MacBook Air 13 Inch Good Deal? Price Drop?

Having been looking to buy a MBA 13in 256G for a few weeks. But no good deal for a while.
With the new MBA 12in rumoured release on 9 March, it is weird no price drop for the existing model.
Any ideas? suggestions?

Yeah not sure about the Macbook air retina rumours. I am pretty sure they usually only heavily discount them at the end of the year (because that's when demand is highest) and the Australian Dollar is pretty weak at the moment so that could mean it won't be discounted for a while.

BUT, if those rumours are confirmed (that 12in will be released) i say there's a good chance the air will be heavily discounted.

  • Nobody discounts products based on rumours :) Once it's announced there will be a drop - but will the new model have more features you want rather than saving a few hundred…

  • In my experience looking around for prices, JB/Myer/(maybe DS?) will usually offer a discount just for asking (5-10%). Not for build-to-order that is, but if they have the model you want in stock, they'll usually be keen to sell them.

If there is a new Retina Macbook Air coming, it could well be a new line and not a replacement anyway. However considering there is an event next week, if you can wait the week, I definitely would.

You are crazy to buy one of these now, in 4 days they are releasing an update model of the 13 inch, with a new processor and better onboard graphics. It will be available with the exact same discounts as you can get now (standard 10%).

  • Apple will only discount old models once a new one is released, and only to clear existing stock so you'd better be quick. If the new model slots into the range without making the value proposition of another model look bad, forget about a discount.

  • Now that the new Airs have come out along with the new Macbook, does anyone know where to get a good deal on the 2014 model? I'd rather save the money seeing as all i need the computer for is basically the browser and word.

    • Wondering the same thing. I'm keeping my eyes out for any big discounts. However the weak dollar might keep the prices up :/

$1009. $250 less than "normal" discount. Not bad.

      • Yeah not bad at all! Do we think prices will come down much more than this or should i just bite the bullet?

        • I bit it. Happy with that price, happy to recycle a laptop as well. Win win.

        • @MyWah:

With the aussie dollar and Apple resale being what it is, you'll probably not regret it.

        • @mrmarkau67: Yep, i think you're right. Thanks for the heads up on the deal btw. Much appreciated.

      • Not a bad price although I have seen better specials last year and this is refurbished - technically 'used'.
Having said that, a friend bought an apple-refurbished ipad once which was absolutely indistinguishable from new.
