All I got from the first offer was spam email (no permission was given to use my email for marketing). No unsubscribe option either.

  • +4

failed to mention that 200gms is 22 bucks plus 4.50 postage

or 1kg is 100 bucks plus 6 bucks postage!

It's not really free if you have to buy something first.

  • -1

most expensive jerky in the world.

    • -4

No offence but i just went into google and typed jerky then went to the first result…hmmm
1 kilo very expensive and a 20gram pack is over 4 dollars + postage.

      • +1

Gerinimo smokem too much peace pipe.

No jerky last time, you blowiing smoke up our tee-pees.

        :)

    • +1

I'd pay money for good jerky

      • +10

Pssst. It's not that kind of jerky.

  • +5

Another deal…and my free jerky hasn't arrived yet despite getting a confirmation email =\

  • I got the email and went to buy 1 of each flavour, but was put off by the postage of $3 for each one. Didn't think it was worth it so i didn't buy anything. Maybe try and introduce a postage cap? Or free shipping offers always go great around here i believe.

  • it actually does taste much better than the Jack Links stuff we bought after trying Geronimo's Jerky. We got 2 but one was opened already

I am waiting for this to appear in stores then i am on it like a shot

  • +1

I signed up to get the free jerky offer, nearly as soon as the offer was online on OzBargain, i never even got an e-mail, :(

    • There you go, free sample simply for the asking with an SAE:

      • Thank you Horizon-

I didnt even think of asking you to pay the postage-

It does annoy me that some people say biltong beef jerky or all biltong beef jerky-

        Completly different taste.

  • -5

It would be nice for the people that got there free jerky last week to actually just say they got it.
And as mentioned we are sending out 200 more next week and so on but I understand.

Alot of people didnt join up as " Freinds of Geronimo" they just sent a message to us in our contact page saying I want a free sample which was the incorrect method.

If you received a confirmation email saying you joined up then you should be getting a sample as above message.

    The Big Chief.

We have had so many signups its not funny…It started off with 25 singups then 100 and now I simply want people to taste, compair and buy so Yes I am going to take the chance and provide free samples to all so far.
I would hate for you not to be able to try it……….
      Big Chief.

Haven't got my sample…so get who loss here?
Don't want to waste any more time!

      • +1

I didn't get my sample too, I was among the first 50-100 to signup I think…

however I got the confirmation e-mail, nothing else…

    • I got my free sample (mentioned in previous GJ thread) and it was indeed very good. Big thanks to the Chief for sending out more samples than they anticipated too. Here's hoping the chief can pull through for all of the samples in due course, so we can avoid the negative comments :)

  • +1

Having tasted the sample I can tell you this is great product! The price is competitive with other jerky available in this country, in fact cheaper than many others! As BC said, if you don't believe, just google for yourselves! ;)

I'll be ordering my kilo as soon as the new offer is on the website! :)

    • +1

Agree with Stew best tasting jerky so far

  • -1

    Hi all,
I received my sample last week and i must say it tasted great.
I ordered some of each and i am just waiting to receive it….
can't wait by the way LOL. I will definitely be ordering more.
    Cheers Colin.

  • +2

I received the news last week or so that the online-store was up. This promo seems OK, sweetens the deal - would probably have purchased something however will pass until I do get the sample. No offense taken as to why I haven't received anything yet, I understand why. It's just that I have had bad tasting jerky before from other places and will probably stick to jack-links for the time being.

If I can suggest a promo deal for the 40g packs, I would definitely be interested in trying out the Blazin' Saddle and taking it from there. :)

    • Oh dude, don't stick to Jack Links, OMG that stuff is terrible! I swear, when I tried some I honestly thought it was Schmackos, I'd have been better off pinching one of the dog's dry pig-ears! ;)

This product is vastly superior in both flavour and texture! You won't ever go back once you try this! :)

      • Ordered 200g of blazin saddle today :p

        • Free Postage does help doesnt it..

