Vaya - How Do I Leave Them without Incurring any extra costs?

Hi, can you help me plan a smooth exit from Vaya, without getting bitten by excess fees?

I've been on the granfathered $11 Flexicap plan for the last 2 years and finally received the email yesterday to say that I will be moved to their current plans from 1/4/15 (to be reflected on the bill on 5/4/15).

Before I first joined them, I read many stories on whirlpool about traps they have on charging you excess fees on the final bill. It's been 2 years now and I don't know if it still applies. All I know was the first 4 bills I had with them was confusing and I was being charged fees that I didn't expect. Since then, I tried to use only half of the available credit every month so that I could be safe from excess fees.

Now that I'm planning to leave them, I'm worried that I'm just going to get hit with fees somehow. How/when do I leave them to get the maximum benefit from my currect $11 flexiplan but that I won't have to pay a cent extra for leaving their service? I remember it was bad to port out too early in the month, because that's when they calculate the pro-rata charges. Also, what happens to the $20 security deposit we all recently paid, will that be refunded in the final bill or will it take months?

Hope someone can help out with my query, as when I first joined them I got stung from believing their customer service rep so I won't want to rely on calling them for answers.

  • Port out to a different provider. $0 cost. Cancel your service and you'll be stung for $30.

As far as the deposit goes and being billed monthly in advance, good luck in getting that back.

    • +1

To add to what Daabido said, port out to Aldi mobile 5$ prepaid sim. Its valid for 1 year if you want to reserve the number as well. And I got back the remaining credit when I ported out a number last November, simply call Vaya.

  • If they try to charge you for anything, threaten to call the Ombudsman, worked for me.

  • I only just recently transferred from Vaya to another provider. They will definitely try to charge you extra (as they did with my final bill) but you have to call them up to get it sorted. It's a hassle but you must do it. Otherwise it encourages companies like Vaya to do these kind of stunts to get more out of you and hope people are too lazy to do anything about it!

Also, with the extra $20 security deposit, I had to ask specifically to get that back, otherwise they would not do it automatically. Good luck!

  • Thanks for that. I'll definitely ask for the deposit back. I'm just a bit worried about porting out at the wrong time of the billing cycle and being hit by massive excess fees. I think that's one of their big catch for leaving Vaya. Obviously I've stung been when listening to their rep so I can't trust that they will tell me the truth about the trick that they use on everyone.
