As much as I'd like to upvote this deal, I can't as Cebu Pacific run this deal weekly. I'm personally waiting for the $144 for Sydney to Manila return tickets to return (hopefully they pop up again in the future).

I managed to grab that several weeks ago :D

  • For everyones information the is a departure tax payable in cash when leaving Manila I think it was around $35 last time I was there.

Yeah I didn't think it was that much. I'm sure it was like $18-22.

I thought Manila was horrible - big, dirty and without much charm, but the rest of the country was beautiful and the people even more so. If I was to go back, I'd look to get straight of Manila and to one of the islands - Cebu is nice or maybe just check out Palawan.

Also agree Cebu Pacific is great - it's a budget airline, but the service was anything but. Very attentive and friendly. Seats are small, but I also got a whole row to myself to and from meaning full lay down for sleeping. Couldn't of asked for a better trip to be honest, and all for the princely sum of $150.

no way, that would be approx PHP1400.. pretty sure it's more like PHP200 (~$5)

Edit: Quick Google search says ~PHP500 for international and 200 for domestic. Must've had that on the mind..

    • +1

it was 550 pesos about $16 but now i think its integrated into fare.
      http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/669938/miaa-integrates-p550-ter…

Been 3 times for $143 return so this seems expensive.

    • +3

The tax is now included for all tickets purchased after Feb 1.

    • I paid 550 pesos on Feb 28 when leaving. I bought the tickets last year though.

    • +2

There are two taxes. One is for non-Filipinos, and was around 750PHP last time I was there. As paulaus says below, it's now integrated into the fare.

There is another tax for Filipino citizens who have to pay around 1600PHP (I think, it might have gone up). This is called a "Foreign Departure Tax" and, in my opinion, is nothing short of a rort.

    • +1

Please note that the departure tax that you used to pay at the airport, any airline tickets purchased from February 2015 onwards are to have the departure tax included.

Note that if you are flying to the likes of Kalibo and Cataclan after Manila, there is still an airport tax to pay.

  • you dont have to pay if you transit

  • As mentioned, this deal has been off and on for weeks. Paid that a couple of weeks ago for an easter trip. Would be better if they had the $143 return deal again..
Apparently the terminal fee has now finally been integrated for tickets purchased after 1st February 2015.

just got back 2 days ago. the best part about this was the fact the plane is less than half full.
got 3 seats to myself there and back. the stewardess said it is always like this.
    i paid the 550 peso's though.

    • How was your holiday?
Can you recommend places to stay, things to do etc?

      • -3

didnt really stay there long, just overnight on my way to japan.
also, the food is just barely edible.

        • the food "you" ate was barely edible. Flip good is GREAT! some of it shockingly bad yes, but lechon, sinisag etc all really good…

just because you stayed overnight and ate food doesnt mean ALL FOOD is bad…. stick to your felafels and kebabs there stavros

          @ShinjukuJR:

I go to Philippines nearly every month but i really dont see why they think lechon is all that. I tried it several times and always chewy or tough , give me a good roast pork any day over that.

I've been a few times with mates, and each time it's been a different adventure. We've had our own version of Hangover in Manila too ;) I'd say Philippines has by far provided the most random adventures in all my travels around Asia.

I would use Manila as your hop off point for other parts of the country.

If you're into beaches, islands, or water activities, go to Palawan (spent 3 weeks on this island), specifically El Nido or Coron. Well worth a visit before it becomes too well known. The outlying islands from there are spectacular. There's also WWII Japanese ship wrecks you can dive around near Coron.

Land next to a volcano in Legazpi before making your way to Donsol if you want to swim with whale sharks (went in Feb).

Bohol has some unique tourist type experiences like the chocolate hills and tarsiers.

I'll throw in Boracay too just so you can you've been.

Are there specific dates for this deal? I just tried to book in Nov-Dec and got quoted $300 each way!

    • +1

SALE PERIOD: UP TO MAR. 5, 2015 OR UNTIL SEATS LAST | TRAVEL PERIOD: MAR. 15 - JUN. 30, 2015

  • Seems if you add any connections the price is ridiculous? Ie, Sydney to Manilla is $199. Sydney to Cebu is $400.

With a 50% on time rating youd be foolish to book a separate connecting flight though.

    • Just go Manila to Cebu with AirAsia only about $20 with promos

      • "Up to march 5.". So think promo ends tomorrow or midnight 4th? (Which would be very soon)
I was looking just yesterday and was getting around $700 return so even though it's not super cheap it's half the price, but I don't want to figure this all out right now!

    Great country, 'beautiful' people/culture.
Manila is a polluted concrete jungle… just like most (all) other cities like it… throughout Europe & Asia.

These prices are unreal. It used to be a small pain to get there, and priced accordingly. I have no trouble convincing friends, with photos. But-now, prices get he job done :D

  • With the inflated AirAsia prices Manila is becoming a viable budget hopping point for south-east Asia (except maybe Myanmar could still be cheaper via Singapore). Kuala Lumpur as an overnight stopover isn't very exciting after the 5th time anyway. If you're unlucky or unimpressed with Filipino food (apparently home cooked is better) try their foreign food - I rarely do this in Asia because I'm cheap.

It's hard to pay more than $143 anymore though :)

    • I was looking last night and singapore seemed the cheaper hub (to SE ASIA) 80% of time

      • Definitely if you book now (if not more than 80%). I should have emphasised that it's only cheaper when the $143 fares return every now and then. Flying from the Philippines on average is expensive to everywhere except Malaysia and Singapore due to competition. But with the frequent $143 SYD-MNL return fares ((https://www.google.com.au/search?q=cebu+pacific+ozbargain&ie…)) and other specials you can get much cheaper than Scoot or AirAsia, especially previously in shoulder and high seasons (even Dec-Jan were available in at least one of the earlier deals). This may change over time as Cebu becomes well known (much like AirAsia no longer amazes).

  • We flew Cebu Pacific a couple of weeks ago, the plane was certainly not full at all and lots of people got whole rows to themselves. Not a fan of Manila, it is definitely not a tourist friendly city, but we went on to Boracay which was great. No issues at all with Cebu Pacific, plane was new and the service was totally acceptable.

Spend the extra and get the seats with the extra legroom at the back of the plane if you can!