          Thank you Yesiamcheap

  • +8

I signed as a Friend of Geronimo back then, and have never received any sample, so why would I be interested in a shirt to buy a product I have never even gotten to try?

  • +3

    Give me a break………

over two months to scrape together a tiny sample pack……..
How long to scrape together a kilo?

    life's too short………

    • Coupla months to scrape together a coupla thousand sample packs is more like it, and that's 20kg + 2k x postage @ $1.10; seriously, do you blame them for pacing themselves? ;)

As you said yourself, building a business is a marathon…

  • +2

Im sure the jerky is good but $100 for jerky is crazy whether its a deal or not, I mean unless you have a stack of mates around every other night gutsing the stuff, it would take about 10 years to eat

    Anyway + from me

PS: If and when I get the $100 NAB bonus, it could go towards jerky!

    • Orgasmo-

I think some people buy it and resale it or give it away for gifts or party packs.

We do have 200gram packs and 40gram packs for smaller apetites.

      • -4

Would the jerky pushers then be called 'jerks' ???

  • +1

I received my sample last week and I can tell you this stuff is great!

If you're still waiting for your sample, just be patient. If you cant just buy one small pack, you wont regret it haha.

  • -3

    Andy—were have you been???

We have sent out samples but we havent sent out all samples-

last week we sent 200 samples and people have received them and made comments.

So in true fact I have well passed the 100 from original offer.

    Thank you for your concern.

      two months later…..?
Happy to see these kind of campaigns, however you need the capacity to be able to respond promptly. As I said, 2 months for a sample pack, (albeit free), does not inspire confidence in your ability to deliver the product to your consumers.
Your constant reference to getting your site fixed by your 'web designer' is also concerning - get it 'fixed' and working prior to going 'live', not on the hoof, putting out fires as they occur.

Honesty is also the best policy…..your assertion that

Geronimo Jerky is made daily, packaged and sold that same week!

was clearly, at best, an overstatement at the time. There was no evidence that the product was available in any retail outlet.
Your 'poster girl' consists of stock photos of the professional model, Laura Leigh Sinai, who may, or may not, be aware that her image is being used as part of your campaign. I suspect her costs have rocketed since her appearance on 'true beauty', so perhaps that is where much of your marketing budget has been spent? She is not Australian, being born and raised in New York. I also note that you are currently advertising on many of the 'casting'/model websites in Aus for the 'poster girl'.

I wish you luck with your business…..however it is worth noting that viral marketing can be a double edged sword….if it goes well….it can go very well. If you create hype, then fail to deliver, it can bite you in the arse big time.

Make sure you are well prepared before lift off……The world is a very fickle place…….

Thank you Andy for your constructive criticism - Your many many hours of research on Geronimo Jerky is invaluable to us as a new start-up business. I would only hope it doesn’t take away time from your obviously successful business your running.

Ok Andy let’s look at this deal-If I remember correctly this is what was posted "Geronimo Jerky - FREE American Style Beef Jerky for the first 100 "Friends of Geronimo"
That looks like I posted 100 doesn’t it? The first 100 samples were posted the following week to the FIRST 100-I then out of the goodness of my heart said I would send to all members a sample, remember? I think you forgot that. I also said that this is coming out of my own pocket and that we would be sending 200 per week which we are doing with another 200 going out at the end of the week.

Your ‘poster girl’ consists of stock photos (INCORRECT)of the professional model, Laura Leigh Sinai, who may, or may not, be aware that her image is being used as part of your campaign. I suspect her costs have rocketed since her appearance on ‘true beauty’, so perhaps that is where much of your marketing budget has been spent? She is not Australian, being born and raised in New York. I also note that you are currently advertising on many of the ‘casting’/model websites in Aus for the ‘poster girl’.

Not Stock photos Andy-My brother shot Laura’s pictures in New York specifically for our Comp-check him out here and send him an email if you like( www.matthoyle.com )-I thought seeing as Laura is for the most part Native American it wouldn’t hurt to have her as our first poster girl.

