FixedRoute - Dedicated IP VPN's in Australia - Pre-Order for $11/Year - Works with Netflix

41

At FixedRoute we've opened up our dedicated IP VPN's in Australia for pre-orders. We have an ETA to launch this on 5th April. The pre-orders are open until 4th April, although we expect to sell out before then.

Our VPN's provide you with a static IP through an encrypted connection, which keeps you secure from any overlooking bodies (ISP's, governments etc.).

The packages come with 1500GB/year bandwidth, at $11AUD - this price is locked and you'll never pay more. This is an incredibly low price for a static IP VPN in Australia, and we'll most likely be at least doubling this for other users once we go live on 5th April.

We can confirm that these are also able to make use of Netflix in Australia (props to them for launching today!) so that you can watch your favourite content whilst out of the country.

This is a very limited offer, and we do expect to sell out quickly due to a high level of demand for this secure service.

We'll try and provide as much stock for you guys as possible, as we're keen to keep a positive relationship with OzBargain. As always, I'm here to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks,
Liam

This company is an absolute joke. They offered dedicated IP's last year with VPN.sh and then never supplied them despite taking money. They then founded fixed route and offered people accounts but never answered support tickets. Stay very far away.

Also LOL at "keeping a positive relationship with ozbargain", when I posted a simialar comment on your last deal you deleted the entire post to cover up your incompetence

    • Hi there,

We've got zero active support tickets or client awaiting services to be activated. We did indeed have some issues with our dedicated IP's in Dallas last year, however everything is now running absolutely smoothly and has done for several months. I'm sure many of our clients who took advantage of our New Years Eve offer over here at OzBargain will attest to that.

If you're an active client, please open a support ticket and I'll personally see to your issues.

      Thanks,
      Liam

EDIT: I'm unsure as to which post was completely deleted. Please open a ticket or a PM with me here as this doesn't sound like us at all, and could well be a misunderstand somewhere.

      • +1

Some issues is an understatement… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150976

See ticket #761077 at VPN.sh and Ticket #497529 at fixedroute. If you fix this up I will reply below so people know your support is now working as it should

        • Hi there, just to clarify, this seems like your order got mistakenly cancelled and we've now been in touch with you to provide some insight into this. Please let us know if we can assist further via your support tickets.

          ################# UPDATE

YAY!!! They have now fixed my issue and credited my accounts to compensate for the trouble. Their response came within 15 minutes so it's safe to say their support system is now working fine.

        • @stirlo:

Please do get in touch with us if you have any issues. Having said that, all now should be fine and I'm confident that our service will show through to be of use to you.

Feel free to use your compensatory credit on this offer.

    • I think in VPN.sh's defence, I haven't seen their post being deleted though even the ones like https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150976,

That said, does sounds like what you're explaining.

      • Indeed, we had some issues with our dedicated IP's many months ago (as you can see, around 9 months ago) - this has all been resolved and we now have many very happy clients. All those who had issues have been very reasonably compensated for the issues.

  • And still use the name VPN sh LOL LOL

Seriously though, given now Netflix is starting in Aus - i think the "Works with Nexflix" theme probably loses some of its charm.

    • The reason for the "Works with Netflix" is to verify that our IP's work with the new Australian Netflix service - this is mainly aimed so that users who are outside of the country will still be able to access Netflix whilst on holiday/vacation.

      • +1

Hahaha I think you are misunderstanding the role of a VPN with Netflix…..most users are trying to NOT connect to the Australian one with limited content.

        • Thanks for letting us know this - I've just updated a second offer for Seattle and New York City (access to USA Netflix) for the same price, with 5TB/year bandwidth. You can order these at the following links:

          New York City: https://my.fixedroute.com/cart.php?a=add&pid=19&currency=4
          Seattle: https://my.fixedroute.com/cart.php?a=add&pid=20&currency=4

        • @LiamWithers: Nice idea. They're showing up as $13 rather than $11 in my cart, though.

        • +1

          @daffyd:

My apologies - this has now been updated. Please check again and the price should be updated.

        • @LiamWithers:
This deal seems better than the original post with 5tb allowance vs 1.5tb. Am I missing something? Are there other differences?

