Cheap laptop/ultrabook <$800

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a cheap but long lasting laptop that can stretch me for a few years.

I would like to buy an ultrabook if possible (although budget is tight) and would prefer to have a new laptop with SDD (128gb+) or atleast easy ability to upgrade them with a good ozbargain in the future.

Not fussed by where the purchase is made from, even refurbished products will do. Although it would be preferred to have a 1 year warranty on the laptop.

What do i use laptop for? Mainly just browsing, watching vids, microsoft, potentially some gamining.

Budget can go up a little if a deal is too good to pass up.

Thank you :)

  • Also so far on my consideration list, i've seen some of these laptops:

  • How about a Surface Pro 2?
Very versatile, good power, good battery. I was going to buy a Yoga and then changed my mind at the last minute and went with the SP2 (October last year, even knowing the 3 was coming). No regrets here. It goes in my bag every day, and I use it like a tablet on the train. Keyboard is there if I want to do real work.

    • i'm not sold on the idea of tablets just yet. I had a wifi only one as a gift, but it wasn't faster or more efficient to use at home (when I have a full laptop) and when i'm out, i've got all the basic functionalities of a tablet on my phone?

But good idea still. Will research into it.

      • SP2 is more like a laptop than a tablet. It's specs are basically equivalent to ultrabooks.

It's too heavy for you to use it constantly like an Android tablets or iPad. You use it for drawing and taking notes, (Wacom stylus does palm rejection and has pressure sensitivity), using it like a tablet briefly when you need it to be, while being able to use it like a proper laptop with PC programs.

        • Agree - I couldn't read the newspaper on this holding it freehand. It's too heavy to be a tablet like an iPad. It's a tablet form factor with Ultrabook specs (i5)
