DreamCheaper - A new site that exposes the ripoff pricing of Travel aggregators

Personally, i am sick of the predatory pricing that many of the travel aggregators give you sometimes for hotels. You can expose their dirty little tricks by changing your IP address and find that there is a different price depending on the country where the enquiry comes from. Ask yourself -how can i be getting the best price every time if they have different pricing for Australia versus the US for example?

A german company that has been flying under the radar for a while, that immediately cancels and rebooks your hotel at the lower price if it detects a different (lower) price than you. They are transparent in their pricing- they take 20% of your savings and pass onto you 80%.

The web site is here http://www.dreamcheaper.com/en#1

I have no current travel booked so I cant verify how well it works. i thought I would post it here so fellow ozbargainers can report back on whether they fulfill on their promise. Its free unless they save you money.

Hope this helps a few people

  • Very interesting, but Im scared to let them cancel my room booking!

  • It seems there's manual work involved by the company. It seems like a model where quick success can lead to poor scalability. I assume they're using their own aggregator of aggregators in the backend?

They say not to place hotels that have a cancellation policy. As a typical hostel booker I'm not sure how hotels work worldwide in general. Is a 24-48 hour cancellation period common? I assume if this service (or clones) become popular then lengthier cancellation policies will become more common. And don't some hotel booking sites need a credit card to book which may be asked for upon arrival?

Beyond that, I assume they make the new booking under your new name prior to cancelling the other - but do they also wait for your confirmation? Otherwise they hold your room hostage when you could have found an even cheaper price yourself (saving 20% of the saving and more). And since prices fluctuate so much are they going to re-book your room every week for, let's say 3 months, before you arrive? Wouldn't hotels or their aggregators start banning this practice?

Beyond that it's a great idea for offloading time-consuming price monitoring and re-booking to someone else. And I love beating systems. The only catch is that if this system becomes popular I can't see how it would work. If 2 remaining rooms out of 6 go down in price and all 4 of the occupied rooms are using this service - who gets the lower price?

that immediately cancels and rebooks your hotel at the lower price

I would hope they they book the new lower price first before cancelling your reservation!

"We only cancel reservations after booking the new ones — You always have your room!"
