Have you had a look inside to make sure there is no lint or pocket fluff stuck in there? In a former life I spent a lot of time supporting ipod/iphone issues and almost all of the time someone came in with an headphone issue where there was only one channel it was because something was stuck down the end of the headphone jack.
A cotton tip with some isopropyl alcohol carefully inserted into the headphone jack is the best way of getting rid of any gunk.
Unfortunately it looks pretty difficult to replace the jack itself, and will probably cost more then a decent second-hand unit.
Went to try connon bud but was way too big,
Ended up using a pin, There was a little lint in there, But still done it, Then I noticed the copper near the top moves on left but not the right, So with the saftey pin pulled it out a little, Still does it but nowhere near as bad!
Cheers guys!
iPod Classic 160GB MC293LL/A (Silver) or MC297LL/A (Black) were on sale until September 2014, so if you have a
1Yr Warranty take it to Apple in Rundle Mall.
Otherwise around $49 via http://www.fixpod.com.au/repair/ipodclassic/headphone
