How much would you guys pay for a slim leather wallet

100% cow Leather, "card holder" wallet with 2 or 3 card slots on each side, with room for cash in the middle (notes folded in half).

I'm in the process of designing my own and will be ready to sell in the next few weeks, and instead of spending loads on Facebook/Google ads, i'd rather reduce my margin and promote my brand that way.

If you can help me out with the poll that would be be great. This is inclusive of shipping.

I would add a link with some photos but don't want to violate any terms and conditions. Here's a similar one from lacoste. Not sure if this model allows notes in the middle, but mine will. http://thecarry.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Lacoste-Fitzg…

$0-$10 for me. I only ever carry around 4 cards and a couple notes in my wallet so don't feel the need for having a bulky or costly wallet. Gone are the days of cash and coins.

Id be really keen to see more wallets with the RF Tracker in them with an app so I can find it. Always losing mine and Id be happy to part with over $50 for a decent one. Also pair it with a nice key ring with tracker … also lose those!

    • I like this idea can't find any though

I pay for my slim wallet when the missus takes the notes out each week….

  • +1

I'm seeing the bulk of the responses in the 16-20 range which is good… I can afford to charge $20 I think initially and still pay the bills. The biggest killer is going to be the shipping. Crazy that I can get something shipped to you from hong kong cheaper than I can from here in QLD :(

    Cheers

Ship it flat as a letter.
Search "letter mailer" on ebay for the slim boxes that classify as a letter.
Happy to give feedback/review on pre-production samples.

      • Thanks, would love some feedback! And i think you've saved me a lot of money on the letter idea. I'm getting some "factory seconds" that didn't pass quality control. Can send you a free one if you like? PM me your shipping details

Once had a super slim nice wallet from Big W bought for under $10 until it got stolen.

Bought a Belroy for $90 but it was too big and worse than the Big W one.

Now I want to buy one of these:

Oh that looks really good, been looking for something like that, thanks!

It's not a leather wallet but IMO it's better.

I paid EU13 for mine in Florence (says Italian, but probably made in China) so that's my rough price range.

  • I have something like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Coach-Mens-Wallet-Money-Clip-/181…

Couldn't find the link from the coach website as it's only available in the US.

Best wallet I've ever had and worth the cost too

edit: i'd also check out kickstarter. They tend to have a lot of wallets on there. Most are crap, so it's worth doing the research from there to ensure you don't make the same mistakes.

  • Try out the liquid wallet. I know it's not leather but I find it to be awesome and minimalistic.

  • So this is more like those pass case?

Where would you be looking at having them made? I think you'll find that a lot of people would be quite happy to pay a little more for a quality product made in Australia that they know is going to last, compared with something mass produced that they know at the outset is junky, but consider a throw-away after a short time anyway.

The tracker is a fantastic idea.

Nice-looking card-holder by the way OP. If I was in the market for such a product I'd say maybe $25ish, if they're Australian made. (I previously voted in the $16 to $20 option but changed it on seeing your product.) Would happily double that if the cards were covered, but I realise that's more product and time.

      • Thanks!

I agree with your comments regarding made in Australia.

    • The samples I've received from my supplier in India are fantastic. I was also doubtful but they are better than anything I've seen here of this style. For the kind of volumes for a little starup fella like me Australia isn't even an option for this kind of production

    • +1

Exactly what I was looking for and only double what I want to spend!

      • +1

yea early adopters always have to pay a premium.

    • They are really cool, but I wouldn't sell something like this, cause I know that personally I wouldn't be spending over $50 for a wallet, even with those features, and it probably wouldn't be worth their time at that margin.

  • Ok thanks for the comments!

    To answer a few questions:

    • These are made in India as per my design and label (palmera apparel). I also have shirts and watches on their way. All simplistic and unpretentious designs
    • Variants are black and brown, 6 card slot and 3 card slot variations, fit notes folded in half in middle (pic of brown leather 6 card one here: http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0776/5791/files/IMG_1070_la… )
    • The RFID tracker is a great idea, thanks, will consider for future versions
    • These will be sale next week for $20 including shipping. Site is showing $40 at the moment, but I will do the opening special for $20.

    Cheers
    David

    • Can see i'm an ozbargainer with the citibank visa signature and loans.com.au card :D

    • I meant to say 6 card slot and 4 card lot variations. So 3 slots and 2 slots each side respectively.

  • Please let us know when the sale starts.
I see you say "your site" but you might have to point us dumb ones in the right direction.

  • Thank you - PM would be good

  • I think I got a similar one from Oroton for about $20-$30

  • I paid US$18 inclusive of shipping for an Ezgo Slim v1 wallet that can fit a lot more cards and has built in RFID jamming (so the cards inside can't be read). Not my EDC but have been quite happy with it the times I've used it. Features wise I think this beats your product, so I would consider paying around $10-15 for what you're selling.

The Ezgo Slim was originally a kickstarter project back in 2013. Their official store only sells v2 Slims now for US$22 + shipping, though it looks like you may still be able to get v1 from Massdrop for ~US$25 inclusive of shipping to Aus (same price for v1 or v2) — this is where I got mine from last year when the v1 was cheaper.

    Thanks - got mine

    • Good - wasn't able to send you a PM due to your privacy settings

      • Sorry about that - didn't know - changed now.

  • Good work!
Personally, I have a lot of cards, close to 10. Is that not normal?

    • I find a lot of guys in the 17-30 range actively try to limit the amount of cards they carry, for example ditching VIP cards and the like, so that they don't have a large bulky wallet in their jeans.

A lot of my friends have 2 bank cards, a drivers licence, and one other generic card, and put coins in their pocket.

    • normal for me. credit cards, work passes, license, medicare, surf club, a few business cards that you get given during the day etc.
      and room for receipts.
      coins in my pocket.

  • Can we put in order for 6 card says out of stock on site or is this deal only for the 4 card?

  • +1

For anyone still following this thread…

Thanks to the success of the first deal on OZB I've managed to put in a larger order and have made some tweaks to the design..

    • New polka dot lining!
    • Softer cow hide leather
    • Additional stitching for durability
    • New packaging (cool reusable hessian bags)

If you're confused by the prices in pounds its because I've been in London for a month or so and decided to test out the market here.

Going to do another $20 sale in a few weeks and revert charging back to AUD. So thankful for the support on OZB :).
