This isn't a new deal. Its been going on for a year or more… plus it is $1.10 booking fee per ticket for the Event tickets.

Thanks for the detailed post though!

    • +6

No booking fee for Event last time I bought tickets. Has this changed?

      • +1

Crap! My bad, I think the hidden booking fee was why it went up from $10 to $11 a while ago. No booking fee (visible that is).

        Thanks for the reminder!

        • +2

There wasn't a booking fee when it was $10.

Booking fee was waived for the telstra tickets.

        • +4

          @AzuAzu:

Agreed, there was never a booking fee. My point was that raising it by $1 was a way of clawing back the 'lost' booking fee costs. Typical Event really…

        • +2

          @AzuAzu:

There actually was… if you check out your ticket/invoice carefully, it will have said:

          $9 Telstra ticket
          $1 Booking fee.

Now it says $10 Telstra ticket
          $1 booking fee.

This was for Village, Victoria anyway.

        • +1

          @SavageCarrot:

Checked my many purchased in NSW, no booking fee mentioned in the invoice. Weird it would be different!

        • Oops, was gonna positive vote your comment, but accidently clicked negative.

        • Out of curiosity - when did the price go from $10 to $11? Fairly recently?

        • +1

          @shake: Mid last year

        • @WestSide: click votes under the comment, then you can remove your accidental neg :-)

I agree. This Telstra movie ticket deal has been going on for a few years, why telling us now? What's new?

I also know Optus customers can get Hoyts movie ticket for $10 each.

        • +1

I am calm, and I did mention this movie ticket deal for Optus customers in my post, but it is probably already well known by Optus customers by now.

Optus covers Hoyts, Palace, Reading and a bunch of smaller cinemas too. Many that I didn't even know existed.

Personally I think sure it's not a new deal. But it's been a while since posted and it's a decent enough deal and not spammed to death to not bother arguing about technicalities of the deal and just let it slide.

    • I know there isn't a seperate booking fee for these tickets, but in what world does it make any sense at all that there is a booking fee for paying online where there is no interaction with another human (therefore no wages to pay), but no booking fee for buying the ticket in person? Lunacy!

  • +1

Don't know why they have stopped it for alternate content and Bollywood movies. Last year it was ok to book all movies but not anymore.
Does anybody knows, how to get cheap tickets for village for above mentioned movies?

    • +1

Wait for Coles / Woolies / auspost to have a sale on village gift cards.

Should've had no expiry on the deal and be marked as long running.

Technically this one isn't a dupe as old deal was expired

  • Guys how to get the ticket for $11?

I try to buy "Cinderella" movie ticket from Telstra 24/7 account account link for 29 March Sunday 11am movie but the price is still remaining $15 not $11.Do I need to apply some sort of code or anything to make it become $11 ticket?

    • I'm also gettng $15.00 for the Cinderella ticket. It might be a special showing? There is only one showing available for that movie at the moment at the cinema I chose. I can get $11.00 "Telstra tickets" for other movies. It's also excluding all sessions for tomorrow being a public holiday.

      • There is a surcharge for VMAX -and- 3D, so if it's both at the same time it can be that expensive.

      • It might be a special showing?

        Yep.

    • Yep, it doesn't generally work for 'special screenings' previews and one-offs. Although it did work for Back to the Future last year!

    Normal price

  • I've never figured out this Telstra deal. Does a $2 prepaid telstra sim give you access to get $11 tickets or do I have to have a postpaid service?

    • +2

Correct. Telstra pre-paid accounts are eligible. Accounts stay active for at least 6 months after their credit has expired.

      • Cool, I can go watch Kingsmen AND Chappie for around what it would have cost me to only go see one.

  • How does this compare to the obrien offer 2 for 1 movie offer

    https://movies.obrienglass.com.au/

Buy 1 ticket get 1 free (requires a $2.50 processing fee)

    • +1

A good deal I guess, if you've bought glass and got the code. Is it unique? I'm guessing so.

  • The Thursday rental include Mud that's a really good film, much better than the rubbish that was on last time I checked it.

  • +1

thanks mate. I'm a telstra customer and didnt know about this deal.

im a regular at the movies so you just saved me heaps. cheers!!!

  • -5

"Does not include Bollywood movies." - Oh no… what a deal breaker. rolls eyes

    • For some people that's a big deal, at the cinema I worked at we had people who only came for Bollywood movies and nothing else.

  • Cinebuz Vip member here,
Been a loyal greater Union/event cinemas customer for 15 years

    $11 movie ticket
    $4 Vmax
    $4 3D includes glasses, no glasses $1

The only thing I have to say is that I wish event had a black yearly card like hoyts, event has yearly cards only for competitions, but not for sale, pity.

  • +1

Thanks for enlightening us, doubt people crawl OB for the 1000's of deals from 6 months ago to see what is still active :-P

  • Does buying tickets through this method also let me gain points/credit on my Cinebuzz card?

    • *Screensaver tickets with Vmax Surcharges earn 100 points. Telstra Thanks tickets earn 50 points for standard and 75 for Vmax sessions. Telstra tickets do not qualify for the online bonus points. Moonlight GA can be redeemed at 600 and Moonlight Gold Grass can be redeemed at 1500 points. Moonlight GA Earn 100. Moonlight Gold Grass Earn 250.

      https://www.eventcinemas.com.au/cinebuzz

      Standard 2D/3D Earn 100 Burn 600
      Vmax 2D/3D Earn 150 Burn 900
      Gold Class 2D/3D Earn 250 Burn 1500

Entertainment book tickets earn the full points.

      • That's interesting info re the Entertainment tickets earning the full points. Given the 1 free movie for buying 6 at full points, it likely makes buying the vouchers via Entertainment more worthwhile than via Telstra - provided you are vigilant and making sure the points are always applied at purchase.

        • I have been using entertainment book for decades, it works so much beneficial than telstra, if you do a calculation telstra $11 and the points does not give you value on the long run if your trying to get free movies, Telstra might seem cheaper but actually in comparision your getting ripped off.

          Ebook standard tickets
          $12.20+$1.10 booking =125 points
          Telstra
          $11 =50 points

          Ebook vmax
          $12.20+$1.10+$4 Vmax =175points
          Telstra Vmax
          $15 =75 points

          Go figure.

  • Perhaps it should also go into https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/category:entertainment

Wouldn't mind seeing that being put more to use.

I'm sure there are lots of other long running deals as that would fall under that though I can't think of off the top of my head.

  • What about http://www.waverleycinema.com/ where movie prices range from $6 to $10
