Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game Scum and Villainy Expansions from $21.91 - $43.34 @ Book Depository

90

Many stores in australia are not getting the Most wanted expansion pack, and ones I have found here want upward of $70.00 for it, ebay it is trending at $49.95 at the time of writing book depository are offering delivered :

X-wing miniatures most wanted expansion pack $43.34
X-Wing Miniatures Game: Ig-2000 Expansion Pack $31.06
X-Wing Miniatures Game: M3-A Interceptor Expansion Pack $16.85
X-Wing Miniatures Game: Starviper Expansion Pack $21.91

Book depository change prices frequently so they will change at some point, either up or down, and stock levels are all over the place, could be sold out tonight then back in stock for five minutes next week.

Their prices can't seem to be beat at the moment, my local game shop wanted atleast 30-40% more for each of these items (that they could even get in.)

  • What's the game like? I've seen the models around but dont know much about it!

    • It's got a pretty easy learning curve for the Core Set (1x X-Wing and 2x TIE Fighters) but can grow to be reasonably complex quickly (not to mention expensive, if you aren't willing to hunt for a good price), especially when you start to add-on 3 or 4 expansions (and all of the subsequent cards that go with them).

I play it semi-regularly with three other mates over beers of a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Matches can run from 30 minutes to several hours depending on complexity and objectives. It's fantastic fun just trying to work out the best lists to fly in terms of pilots and weapons/upgrades but sometimes the dice rolls just won't go your way and the game becomes one of pure luck. Knowing how to fly each ship can be make or break your game plan too.

The barrier to entry is definitely price; you need to be prepared to spend a bit to get specific cards in certain expansions which some people will balk at. That said, you can always make up your own cards and just play "house rules". If you plan on getting competitive, there are shops in most cities that hold regular tournaments too; however, tournaments strictly require official cards and ships.

Overall, a great social board-game that has a strong element of tactics and strategy and lots of variation. Good fun with friends or random folk at your local games store.

  • Honestly never played it, I havnt had time to, looks freaking cool i've just been enjoying collecting the ships so far.

  • +1

I have seen this being played at Pax, its amazing but its a long game and has a lot of rules, defiantly not your typical board game,

However its great to collect the models :D

  • I play this game with my 9 year old son. It is great with just the ships that come in the base pack, I think it would get a lot more complicated with add-ons.

Its actually a clone of a classic and well tested table-top game about WWI dogfighting.

If you have the miniatures, its worth trying the game.

  • Me and some co workers play it occasionally. Usually we can get a game in about an hour with anywhere from about 4 - 6 ships or so in, assuming everyone knows the game going in. Bigger games will take longer. It's pretty fun and it's fairly flexible in that you can quite easily drop aspects of the game to keep it simpler should you wish.

  • Just wanted to point out that the Most Wanted expansion is now on sale for 23% off the marked price which brings it down to $39.69 delivered (free shipping included). That is an absolute STEAL for 3 ships plus all of the extra components to convert some previous expansions (Firespray, Y-Wing, Z-95 and HWK-290) to the new Scum and Villainy faction. If you have even 1 or 2 of those expansions, buying the Most Wanted expansion effectively gives you a new armada!
