Decent Android Tablet for general home use under $200. Mainly for Games and Educational apps.

Please Suggest me a Decent Android Tablet for general home use, and for educational apps for my 5 year old for 200 $.

We had an old ainol and that worked really well, used it to view videos while travelling on flights and long car trips. It has died now and I want to buy another Chinese cheap tablet, thinking of getting a 10" version this time.

What tablet do all of you recommend ? Any decent value for money ones out there ? My budget is less than 200 $

I'd prefer decent / reliable Chinese tablets with core android without any bloatware. We used to have so many of these on OZb before but can't find many deals on these

With the weak AUD dollar, a $200 budget roughly equates to a $150 USD spend.

Some of the above android tablets were released a while ago and run an older version of Android. They may or may not have been updated with Kit Kat, but you can search on XDA forums to see if progress have been made to upgrade these tablets to CyanogenMod.

    • Thanks a lot Scrimshaw, yes the weak AUD doesn't help with the purchase..thanks a lot for taking the time to reply, Do you own any of these tablets ? any experience with these?

      • Nope, sorry. Only owned a Cube U30GT. Tried to fix it a while back but have abandoned this project — the lipo battery expanded inside the tablet and caused the chassis to deform horribly. Chucked it in the bin before the darn thing explodes.

        • That sounds crazy, also once the battery expands they become a fire risk while charging, so good that you binned it.

What do you have now for a tablet?

        • I replaced it a while ago with a ASUS Memopad FHD10. (Got it for $300 dollars and it came with a bonus $100 store credit at The Good Guys).

Great tablet — 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, 1080p display. CPU only so-so in terms of 3d performance but that didn't mind me as I don't really get into 3d games on Android anyway.

  • I started looking around after seeing your post, was thinking of getting one myself anyway.

Found this @ DSE for $199. Seems to be compatible with CM11 as from the description on DSE, it is the 2012 model.

Might check it out in store tomorrow myself.

    • mate,
you don't want to go for a kindle fire, it doesn't even have google play unless you are prepared to Root it and stuff.

Also I'm not clear if this is the first gen(Without Volume Button) or the second gen Kindle fire tablets. The first Gen was horrible so beware of that..

      • It seems like the first gen, according to the CM guide, the 2nd gen has no cameras whereas the one on DSE listed as having cameras.

I was planning on installing CM11 on it anyway so I should have access to google play. Would make it more zippy too since CM11 doesn't have bloat AFAIK.