Again thank you for your feedback.

        The Big Chief

        • My brother shot Laura’s pictures in New York specifically for our Comp

Happy to stand corrected……it's a pity you were not able to place any product association within the photos…… must have cost plenty, you could at least have got the logo in there somewhere.

I also said that this is coming out of my own pocket and that we would be sending 200 per week which we are doing with another 200 going out at the end of the week.

This should be coming from your marketing budget, not your pocket. You are not a charity.

Launching a product some 2 months before it could actually be purchased, could have been timed better……I might have purchased on the day the deal was posted…..(I am not overly keen on giving up my personal details to anyone online - particularly for a "freebie")…..however the option was not available. After a month I enquired if there were any retail outlets, as your site said it was made and sold that same week….clearly it wasn't.
So…..my interest, and potential custom was there……unfortunately that has been eroded somewhat, along with some trust.
However, from the postings here and deal +'s it would appear that many are more forgiving, and you may just have got away with it…….Hopefully you will not have difficulties fulfilling retail orders……As you have probably seen……the crowd on here can be a bit "flaming torch and pitchforks" if roused.

          • +2

@andy19363: Orders are going well- to be Honest Andy we are just trying to build the business and havent got money to burn.

Sorry for my hot headed response to - Must be the Ozbargain fever.

              @GeronimoJerky: building a business is a marathon….not a sprint :)

            • +2

@GeronimoJerky: Jerky, i am not sure why you are apologising. It seems this andy guy is the one acting like a tool. I think you have done well to control yourself. He just has an agenda against you. He's whinging cos he didnt get a little sample.
Do you get to rip open a pack of cereal before you buy it at Coles. Don't think so.
GeronimoJerky has been nice enough to give samples. Obviously his agenda is to increase sales. He decided, it seems, to offer 100 free samples and after a good response, to increase that. If you were not in the first 100, he owes you nothing. It seems he stuck to his word and sent out the first 100 and more to others.
              In andy's own words above:

"life’s too short………" to wait for a sample, but obviously not short enough to whinge and moan and research his website and offer "advice".
Get over yourself mate - GeronimoJerky (and the world) owes you nothing.
All the best for your venture GJ

              • @mick123: perhaps if you learn to read a little better…

I might have purchased on the day the deal was posted…..(I am not overly keen on giving up my personal details to anyone online - particularly for a “freebie”)…..however the option was not available.

I have neither ordered a sample, nor bought any of the product…

  • +4

I did receive my sample from the signup, I would like to thank
The Big Chief for that, it was very nice.

As for everyone else who signed up, patience is a virtue, bear in mind that it came in an envelope with $1.10 worth of stamps stuck on it. It would have cost a bit to have all the samples sent out.

    eg. 1000 sign ups x stamps $1.10 (not including envelope) = $1100.

Once I have sorted out my Christmas pressie lists, I will order some with my leftover money.

    • Savememoney-

Its actually a big cook for us as we put the beef on racks and cook for 14 hours-

3 kilos of meat reduces down to 1 kilo of jerky-I do this because it leaves you with a far more superiour jerky then other ones on the market.

As you can imagin this is also an expense as I only use the best cuts to keep fat content down.
      That along with packaging $$$

      The Big Chief

  • Thank you Savememoney-Thanks for understanding

  • +15

I'm not expecting positive votes for this, but anyway…

Reading these negative from whiny people on their soapboxes makes is making my blood boil. You signed up for a FREE sample. You didn't PAY for ANYTHING. Yet you feel like you have a right to complain, demand and demean GeronimoJerky?

These guys are going out of their way, with their own time and money out of pocket. As savemoney mentioned, there is a minimum cost of $1100 to get the 1000 FREE samples out there. Not including the cost of the product they are sending itself.

