$20 — Half Price: Brazilian Food

So the food is hairless then ?

    • In that case, picking what you want on a-la-carte menu should be better, not paying by weight!

On topic: I love Brazilian food and their churrascaria. I met their system by weight back in 2001 and found it very economical.
      Perfect for heavy eaters!

      • Perfect for heavy eaters!

        and vegetarians…

  • "Por quilo" restaurants are common in Brazil and Portugal. I saw this place sometime back and have been meaning to give it a go. Problem is $40 worth of food is too much for me to eat. Also note the limitations on the offer:

Not available: Public holidays and Sundays. Vouchers can be redeemed for lunch Monday to Wednesday from 11am to 3pm or for dinner Thursday to Saturday from 6pm to 9pm until May 27. Bookings are not required.

  • I've been to the restaurant a couple of times for lunch. Generally, a plate of food costs around $15-$18 providing you don't go overboard. Add a drink (they do serve a number of Mexican beers) and you'll end up paying over $20. Take a mate and the $40 credit (for $20) will easily be used up.

The challenge for ozbargainers is working out which individual servings represent the best value (cost/weight ratio). Hint: don't fill up your plate on the starting side of the buffet….the better items are on the other side!

    • a plate of food costs around $15-$18

Do they include the weight of the plate in the price ?

      • No, the scales supposedly take off the weight of the plate. I think the normal price is around $42/kg and normally, I have around 400g on my plate.

Not valid for this offer though, is that they do give you your meal free if it is exactly 500g (no, you can't keep adding and subtracting items until you hit the magic number as the scales aren't near the food)

        • So bring your own lighter plate and/or pocket scales?

they do give you your meal free if it is exactly 500g

          What's the precision on 500 g? ± 0.5 g?

      • No, the scale is tared with an empty plate.

  • There's a place called Per Kilo in the CBD on Erskine St that does similar per weight South American food. Been there for lunch a couple of times and it's not too bad.

    • it's not too bad.

So it's just a bit bad?

      • Well the ozbargainer in me makes me analyse the per kilo value of each of the food choices, so that I get the most bang for my buck, but that takes a long time so I need to factor in my opportunity time costs…let's just say I end up scoffing it down before my lunch break ends so I never really got to taste it.

  • +1

Rather than weighing the plates, why don't they just weigh the guests… once on the way in, and again on the way out.

Of course there would need to be a scale at the toilet door as well.

once on the way in, and again on the way out.

So bulimic customers eat free ?
