Hi,
I'm searching for a pair of computer speakers for about $200-$300, I like the B&W brand but it's too pricey so wondering if anyone out there have any suggestions, I like bass so need something with a bit of punch to it.
Cheers

2.1 - need some bass, so a sub would be good. but if the speakers are good enough with the bass then that's fine.
If you can wait and save a little bit more then I would go for the JBL LSR 305's. These speakers are as good as anything around the $1000 mark.
They are simply stunning…I have never heard music sound so good through a set of $400 speakers!

BTW, I also own B&W speakers and the JBL's blow them away!
They look pretty good, I might head down to JB after work and have a listen. But wait till when, they go on sale or is there a new model coming which will push price down?
They're very good! You can always take a punt and make a ridiculous offer to see what their lowest price really is :)
I've not heard of a new model in this series as yet…pretty sure these have only been out for a couple of years now?
I went to the store in town, they didn't have them on display. The guy took one out of the box but didn't hook it up, so I couldn't listen to them. There are the JBL LSR308's too. But they cost double, the guy at JB said he can do the 305's for $400 a pair.
The 308's would be overkill in the average size room. They sound exactly the same as the 305's but just louder and obviously more bottom end.
You can integrate a subwoofer with the 305's if you needed that extra bass :)
If you are looking with a budget of $200+, check out the Swan M10. I personally have a set and it is fantastic.
Great reviews of it on head-fi, not too sure why they said it was lacking in bass. After turning it up on the back, it was pretty good. Enough to shake the crap out of my monitor on top of the woofer lol.
Anyone got a pair of Audioengine 5+ and got any comments on them?
For around $400 consider Aktimate Mini+ ($410 + shipping on ebay). Most reviewer prefer that to A5+. Some other recommendations are Swan M50W, Klipsch Promedia 2.1 or Creative T3. I have klipsch and T3 and also have listened to z623. IMO z623 offers good value for the money but I think Klipsch has better sound quality (especially the low freq).
I recently purchased a pair of Kef HTS3001SE, you have any idea how I can use these as desktop speakers? Eg you know of any sub that have pre-amp for speakers?
Is there an advantage in getting dedicated PC speakers instead of getting a Hi Fi system and plugging your PC into that?
Might take a little less space. But a proper hi-fi can sound a lot better - especially for music.
got the logitech z623, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175730
less than $100. would recommend this unless you are hell bent on spending min $200
its good, really bassy with the option to dial it back on the satellite.
EDIT: sorry op, can you clarify if you want just a pair of speakers, or 2.1?