I was also one of the first few to sign up after the OzBargain, but instead of whining and complaining that I have yet to receive something that I did NOT have to pay a cent for, nor did anything to deserve, I remembered why I signed up to get the free trial to begin with - I like jerky and was interested in trying their product.

Personally, I got in contact with Big Chief via email and ordered a 40g pack of each of the three flavours so I can try them for myself.

Now I'm not saying all of you should do this, because surely a lot of you are just in it for the free factor and are not interested in spending any money. But if you like jerky perhaps think about buying one of the packs, same as if you were picking up a 6-pack at the bottle-o and there was a new jerky to try.

To sum this all up, just lay off these guys. They're doing this all out of their own pocket and it doesn't help that every time they post a deal people have a whine.

    • +3

It reminds me when you go to a restaurant and you get a free appetiser and it ends up being really disgusting - can you complain cause its free? sure you can. But also keep in mind people expect a certain level of service, such as actually receiving it?

Though in my opinion, i don't mind waiting an x number of weeks or months for a freebie as long as it actually comes and as long as i'm given a rough timeframe….

Also the arguement that these samples is costing them money is not acceptable as it's a form of marketing that obviously is working for them, though it is also backfiring as customers want it now now now!… perhaps hire a bit more staff or email people back saying it'll be a few more days/weeks?

      • Clearly, you've never started up a business dude; let me assure you unchecked marketing costs like unplanned free sample blowouts (incl additional staff) can cause companies to haemorrage funds beyond viability! Throwing money at a problem isn't the only solution either! I happen to think Geronimo has gone above and beyond the call by exponentially increasing the number of free goodwill samples they are sending out! 100>2000 for goodness sake!!!

I personally hope they continue to pace themselves in the rollout of samples, primarily so they grow strong and they're always around for me to order jerky! I'll not pretend I don't always have my own best interests at heart, just let's not hunt them to extinction eh? ;)

Early in the process BC posted on OzB the facts about the numbers involved and the inclusion of far more people than initally planned, and at that time, true to his word an explanatory email was sent to those that signed up successfully regarding the delay, and asking for patience. There's a transcript of it on one of the other threads for reference!

Did you not sign up or get this email?

    • Oh my goodness-Thank you so much.

Makes me feel a little better to be honest-

I hate to disappoint people and it was getting frustrating some of the comments-Some have been made by people that havent even signed up as Friends of Geronimo.

Good to see that you ordered some-Let me know what you think.

Oh-Just so you know we are trying to get the post pricing down if you buy more then one thing to make it more attractive.

Again thank you and please enjoy.

      The Big Chief

      • +1

"Oh-Just so you know we are trying to get the post pricing down if you buy more then one thing to make it more attractive."

Thankyou! The postage was really the deal breaker for me. Having said that this deal was to good to turn down, I am always buying jerky so have bought a 200g pack with 2x40g pack that way i will get to try all flavours. I also found out my account number was around ~650 so hopefully my free sample isn't to far off either.

        Matt

    • +3

Well the free sample is really a marketing expense, like putting an add on TV and things.
if there's no marketing then they wont sell as many of their product.

as with any free item, i see it as if it comes that's great if not they wont have my business.
but dont make it sound like they are a charity, just giving out free stuff. Cause they are
not! if they are a reputable company ppl does have some expectation that they'll honour their offer.

    • +2

Nicely put Samba. Some people can be so ignorant and self-righteous, it's disgusting and totally lacking an understanding of what is important in life these days. Not only is it free to them, it is also a LUXURY but they behave as if it is a necessity

  • I voted positive because other ozbargainers have received their sample.

Can't wait to get mine and buy some supposedly great jerky ;)

By the way, the reason why I NEED a sample is that they sell three flavours.

Unless I want to spend a lot of money finding out which one I like the most then I need a sample.

I have a feeling my favorite will be "Blazin' Saddle" since I like hot food :)

    • Hello SamFisher-please go to our website, contact us and in subject line put my turn Big Chief-blaze me.

