Hello, Big W is having a massive clearance event starting tomorrow.

The plan is to get rid of old slow moving stock I was told some 150,000 key codes.

So far prices have been cut in Home Office, Nursery, Sleepwear, Underwear and Bulky Toys bikes etc. with more departments being added every 2 weeks.

Scanning around the store I found The Guy Leech Rowing machine reduced to $100 from $228

Stationery various pen, pencil and book packs reduced to $1 and $2 also a ton of the Lego branded stuff was marked well down.
These prices become active Monday (09/03/15) with the event launching Wednesday (11/03/15)

All these items are being grouped into prices and placed in bins around the stores.

There will be a lot of media attached to the sale as well.

as each store has a unique amount of stock the only real way to find the "bargains" is to get in and have a look.

But if there is something you've had your eyes on for a while odds are its going to be reduced.

I hope they get Pete Smith to announce it as a sale of the century. I miss hearing that :-)

  • +1

Silly question, but does it start tomorrow or wednesday?

    • +3

The Prices go down tomorrow (9/3/15) but the stock may not be isolated from the regular priced stock yet. Every thing is meant to be finalized and on show by Wednesday.

For example, in my store. only about 20% of the stationery stock has been removed from its standard aisle and placed in bins.

    • +1

You'll be getting the prices from tomorrow. However, the advertising and bin placement will begin on Wednesday.
      Correct me if I'm mistaken.

      • +2

        Bins should be already out

        • Ahh, thanks.

  • Looking forward to further announcements. Do I bother going to my local store tomorrow or wait until Wednesday?

    • +2

If you're free, head straight in for the bulky stuff in the morning before they go, it usually just what's on show. I think each store will vary on different type of stock, as OP said, best way to find out what's good is to go in your local store.

  • +13

BTW, I hope your stationery is stationary.

  • +1

    Any smart phones on sale?

  • +5

Any games or gaming consoles on special?
I'm looking in particular for a ps vita.
    Thanks

  • Any chance for an Xbox One special?

    • +2

      They're not going into liquidation!

  • Was in store on Saturday. There were literally 1000s of pairs of women's footwear being marked down to $2/$3 (at Kawana Shoppingworld QLD).

  • +6

There is a thing you can do if you want to speculate and have some free time - for the cost of $3, you can layby more or less anything which has not yet gone on clearance. Once the price drops they won't let you do it, but if you think something might be dropping, you can lock it in under your own name (at full price). Once the price drops, you can head in and ask them to cancel the layby but you want to buy certain things from it.

Sites like this and people running ebay stores mean if it's good, you have jack shit chance of getting it more than 24 hours after it drops in price. This works at kmart, target, and anywhere you can either layby or do a refund/rebuy trick.

    • +3

or without spending $3, you can just ask them to put it on hold. All full priced items can be put on hold within a reasonable amount for a maximum of 48 hours.

  • +1

They have been preparing for this since Saturday at my store but I was told only stationery will be discounted.

    • Which store is this?

      • +1

        Fairfield :)

        • Fairfield NSW?
Was there today and it definitely wasn't limited to stationery.
Quite a number of kids/baby toys were also massively discounted.

        • @SuiCid3: Yup the range increases each day, I've been doing a lot of drop zone things. Keep a look out for toys, had to go through a few pallets recently :)

Saw games like minecraft (psvita) for $10 and other xbox 360 games for $10 (battlefield 4, gears of war judgement, mass effect 2 etc.). Mens underwear (trunks for as low as $1) and game guide books from $5 (Halo 4, pokemon white/black, white/black 2 etc.). Don't quote me on this but i heard there were 500gb portable hard drives for $30 being sold but I think they might be gone already.

  • Great I was planning to go to Big W this week, hoping for some good savings!

  • Can anyone post if they see bike helmets on sale? thanks!

  • -1

Any luck that GTA V will be part of the discontinuation, due to it's 'R' rating.

  • +1

Thought it was skydiving gear sale and got excited but realized that Big W does not sell skydiving gear… on second thoughts wouldn't trust it anyway even if they did

  • I've seen summer apparel for $1 or $2 for a couple of weeks now, so hopefully there are more discounts in the non apparel section.

  • Heading to Big W now, see you there!

  • Has anyone seen any mark downs on exercise equipment?

