There are two Woolies near me. One marks down around 6pm if they have a lot of stock, then does a 2nd mark down at about 8:30pm for whatever remains. The 6pm mark down isn't aggressive enough.
The other marks down about 7pm with 50%+ off the bat. They rarely have much left by 8pm.

  • In the Coles near me, it's around 6pm (store closes at midnight). Now to $1.20 for 4 iced donuts

  • best to pay the extra 50cents and get nice fresh ones !

    • 50 cents less >.<

I think all the supermarket donuts are dreadful quality even when fresh, but the savings on bread are substantial. The difference for a loaf of turkish bread, for example, is $3.50 vs $1.72. It freezes well too, if you like it for toast.

      • coles dosent mark down their bread

  • It changes all the time - I'd say anywhere between 4-8 with 5-6 being the most popular time. I worked at a Woolies and it was different on any given day, depending on how busy the bakery guys were/how much stock was left.

Same with how much it's marked down, some days they'd do 10%, some days they'd do 80%. Some stores I notice always mark down lots (50% +) but some stores in my area never mark down or only by 20%.

I'm pretty sure it's just up to the person who's on the afternoon shift in the bakery how and when they want to do it. If they have a standard rule no Coles/Woolworths I've ever been to has followed it.