  • Store is open…

  • How long can this Jerky be stored for? 100 bucks wouldn't be so bad if I could use it over a period of a few months, or even a year.

  • Happy Kamper-its cooked/dehydrated for 14 hours - it takes 3 kilos to make one kilo-that gives it one of the lowest water activity pretty much making it hard for bacteria growth.
will store out of fridge in dark place for over six months easily.

I would be happy to break it down in four 250 bags for you but you will be fine.

    Any Questions let me know.

    The Big Chief

    • TBC, thanks for your very quick reply. 6 months is plenty of time. I was interested because I think this would make a healthier snack alternative to the potato chips and chocolate bars I sometimes eat while at work. I don't think any separation would be required for such a long period, but thanks for the offer!

  • As I expected, my previous rant has been buried under negative votes. Sorry Big Chief, did what I could. - samba/samb0rg.

  • never got my free sample, bought jerkey elsewhere (aussiebilltong FYI DONT BOTHER its shit)

not going to spend so much money on a snack until I get proven results from now on.

  • well i ordered a 1kg and a 200g pack, havent had jerky but if i dont like it im sure i can find people that do.

  • Quantocks-go to our webiste and email me- in subject put Billtong or buffalo droppings I will then find you in our data base and make sure you are one of the 200 getting samples this week.

    • -3

Can you make sure I am one of the 200 getting a sample this week??

  • +2

funny, because your kg won't even last a month. very addictive stuff. making your own is easy though: cut beef into thin strips, marinate overnight, cook in over for 7 hours at 50deg. presto

    • Sounds easy, but I've never been able to do it successfully! Mine always ended up being too tough & stringy (which sounds like an oxymoron, but there are limits); or too dry & crumbly (dissolved into powder in the mouth)!

I've come to the personal realisation that there are just some things that I'm happy to pay a professional to do for me! ;)

  • -2

I don't eat beef jerky but will say this:
    - From those who have tried it, it looks like it is a great product (quality and taste wise) and at a good/reasonable price.

    • People who didnt get their FREE sample are a bunch of numb-nuts and whingers. I will give this deal a positive just to annoy you ;)

    1kg Big Boy - $100 plus $10.00 postage

At best this marginalised product offers a discount of 20%. And I'm not buying this promotion stuff from reps.

Clever marketing though - pump up the base price and offer some smaller samples to sweeten the deal.

And come on, how many people are going to buy a 1kg of Jerky!! Seriously.

The product may be great, free samples previously provided, but this deal ain't no bargain in my book.

I think the pack mentality on a lot of these products mean people are afraid to vote neg.

But, it's a neg from me.

    • Hello Michael-

Clever marketing though - pump up the base price and offer some smaller samples to sweeten the deal.

Base Price is not inflated-go to any store and you will see that our prices's are spot on.
The only time I see Jerky for under $100 kilo is if it has been made in someones garage or through un un-hygenic and un-accredited Kitchen. Also not really small samples if it cost me $1.10 to post with 200 going last week. I have decided to make the sample smaller this week so i can give out more and get a reduced postal charge.

And come on, how many people are going to buy a 1kg of Jerky!! Seriously.

1/5 people but for the others they have a choice—-40g or 200g.

The product may be great, free samples previously provided, but this deal ain’t no bargain in my book.

No other Jerky shop that i am aware of is giving jerky away with purchase- Buy 200g and get 80g thrown in or buy 1000g and get 200g thrown in plus a t-shirt. I would think this is a bargain for people that purchase jerky but you probly dont buy jerky so I can understand it doesnt work for you.

I think the pack mentality on a lot of these products mean people are afraid to vote neg.

      But, it’s a neg from

      MichaelRoos,

I'm not sure you're thinking straight.

Disregard the perceived quality of the item and focus on the cost as this is what you're doing.

200gm of Geronimo Jerky = $29 to your door.