    • +1

I've seen a few at my store. Benches, weights, bikes, treadmills were technically not flying out the store but were selling well.

      • What weights were marked down, there seemed like little has been marked down yet at my local big w(ballarat)I think the only weights marked down was the pack with 1kg 2kg & 3kg weights in it.

  • Waiting for it to open tomorrow..

  • +1

went to BigW highpoint - no sign of any markdowns. the staff were oblivious. nothing scanned down either.

  • +1

Many things at Winstons Hills. Most of them already gone :(

    • Also went to Winston Hills yesterday. Some wobbly Guy Leech stuff that while definitely not worth the full price, might be just about worth the marked down price. Some bins of crap. Lots of full wrapped pallets lying around waiting to be unpacked which makes me think there may be a lot of "bought in" stock. All in all very "Meh". Left with nothing.

  • +3

Zip, nada, nil at Big W Werribee,

  • +2

Big W at Macquarie Centre were just setting up at lunch time with nothing really worth getting at sale prices yet.

  • +1

I was at BigW Plumpton and picked up a Play Zone Jumping Castle that was normally $298 for $100.

It has an A4 clearance sign on it, advertising it at $150, but when I scanned it to check it was correct it scanned at $100. So I grabbed that straight away. Good present for the kids. There was another one of the same type I bought left, and 2 other jumping castles which also scanned for $100 when I took them to the price check point.

They had a 12V Dune Buggy that was $150, down from $300. Absolutely spewing about that as we bought the kids one for christmas last year at $300. Although we put it on laybuy in June last year and paid it off slowly, and getting it now wouldn't have been any good for a present.

It looks like they are clearing out the old BBQ/Patio etc. area and going to condense all the clearance items to that section. The drop zone signage is already up, and there's a few different things there. But most of the stuff is still near the locations they would normally be, and I saw a lot of stuff on shelves with clearance tags hanging off them and the prices being roughly half what they normally were. I'll be going back Wednesday to check it out and see if I missed anything.

Nothing at broadmeadows, only a trolley of crap stuff

  • Saw some Drop zone bins around my store mostly empty except for some random stationary stuff. Hopefully some more soon.

  • I forgot to take a photo, but at my local Big W store in Keysborough (Parkmore), the Guy Leech stuff was on special, 50% off his 'workout routine as seen on TV) stuff down from $99 to $49 and his 'pull up bar' (the door hanging ones) down from $20 (?) or $29 to $9. I did pick that up as the cheapest one I could find on eBay was $35 or something with shipping.

  • BIG W online has it as a "Mega Clearance" - Up to 80% off Mens, Womens, Kids, Toys and Sporting. I'm going to shop online and pick up in store (no postage) - Bought the kids grey school shorts (the good quality Stubbies ones!) online for $2 a pair last year - stocked up for the next 3 years sizes!

Took about 2 or 3 weeks for shipping if I remember rightly.

  • Forest Hill, Vic: Assoted stationary in a Drop Zone bin, mainly assorted highlighters and pens. A few random toys with clearance tags. They have a large poster at the front. I'll go back on Thursday once the new catalogue specials start.

    • Returned today. Bins are full. Mainly stationary, explorer socks, teething products and assorted toys. Also $1 Lever Arch File folders.

  • I picked up a jumping castle down from $298 to $100. They also had a jumping castle down from $248 to $100 and a water play jumping castle down down from $348 to $150. There were various motorized bikes and cars reduced. I picked up a motorized police motor cycle for $40. I also got a little tikes bbq for $30 down from $69. They had little tikes basket ball hoops for $30. There were various bikes on clearance, some cots & toddler beds.

  • Sorry, the trampoline enclosure is $30

  • Has anyone noticed if the 4.5ft trampolines are included?

  • +1

I went in store today and was looking for the Guy Leech Multi Gym. Original price was $298 but it was reduced down to $149. After waiting about 20 minutes for a staff member, I asked if they had any stock in the back as there were none on the floor. The staff member returned and told me that there were none in store but surprisingly he was able to order one even though they were clearance stock. As he was putting the order through, to my amazement, he said "Wow. It's actually down to $100." In my head I was screaming "yesssssss". Now I just have to wait until Thursday for it to arrive in store.

I also saw many other exercise equipment/machines marked down and plenty of stock available. This is at the Eastgardens store in NSW btw. Good luck fellow OzBargainers
