Our neighbour did the sleep test and was told he needed a machine too. He couldn't get along with the mask, so mentioned it to the doctor who promptly sent him off to the dentist to have a mouthpiece made instead ….. might be an option for you. He's diabetic, so it was covered under a health plan, but although the mouth piece is not cheap, it would be easily as cheap as a machine if your doctor thinks it would work for you, and much easier to sleep with

  • My dentist sent me for a sleep test and I needed a CPAP machine. I did a search online and found the prices cheaper than the sleep clinic but not by a huge amount. When factoring in the personal service and free accessories included with the machine from the sleep clinic including free check ups and adjustments I went with the one from the sleep clinic (about 10-20% price difference).

Order from the US Resmed S9 autoset 899usd http://1800cpap.com/resmed-s9-autoset-auto-cpap-machine-with…

Aussie prices range from around $1800 plus another $80 or for the climate line.

I've ordered from 1800cpap a few times and delivery is quick under 5 days I just got a Tap Pap mask and it's brilliant (No head straps)

I can't believe the difference in aussie prices.

  • Hi Thankyou Geewiz subydooby and 2 cats
My sleep clinic in melbourne didn't offer free checkups or adjustments or offer discounts.

I will contact my dentist to check for mouth piece and will check US Resmed s9
    much appreciated

  • HI Shelly,

I bought my S9 from here

    http://www.secondwindcpap.com/

    very good service.

The have the New, Zero Hour (Open Box) ResMed S9 AutoSet and Accessories for $699 USD.

The equivalent in Australia is $1795.00

You need to make sure that the total is less than $1000 AUD otherwise you will need to pay GST.

I also bought the mask from them and it is so much cheaper.

However, with the mask, it helps if you try or rent some locally as the fitting is very personal.

    Cheers

    • Hi yymee,
Thankyou sooooo much for your reply will definitely contact secondwindcpap

      • No worries. 2cats has also provided so good info as well regarding > $1000 purchases overseas.

I figured if I do need it repaired, it could be sent back to the US under warranty or get it fixed here and it would still be cheaper than buying one in Oz. Even if I had to buy another one, it would only be the same price.

The other benefit of the S9 over the S10 is that the S9's humidifier can be separated. So essentially, half the machine is the humidifier and the other half the cpap machine. When I went on holidays, I brought only the cpap side with me and it essentially halved the footprint so it didnt take too much luggage space. (Anyone correct me if I am wrong).

        Anyway, best of luck.

  • Thanks for that 2cats but will probably need to find out if the following still applies

"For goods that are worth more than AUD1,000, you will need to fill out a special form called an Import Declaration, and pay duties, taxes and charges."

    http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4264.asp

    • yes but not gst

      I had to pay
      CUSTOMS DUTY 0.00
IMPORT DEC N10 AIR CHARGE (GOODS VALUE<$10,000) 40.20
      GST ("ON IMPORTATIONS") 0.00
      WET 0.00
AQIS − ENTRY CHARGES AIR 15.00
      TOTAL AMOUNT PAYABLE 55.20

      on a value/inc shipping of $1171.15 aud

  • Did you need to fill out the form?

I didn't know it was that cheap for over $1000. Hence I bought the S9 instead of the S10.

It is good information to know as my friend is also looking to replace his 10 y.o. machine and I can let him know about the above $1000 rule and the small amount of additional cost.
