Amazon: "Sorry, this item can't be shipped to your selected address." If so, why are these 'deals' on OB?

Always look for listings that specify 'Shipped and Sold by Amazon'.
Except in a few specific categories, like (certainly of late, I believe) Nth.America-only-voltage &/or warrantied appliances and some electronics, a high proportion of stuff (with some weird exceptions) will ship.A (limited) number of sellers - other than Amazon - will ship to Australia, but you need to ask them specifically.
According to Amazon….
Go to Your Account.
Select Manage Address Book.
Define your default address.
When searching for products, select International Shipping - Ship to <Your Country> to filter results.See this screenshot

The best thing is to log onto Amazon Global at the start, so most stuff there will ship internationally. Mostly alcohol based products like perfume will not be shipped from the US due to airline rules, but noticed that lately many sellers from US are beginning to ship that too. You know when it does not ship as it's highlighted This Item Does Not ship to Australia
Which deals are you referring to?
Amazon deals posted on OB tends to be one's that does ship to OZ. In some circumstances they may be products that will cost less even if you add in the cost of freight forwarding. Though this has become very rare with the fallen OZ dollar.
