Netflix, Stan, Presto or Quickflix?

With the hype around Netflix releasing itself today I am torn between what to choose. What would you decide and why?

Saw this article as well. Turns out netflix is unmetered usage for those with iinet, internode or optus. Excellent news for those who don't want to chew through the limits :D

Netflix then get the Hola extension to watch the US content.

Sign up to all of them. They all have a 30 day free trial then cancel the ones you don't want.

The best part is that there's no specialised equipment and if there continues to be no sign up fees in the foreseeable future you can switch over every month if you wanted to.

The bad part is that the same old TV licensing model for sitcoms is playing out in the streaming industry so it may be years or decades before any streamer can provide you with the shows you want to see on-demand. This just shows the STUPIDITY of the industry as a whole and is why piracy persists. If there's one show not on Netflix you want to watch you have to fork out for an entire competing plan?!

I literally don't watch any TV shows anymore so I'm not annoyed for myself personally but I've always hated the Foxtel model of "packages". Same goes for mobile packages and all the other packages in life that force you to buy options you don't need. They're ruining all our lives and eating all our steak.

I just want an option to give my grandma access all those soaps that have been repeating since the 60s and a database of movies to flip through.

Waiting for Kogan to respond with their own version…

  • Netflix only seems worth it if you're willing to pay that bit more for Standard ($12), and/or if you're going to use DNS switching to access their content libraries for other countries.

Personally, I'm just gonna leave it all alone for a few months. I tried Stan when it was first released, and over the course that month, it improved greatly. I think you're better off waiting for all the offerings to mature a bit before commiting to anything.

    • I tried Stan in the first month it was out but it was beset with technical problems. Maybe I'll give it another chance in a few months.

      • It was pretty hit and miss, but it also improved immensely over the month, so if it can stay on that trajectory, it'll be fantastic by the end of the year!

  • Not much to watch on any of them, especially now that I watch a few more HBO and ABC(American) shows… none of them are on Netflix.

  • Anyone know where to find complete lists of their tvshows/movies etc?

    • If you have a T-Box you can browse the Presto library without joining. Not sure if you can do this on other clients? Prepare to be underwhelmed, it's currently on a par with Quickflix (ie: garbage). I saw Stan at a friend's, it didn't grab me either, but it seemed more enticing than either Presto or Quickflix. Looks like Stan is going to improve with age as well. Here's a list of sorts: http://televisedrevolution.com/online/stan-is-here-should-yo…

Here's a list of Netflix programs, for the US and Oz, we're missing a lot, hopefully the catalogue will grow over time:

Best advice was Wonderboy's, they all have free trials, try them all.

  • I purchased the google chrome cast which offer 2 month free subscription to Quickflix. Never again will I use this crap provider the app never work and the most video you can stream is likely was produces in the 60s which is likely to be free to view from youtube anything that is decent require premium subscription. Quickflix is the biggest scam.

  • Netflix is slick and seamless.

Appears directly on Apple TV, so no messing round with Air Play (or similar technology to cast device screen to TV screen).

Apps/programs on huge range of devices to browse catalogue, create wish-lists on a per-person basis (ie separate lists for me, my wife, each of the kids). Between us we have iOS, Android and WIndows Phone phones, but all catered for no problem.

    BUT….

The catalogue is just way too sparse - very disappointing when compared to US. It's not the occasional good movie MISSING, but rather the occasional good movie PRESENT! Heaps of new movies missing, but also heaps of old classics that I wouldn't mind revisiting.

Strangely, the only TV series I've watched in years, a weird French zombie thriller (Les revenants), originally shown on SBS, is actually on Netflix (at least, the first few episodes).

So after the free month is up, it's either manual DNS configuration or giving up on it until it improves

  • Netflix all the way. Would love to consider Stan but they don't have Closed Captions.

  • I'm going to give Netflix and Stan their trial run. Couldn't help but notice Presto is being advertised quite heavily atm…

  • I installed netflix on my PS4 last night for a month free offer. Damn it is good. So much stuff to watch. How often do they update their content? I've tried presto in the past, what a joke it was compared to netflix.

  • I have signed up for 3 out of 4 so far..
First, Stan. Watched all the TV shows and movies I liked in the first week. Cancel my Stan account. Sign up for Netflix, did the same thing and now I am up to Presto. So far I hate the UI.
Then I am off to Quickflix

I don't get why people would pay a monthly fee and my favorite has been Netflix.

    • People pay to allow industry to thrive else there will be no trial period and others cannot judge what they want.