        • @LiamWithers:
          Do you have Europe servers?

        • @julz:

The 5TB/year VPN's are for the two USA locations (Seattle, New York City). The 1.5TB VPN's are in Australia. That's the main difference, basically bandwidth costs us more in Australia so we can't provide as high an amount as in the USA. Hope that clarifies!

        • @dreamerman:

We're aiming to have a Germany (Frankfurt) VPN location available by late April. Let me know if you'd like me to open a pre-order link for this, so that you can ensure that you get one once we go live.

        • +1

          @LiamWithers: Great stuff Liam!!

        • @LiamWithers:
Hi Liam, do you offer speedtest on AU and US servers? do you intend to have a Japan or South Korea (Asia) server soon?

        • @Haoye:

We don't have a speedtest up and running at the moment. I'll try and get something up and ready within the next few hours.

We run two Japan servers over at our sister-service, however with the costs of bandwidth and IP's, it's unlikely we'll be adding anything in Asia for FixedRoute for at least a good few months, and even then it's an unlikely possibility.

          Thanks,
          Liam

        • @LiamWithers: My account is still Pending after more than two weeks (and this is for the existing Seattle service, not a product which is yet to be rolled out). My support Ticket #114805 has been open for a few days.

        • @daffyd: Hi there, apologies for this - our support team shall respond to you shortly.

        • @LiamWithers: Another week and still no response or service for the existing Seattle product.

Do you want our business or should we take it elsewhere?

    • Aus Netflix = FAIL

I think you're target market would be those trying to avoid metadata snooping, but not having to VPN OS.

Is the offer available to those who have already signed up?

Is it billed in $au or $US it comes up as $8.60 USD for me.

    • We have multiple different areas which our clients are interested in - plenty of our users are based around keeping a more secure connection, and we are very supportive of using VPN's to avoid any snooping! You raise a very valid point!

Yes, the offer is available to both new and existing clients.

You can pay in either $AUD or $USD. The conversion rate is roughly the same for both (give or take a couple of cents), so feel free to save yourself a few cents by choosing one over the other if you wish :).

    1500GB/year bandwidth

Thats roughly 100gig/month. Probably not much good if you are a medium/heavy user.

    • We're happy to provide upgrades at a reasonable additional cost. If anybody is interested in this, please email us on [email protected]

That said, 1500GB/year generally speaking is plenty for the average user.

    • +1

it depends on what you use if you i suppose.
I've had the vpn.sh service for 2yrs, which used to be really hit 7 miss, especially the australia servers, but it's been pretty good for the past 4mths.

I found it's handy for public wifi (hello Telstra phoneboxes!) and also for getting what appears priority traffic (better speeds) on Optus & telstra mobile networks. Inf act VOIP calls over 3g/4g are quite good over a VPN, where as without they're usually QoSd to death & unusable.

But yeah for a lot of techie people that amoutn of BW for home might not be enough

      • It definitely depends on what it's used for :). Most of our clients don't put all of their monthly traffic through a VPN, hence 100GB/month being plenty for most users.

Glad to hear things have been much more stable for you over the last few months - we've worked hard to bring a quality network in both Australia and New Zealand, now offering multiple servers in both locations.

Interesting to hear that VOIP calls go well over your VPN.

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated.

  • What kind of connection speeds would you expect over this service and what kind of latency from perth?

i would be wanting to use this to hide from prying eyes to stop those 'cease and desist' from the movie companies

what kind of experience could i expect when using this for that purpose?

    • Please drop me a PM and I'll provide some instructions on setting up a test account so that you can see how the network performs.

You can check latency against this IP: 163.47.20.12

      • will do thanks

for others as an FYI i got 54ms ping and it resolves into equinix over in sydney

definitely usable for perth people looking into using it for the same purpose as me as long as the bandwidth is there

  • +2

    Hi,

Considering most people would be using this for torrent software ( hypothetically of coarse) do you keep Records of what people have been routing through your VPN at all?

Also, im assuming the advantage to downloading through this VPN is that its set in Sydney so Down/Upspeeds would be much quicker then those going through the usual VPN services based in Europe etc. ( is there any risk to using a American based VPN)

Is there any down sides of using a Sydney based VPN? Besides region locked content (such as netflix)

I personally don't care about Netflix but want to make sure my downloading is anonymous.

