Reviews:

Further savings:

  • New members get $10 off their order
  • NRMA members get 10% off ($15) - check here
  • High yield toner can be had on ebay for about $20 link

This is similar to the recent Aldi Fuji Xeros Mono MFC:

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182457

However, I had a friend who said it was not the greatest machine so far (slow, wireless G only, weird controls). Although it is much more capable, compatible (postscript) and has more ram/processor.

I used the NRMA member offer and got it for $143. 6 units remaining but I have an email confirming that more units are on their way before the 31st.

Note: Officeworks sell the next model up for $199 but it has no ADF. The L2720DW and L2740DW are pretty good too but again, they are $200+).

this fax is ok, if your doing any sort of major scanning/faxing the paper feed isnt the best for multiple (>5) sheets. it doesnt feed that great.

I got the MFC-L2740DW for $249 or so and its worth every cent. not one paper feed problem. every letter comes in I scan it straight away and throw away the original.

This looks like Brother's clone of the Fuji Xerox M225 DW which can be had for $109 at MSY:
    http://www.msy.com.au/qldonline/peripherals/14827-fujixerox-…
Ignore the picture on MSY's site, it actually looks like this:
    http://www.fujixeroxprinters.com.au/en/Products/multifunctio…
Which is basically the same as the Brother.
Staples might be cheaper if shipping from MSY, but for local pickup I think the FujiXerox wins. Both require separate drums however, so don't be fooled by the toner price alone when it comes to consumables cost.

    • Holy crap I think you're right. Trying to get the order cancelled as we speak :-(

I thought I had a good deal on my hand but I should have expected nothing less from the OzB community :-)

      Thanks man!

      • Well you miss out on FAX with the Fuji Xerox printer. Just thought i'd let you know.

        • I know, I won't be using fax. Thanks for letting me know anyway.

    • Not completely exactly the same but very similar apart from not having FAX. The Brother MFC-L2700DW has more buttons (such as FAX buttons) on the control panel. It has FAX whereas that Fuji Xerox model doesn't. The Fuji Xerox version is only scan, copy and print whereas the Brother is scan, copy, print and fax. That could well make up the difference in price. Basically the Brother printer is a better printer if you want FAX. It's a version of that Fuji Xerox printer with full FAX capability.

I'm pretty sure the Brother and Fuji Xerox printers are made in the same factory so that's why they look almost the same apart from colour.

Also some thing is off with the description of the printer from MSY. The product details makes no mention of scan and copy and the picture is not off the M225DW.

      • Yep, haven't faxed in a long time and don't plan to if I'm honest. Saved me $40 bucks I hope :-)

Man, Ozbargain should have a feature to award comments with some sort of a medal that gives you bragging rights for being helpful e.g. reddit gold.

        • Some thing just seems odd with the printer from MSY. As i said printer picture and description doesn't match the M225DW model. The printer picture shows a printer only model and no mention of scan or copy in the description. What gives i wonder.

        • I'll make sure don't worry. I have a printer right now for backup so I won't be left without one if there is delay.

  • Extra $10 off if you sign up…

  • Bought the Brother Laser MFC-7220 from this mob for $1.60, and sold it for $80. Get in!

How come i didn't know about that. Damn that was a huge bargain.

I don't think this has duplex copying, which is why we got the 2740DW for $230 a couple of months ago (Officeworks price match of Printer Supermarket, IIRC)

    • Yeah, that was my ideal choice. However, I can't justify spending that much in my current budget. Maybe I'll watch out for it.

No probs. Just wanted to give the heads up.
We print 3,000 pages a week, so double sided everything is mandatory to save paper!!

  • Another notable difference between this MFC and the Fuji from MSY is that this one has an ADF.

    • +1

The Fuji Xerox M225DW has an ADF. The Brother MFC-L2700DW printer also has an ADF. The only real difference between the two apart from the colour is that the Brother has FAX capabilities while the Fuji Xerox does not have FAX.

      • Sorry, my mistake. Missed the bit saying MSY's picture was wrong (which is what I was basing my comment on).

      • EDIT: hollykryten already spotted the incorrect details listed by MSY of the Fuji Xerox printer.

I suggest comparing the cost per copy with the xerox and the brother. I used to work for Xerox and those presky little brothers often blew us out of the water on cost of ownership. So look at toner cost and yield, plus drum cost and duty cycle. I personally use an old brother 8860DN which is slightly bigger but cheap as chips to run. The document feeder is duplex too! I have not done the calculation in a long time but the 8860DN cost per page was abut half that of the smaller brother models like this. It adds rather quickly. Not as bad as those $9 Dell inkjet printers a heap of folks got a year or two ago. Cheap to buy but the ink was something like $50 a pop - and they ran out quick.

    • +1

Yes. I currently own a Brother DCP-1510 printer and i can literally buy a new compatible 1500 page TN-1070 toner cartridge for under $20 delivered off eBay. Brother printers are very economical to run.

  • Sold out. Says this when trying to add to cart.

    Sorry… we're out of stock.
