Anyone know what is the healthiest lunch ham to buy?
Probably ham off the bone rather than the processed ones that have been compressed into a "ham" shape.
This one claims to be ham off the bone, but it doesn't look like it is.
Triple Smoked Ham is 97% fat free.
Ask the deli assistant the percentage of meat in the product, not the percentage of fat.
Honey ham and other hams without the fat ring tend to be processed and have products added to them. Ham off the bone is closer to being just ham. Honey ham would probably be in the 80-90% meat range, while a ham off the bone would be 97%.

Is it Australian ham, most ham at Woolies and Coles uses imported pork and made into ham in Australia. ( the old contains imported and local ingredients trick)
Also check the pork content some are down to 80% meat.are down to 80% meat.
is the other 20% vegetables?
Water is pressure injected into it, to increase the mass.
Even at $13/kg, the water content is about ~3000 times more expensive than getting it out of the tap (at about 0.4c/L mains water), no wonder they do it, that's some sweet, sweet mark up for them…water, gelatin, fillers like that.
Ever notice how wet the low fat ham is in the delis?
I've never seen Honey Ham retail for $26.48 at Woolies
I thought the same. But all their ham has increased a lot in price lately.
How do you check if it is real ham (a single chunk of meat) or processed chunks glued together and pressed?
If you buy a whole one I check the ingredients and try to get the 95-97% pork ones, but you cannot do that from the deli. The people who work behind the counter can. I used to work in a deli and the hams are packaged in plastic which tells you the content and percentage of meat.
ask them as they have them all in packs in their fridges behind the counter.

check online :)
