Quilt Cover 1000TC?

Hey guys, looking for a new quilt cover and was wondering if anyone knew where abouts could get a cheapish/good one. I was looking at 1000 threadcount+ ones and wondering if these are any better than lower threadcount ones. Was looking at a few on ozsale, scoopon.

Cheers

  • if you were going to buy something like that for your bed you'll be better of getting a sheet set with some pillow cases, as they are the ones that usually touch you're body. the finer cotton does make a difference and seems to get softer with every wash. i bought a bed in a bag from ebay that is 1500tc egyptian cotton from the US for a pretty good price when the dollar was much better. I didn't think it was much better when i first started to use it but after sleeping with other sheets since i can tell the difference.

Some people use a 'top sheet' (basically, the flat sheet) which you will place underneath the quilt or doona.

I didn't really know until now, but in a nutshell, the top sheet is what your body will come in contact with and hence one should buy a high thread count sheet set that comes with both the fitted and flat sheet, and then buy the doona cover just for it's looks (disregarding the thread count).

Also beware that TC doesn't mean anything. Quite often companies use TC to rip people off.
You cannot compare 2 sheets which are 1000TC as one sheet may use higher quality thicker threads and the other sheet uses ultra thin threads.

Cheap Manufacturers and ones which market to the consumer market uses TC because its easy to trick people, people assume higher TC = better than lower TC. A 1000TC expensive sheets could possibly beat a 1500TC thinner thread sheet.

The ones which don't trick people are the companies which use GSM as their count, Most of these companies actually market to the businesses e.g. Hotels and Accommodation Industries. This measurement actually allows you to compare like for like, e.g. a expensive 100GSM sheets = a cheap 100GSM sheets in terms of material.

I've used these guys before, they market to Hotels and the general public.

Its nothing super fancy, but those sheets on the website will last you AGES and be super comfy if you liked the 5 star hotel sheets. haha

  • just picked up a couple of 1000tc sets from cudo … $65/set

  • Don't use quilts direct they will rip you off and watch they sell via other deal sites

  • Target currently have half price 1000TC sheet sets (and maybe quilt covers?). I still have a target one I bought years ago.

I think the Sheridan sheets are the best, but you get what you pay for.

    • I don't know about the thread count, but I'd second the suggestion for Sheridan. You can get some very good prices if you're prepared to watch for their specials. They're soft to the touch and last really well. Subscribe to their newsletters. Doona covers that regularly sell for over $200 can be gotten for less than $80 - if you're lucky, or not overly-particular about the print (I wanted a specific one) you can get them at times for much less.

  • The people responding here are correct that you're mostly laying on the sheets - but I have to agree, I've got a quilt cover which is woven with a pattern into it - I don't know what the thread count is but it's nearly 10 years old and it's been soft ever since I got it.

I'd love to own genuinely soft, quality ones, at reasonable prices, but that seems so difficult to find now.