    • Download speeds won't take much of a hit if getting it from Sydney vs UK or Sweden. Latency WILL take a hit but once you get a constant stream as long as the VPN company can upload faster than you can download, then both will max out your internet connections.

Find a gigabit VPN connection from ANY provider (I would recommend PIA who also have Australian servers and don't hold any logs) and it will max out ANY commercially available internet connection in Australia.

    • We do not keep records of what you've been accessing, however due to the nature of having your own IP, if the copyright holder (say, HBO for Game of Thrones) contacts us with an abuse notice on one of our IP's, we can then match the IP to see which client has been accessing such content.

Generally speaking, if your usage is low to moderate, and you're not concerned about uploading all that much, it's unlikely that any abuse notices will come through.

We have a TOS to cover ourselves with situations like this. Please note that our TOS is simply there to cover ourselves, and we refer to it if absolutely necessary (generally speaking with difficult clients who don't make things easy for themselves).

If you're sensible and mature with your usage, it's unlikely that you'll see any issues.

For your situation, as far as I can see, there are no downsides to having a Sydney based VPN.

  • So it seems I need a bit of software (from their site) which is the VPN client software ?
If it is, then it sounds like the same process I use on my corporate laptop where I have a Juniper Networks VPN app ?

So if using a public hotspot, hotel etc … then any banking I'd be doing should be done via a VPN?

And is it $11 per year per what … device, number of simultaneous connections, user IDs ?

Can I have multiple same user IDs connected e.g my laptop (on in the hotel room), then go roaming with my Android phone as well ?

    • +1

Hi there, that's correct. We provide some software called Viscosity - it's a great piece of software maintained by SparkLabs, and they usually charge $9 for a license, which we bundle for free.

Once the software is installed and your account is setup, it's as simple as right clicking an icon in your taskbar and "connecting" or "disconnecting".

Many of our users do indeed use the service to keep themselves secure whilst connecting to sensitive websites in public WiFi hotspots.

For the $11/year, you get a total of 1.5TB bandwidth usage, and can connect up to three devices at any one time. So yes, you can have multiple devices such as your laptop in a hotel room, as well as your Android phone whilst roaming connected to the VPN account at the same time.

      Hope that helps!

      • Thanks. Answers exactly what I needed to know.

        • Good stuff, feel free to shoot me a PM if you need to know anything else!

  • OP, Are there any plans to add a UK based VPN service?

    • +1

There aren't any immediate plans for this, but being based in the UK, it's likely that we'll add a UK based VPN location at some point later on in they year. If anybody else is interested in this, please do post here so that we can gauge what level of interest there is.

  • Hi Rep,

Do you have any idea about aprox download speed from your US server?

    Thanks..

    Suresh.

    • Hi there,

This can vary depending on which of our USA servers you select. At a very minimum from Australia, you should see 5Mbps - however it's likely to be above this the vast majority of the time on all of our USA servers.

      Thanks,
      Liam

      • +1

        Thank you !

  • I'm somewhat of a novice with this technology, but aware enough to know there is value in this via the stealth factor. Thus, may I ask… given there is a usage limit through FixedRoute can one 'switch' back to their given ISP in order to (more specifically) use FR for downloading?

Am I on the same page and thinking this through correctly?

Many thanks - looks most interesting!

(I see and accept that one can upgrade to include extra usage).

    • Hi there, I'll try to answer this as best as I can - please let me know if it's something else that you're trying to confirm.

You can very simply right click our icon in your taskbar, and connect/disconnect from the service as you wish. Whilst connected, all of your data will go over our servers, giving you that "stealth factor" which you desire. Whilst disconnected, everything will go straight through your standard ISP. So this gives you some level of control over how much data you push through our servers, ensuring that if you're close to your bandwidth limit, you can use the service less frequently.

      I hope that helps!

      Liam

Perfect - thanks kindly Liam. Best of luck in your venture!
I'll be taking a closer look and very likely joining up shortly.

        Regards.

        • No problem, thank you! We hope to have you on board for our launch.

