gallery/JCa5L/new

However the tail light has been replaced since

Just did a search of that part number, came up as a part for a mazda bounty:
    https://partsworld.co.nz/parts/mazda/bounty/5259_un/21_rhf+d…

Here is an image of a 2001-2005 Mazda Bounty:

So judging by those details, it could be a Mazda Bravo:

    Hope that helps in anyway.

  • Thanks mate,

Yep that part matches this exactly,

    • So this is a 2006 Mazda Bravo, that part of the bumper matches exactly! so now I know what to look out for.. http://imgur.com/rxS8cUe

  • Sorry to hear about the accident, hopefully you will find the person responsible! A couple questions that come to mind … how did they get away in peak hour traffic that was crawling? Also, are you getting the repairs done through your insurance company or are you paying for it privately yourself? The reason I ask is that it sounds like you have advised your insurance of the accident which means they have a record of an 'at fault' accident (as you can't give them the details of the person responsible), even if you do not make a claim with them. This may affect your premiums next year.

    • Hi,
Yep he went down a side street off the main road,

cnr of jubilee terrace and Accession Street, Bardon, Queensland

If you are familiar with the road Jubilee Terrace gets very congested during peak hour

Yes Insurance have been notified the repair job could be even more so we are happy to just pay the excess as it could end up costing even more if we went privately.

Yep all done on the day of the accident, They can't do much without the rego.. =(

  • It's incidents like this that make me think I should invest in a front and back dashcam, I'd better get onto it.

    Good luck OP!

    • Yep! Already looking into front and rear dashcam ;) Drivers are getting worse and worse.. I've heard that even if I do go ahead with the claim pay the excess and a few months later police or a member of the public find this ute I can get my insurance to take him to court over it and they will do all the legals for me..

      I Wish!! / Hope ;)

  • What a (profanity) hope they find the prick.
    good luck mate.

    • Me too!!

It's for stolen cars, but maybe someone can find the car you are looking for. Would there be any businesses down or up the road with surveillance? I feel it would be hard to get the police to look into this one, but they should have access to road surveillance.

  • No fixed security cameras in the area?

    • Not that im aware of? How would I go about finding some tho? I dont think there are any traffic cams but I could be wrong