Drive yourself to your local bottle and and pick up 8 packs of Nobby's or Jack Links jerky, cos they're 25gm a bag, and arguably inferior tasting. I got a sampler in the mail on Friday so I can attest to it.

I can almost guarantee that you'd be up for nearly $40. At least you are around these parts which is hardly the boondocks.

On that basis alone it is well priced. Add the free jerky and it becomes a bargain.

Okay djsherly - lets play the pricing game.

May I humbly suggest that your pricing from a bottle shop for Beef Jerky is possibly the most expensive place on Earth you could buy Jerky.

Personally I'm not that interested in Jerky and I think the rep responsded really well to my post.

Yet, I'm always up for a challenge. A "brief" search came up with this:

        http://www.biltong.net.au/order.html

Half the price of this "bargain".

        • "May I humbly suggest that your pricing from a bottle shop for Beef Jerky is possibly the most expensive place on Earth you could buy Jerky"

No you may not. RRP of that particular jerky is around $4.50.

Half the price of this “bargain”."

Conceded, but that price is an absolute outlier from the links I persued.

          • @djsherly: Not many people paying RRP around here…

            • @MichaelRoos: From what I have read here, this Jerky sounds like it is great.

The Biltong stuff is very average. I'd rather pay more for something decent, and I'm sure a lot of others on here would also.

              • @dabarkle: Yep - the product does sound great, doesn't it. No arguments there.

If you look at the link I posted, the company quite clearly lists Biltong AND Jerky. My price comparisons are just that - price comparisons. I'm comparing Jerky with Jerky - am I not?

                • +1

@MichaelRoos: its like comparing frozen pizza with that from an italian restaurant. its pizza compared with pizza right?

or a toyota camry versus a ferrari. both are cars but toyota is cheaper, why buy a ferrari?

                  • @furythree: So you're saying Geronimo Jerky tastes better than D.Jays Jerky so it's worth twice as much. I see…

                    • @MichaelRoos: have you tasted it

im just saying, the reason people are basing their comments is on the fact that they find it better. and therefore want to buy it for that price. because for most people its either they buy it cause its good or they dont buy it at all. theres no in between. would you buy a $50k car that works or a cheap car that doesnt work properly or not at all. same principle. it doesnt matter whos right or wrong here just learn to understand others point of views

                      • @furythree: No.

Have you tasted both to make a comparison? :-P

                        • +1

                          @MichaelRoos: i actually just ordered a 200gm pack lol

will get back to you on that

                          • +1

@furythree: Good for you! Please let me know! Nice debating with ya.

                            • @MichaelRoos: same here, good to see people who use reason instead of blind insults on the internet for once :)

now all that remains is the taste test and their delivery time

                              im hungry NOW! :P

                              • +3

@furythree: I just got back from the shop packaging up some orders and missed all this…I agree with everyone to be honest even MichaelRoos BUT like anything you get what you pay for.

For a jerky lover they realize that this is hands down one of the best they have tasted-This is for many reasons-Great cut of top quality meat-hand carved in a way to maximize flavour-we cook the hell out of it to make sure the moiture is out of it allowing for a huge shelf life and an amazing taste. 3 kilos make 1 kilo of Jerky.

Also I am not a Rep I am one fo the owners-the Big Chief who brought this recipe over from the USA over 20 years ago-Recipe was passed down from generation to generation. I am of course wanting to make money as a business but I am also very passionate about this product and want everyone to enjoy it.

Anyways I am rambling on- I hope we get some more feedback on here from true Jerky eaters.

                                Thank you,

                                Mark "the Big Chief"

      Kind Regards,

      The Big Chief

      • Cool. Is there a postage discount for 2 bags or more? How many people would the Party Sharer usually accomodate?

I find the website very sexist and derogatory to women…

    http://www.geronimojerky.com/poster-girl.aspx

There is no reason to exploit and demean women to sell pieces of dried cows…