          Thanks,
          Liam

  • Hi, Does the annual payment get automatically taken from our paypal account? If so, how do you cancel if you no longer require the service?
Will you notify by email when the service is live?

    • You will get an email from PayPal on how to change or cancel the auto renew option.

    • As noted from TilacVIP, if you do not wish to have the service renew, you simply cancel your subscription with PayPal.

Yes, when the service is live we will inform you via email with all the necessary instructions on getting setup.

      Liam

  • Signed up and paid about 5 hours ago, but other the the welcome and payment notifications, I have yet to receive an email of how to set this all up.

Just curious how long it takes to receive this, as there is nothing in the client portal that I could see that illustrates how to set it all up using Viscosity.

    • Hi there,

Setup instructions will be emailed to you when this goes live (current ETA is 5th April) please sit tight until then and we'll get all access details sent to you.

      Thanks,
      Liam

      • +1

        ok Cheers

  • I paid the $5 to get the $25 Free Account Credit as listed on offer.fixedroute.com, however it does not seem to be in my account. There only seems to be an option to pay via PayPal instead of account credit to sign up to this offer. Rep, can you please assist me with this dilemma?

    • Hi there,

Could you please drop me a PM here, or open a support ticket (http://my.fixedroute.com) letting me know the email address on your account. I'll get this seen to right away.

      Thanks,
      Liam

No worries. Thanks for sorting it out. 😊 +1 for support.

        • @ieatcrackers: No problem, drop us a ticket if you need anything else! :)

  • Any word on how this launch is going?

  • Still no information. It was supposed to launch on the 5th April. What is your revised date for the launch?

    • If you've placed an order, you should have received an email regarding this. Our provisional ETA is 16th April, however this is due to us waiting on a third party who are yet to resolve an issue at their end.

  • Any updates Liam?

    • We really are sorry for this. Without going into all the details, we have worked with a company for a long time who perform some preliminary checks on our services before they go live. They've gone off the radar, and I'm trying desperately to get in touch with them, as ideally we don't want to have to cut off our relationship with them. That said, if the situation doesn't improve over the next couple of days, we'll have to look into alternative options as this isn't sustainable.

It's not the first time we've had issues with them disappearing, and frankly it's unfair on our clients, and reflects badly on us.

If I've heard nothing within 24 hours, I'll start looking into alternatives.

Again, we're really sorry for this - I understand that it's not acceptable - I've made that perfectly clear to the company we work with for these situations. Original ETA from them was for the end of March, giving us a few days to do some final prep before the launch ETA of 5th April, and the reason we haven't delivered on our ETA is simply because they haven't delivered the work that they'd agreed to.

I really do sympathise with all of you who are still waiting for this to go live - and hope that you can also sympathise with me as this is frustrating for everybody.

Emails will be sent out tomorrow to those who are waiting on service, so that we can explain the current situation.

      • +1

Well your reply above was posted on the 18th April. It's now 22nd and I have not received an email, as I am waiting on the service.

Stirlo's very first post above sums it up.

I also have a subscription with your VPN.sh service. I am having all sorts of problems connecting to all the 4 Australian servers.

I submitted a ticket on the 17th and a follow up email and am yet to receive a reply. 5 days and no one has bothered to even attempt sort out my issues.

        This is disgraceful service.

I want a refund on my fixedRoute subscription immediately. I am sick of waiting.

      • I haven't received any word on this either. Not even a single email. Surely you could have spared the time to send out an email to all the people who've pre-ordered. This is very unprofessional.

        • Well it clearly shows the antics this guy is up to. Take peoples money, don't supply what they have paid for and don't bother replying.

It's over 6 days now Liam and not a word on what's happening. As per your quote:
"Emails will be sent out tomorrow to those who are waiting on service, so that we can explain the current situation".

People like you should be banned from a places like Ozbargains.

  • One week on and still nothing. This bullshit is getting tiresome.

    • It's obvious this guy is nothing more than a thief and a liar.

Sells things he doesn't have or can provide.

I am putting it a dispute via PayPal today.

Even if he somehow miraculously delivered today, I want no part of anything to do with Liam and his businesses. I am still waiting on my ticket opened on VPN.sh to be answered and it's now 12 days and not a word.

Anyone seriously want to deal with this type of service providers.
