AKG K553 PRO USD $145 Shipped @ Massdrop Exclusive

110

RRP $299. Deal: USD $144.99 shipped to Aus.

Exclusive to Massdrop, AKG K553 Pro is an update to the venerable K550. Impressions seem to indicate that the K553 Pro has improved bass and refined treble, both of which were the main complaints about the already excellent K550. Should make it a very competitive closed back headphone even at RRP imo.

This drop is limited to 2,400 units.

With a 1000 buyers the headphones are USD $119.99. Shipping to Australia is USD $25. Total cost $144.99. As tuzii says, the shipment will go through a forwarder, so may take a bit longer, but seeing as everything is already organised for you it should be straight forward compared to normal forwarding service routine.

      • Saw massdrop posted this deal a few days ago. They didn't ship this overseas. This is definitely a very good price!

  • If you can't afford the AKG or the queue doesn't reach 1000 then you can line up for a set of Koss Portapros for $50 delivered from Massdrop

The Koss will ship to Oz without an extra charge as mentioned by tuzii above.

I've seen PortaPros coming down to $25 + Shipping at Amazon. If you can wait for the price drop, waiting for one wouldn't be too bad.

If you already own a PortaPro, KOSS KSC-75 units are compatiable with PortaPro headband. They cost ~USD $15 + Shipping (Shipping does kill it a little but it's still cheaper than getting a PortaPro shipped here)

      Damn that's a ugly headphone

    Damn the weak AUD :(

    • i do remember the reserve bank (in their infinite wisdom) saying last year they want to make the AUD 75 cents of a US dollar.

      • Be fair, exchange rate was too high last year, imo.

        • Still high for a weak economy.

        • @alwayseric: I've heard about the articles that actually is going for even lower Australian exchange rate to make the Australian export stronger. I dunno, I personally think Australia should be doing something about current situations, it's already dangerously late in my opinion.

        • @AznMitch: totally agree. Australian economy actually is really week at the moment. The government wasted best opportunity to develop other industries other than mining and resources.
The mining boom will not happen again, let's say in at least 10years. The iron ore price already dropped to 51usd today.

        • @alwayseric:
It's just odd to me, we all favour free markets yet you say government should do this, government should develop that. Industries are developed by the individual actions of hundreds of thousands of private enterpreneurs. Government produce nothing. All they can do is take resource from one, and shift it to another. The RBA do not have a crystal ball, they do not know the future. We are all in the dark. They do not and cannot know the full consequences of their actions on each and every human beings living on this island. Even if it benefits some, it harms others.
I am prone to entrust the fate of australia's economy to the risk-taking actions of the entrepreneurs over the central planners, particularly the RBA. Not to mention that the unlimited expansion of the money supply and the driving down of the purchasing power of other people's money is immoral.

        • @Kanasuke: But trusting free market to do everything is stupid. The true free market concept never exist in real life. A true free market would have no laws and no regulations, no minimum wage, no laws against child labour etc. The government should be careful of what they are doing, but not doing anything because they can ruin something can have worse effects on the economy.

In fact, I have to argue that some of the successful countries that exist today are direct results of government planned industry and markets. Toyota would be just a mill maker if it weren't for enormous government investment, S. Korea would probably be at similar position as North Korea if it weren't for the government planned economy (i.e. North Korea had higher GDP until 60s? 70s? I believe). Also, governments always influence the economy in one way or another with subsidies and taxes, they shape the economy indirectly.

The poison is in the dosage, completely unregulated market is as bad as completely controlled market.
