GARMIN GPS 1390 with Traffic for $335

80

I saw this recently and didn't really think much expecting JB to be expensive but upon researching on GPSs more, I found out that this is really cheap! It is the GARMIN 1390 gps + the traffic receiver.
The 1390 is a 4.3" with rear view lane guidance, text to speech, bluetooth etc. The main difference between other expensive models is the lack of a FM transmitter, but either way it is an extremely good buy considering RYDA sells the 1390 by itself for $396 and the traffic receiver is worth around $100 already. Probably can be able to price match from officeworks.

  • can anyone explain what the traffic thing does?

    • woops I forgot to mention, my understanding and correct me if I'm wrong (which I'm sure you guys will) is that the traffic receiver allows the GPS to receive traffic information so if you are driving along a road with a traffic jam ahead, it will reroute the route to avoid it.
forgot to mention that the traffic only is available at brisbane, melbourne, adelaide and SYDNEY :D

      • do you know exactly how it works?

        • I have Garmin 265WT (traffic). GPS unit will highlight sections of your journey where there are potential traffic jams and expected delay. You can also bring up a listing of all known jams in your area.

The system is not perfect and is only as good as the information received by the traffic monitor (SUNA). Many times I have been in a jam and it has not appeared on the GPS, and vice-versa. It's a nice value add feature but more of a gimick to me. It still has a long way to go..

    thanks for this lori +1

  • could someone explain y this gps is good? like compared to other gps.. im confused with all these new models coming out..

    • This gps is good for many reasons and basically has one of the best running systems and maps in comparison. The only difference between and 'better' models is that there isn't a FM transmitter in it. But the best thing about this is that its a newer model, thats a GARMIN (Best brand out there, similar to tom tom). thats a reasonable price. If you would want something cheaper go for the the garmin nuvi 265wt which is also on sale but doesn't have the real life like maps in the city and bluetooth.

      • the real life map only in City? or something like google map thingy?

    • Secondly the newer Garmin 13xx models have an updated user interface. It's slicker and more responsive when you use the touchscreen.

  • looks good

Get iphone with "map my run"
    better & free app.

  • Is the Garmin 765 the only one with MP3 still?

  • I bought the 1390T from JB-HIfi about three weeks ago in Midland WA, I had checked prices on the web and around town dick smiths harvey norman good guys etc, the best they could come up with was the base 1390 and would throw in the traffic receiver for $344, I went into JB's purely because it was next door to the good guys and low and behold they had the 1390T advertised at an incredible $266 so I bought one.
don't know if they have any more but if looking you might want to mention someone got one recently at that price.
I even managed to copy the maps over to my older nuvi 310 which did not have the NZ maps and behold it worked so now even my old one has the 2010 AU NZ maps, I messed with the voice files also and manged to stuff them up on the 310 (still have to replace so street names are clear)I have been very happy with the 310 and even happier with the larger screen on the 1390T.
    good hunting.
