Good prices although US-based company not the best. Going to try out a month just to see how their speeds are on their Japan servers.

    • Japan server speeds were garbage (below 60KB/s) even when server capacity was at 3%. Also, OpenVPN protocols didn't work for some reason… went for a refund.

  • QUite good, pity they don't have a DNS service

I've been using IPVanish since Oct 14 and very happy so far. They have 2 servers in Sydney so when I'm overseas, I can look like I'm in Australia. My brother uses it to stream Foxtel GO from Australia to Bermuda on his ipad. Speed is good when I'm connected to Sydney servers - I don't notice any difference between having the VPN on or off.

Only issue is the desktop client crashed on my Win7 machine 2 or 3 times since I've signed up but just restarted and it's ok. Also, when I didn't set the client to start automatically with Win7 boot, I couldn't connect to my network. It just has to start but doesn't have to connect to VPN.

Best deal I could find back in October was USD $58.49 (converted to AU $69.53) for a year so this is a bargain.

    • What do you mean by "My brother uses it to stream Foxtel GO from Australia to Bermuda on his ipad."? Curious, because I'm thinking of getting an iPad and Foxtel Go.

Foxtel Go can only be used to view content when you are in Australia - it will not work if you are trying to use it from overseas because you have an overseas IP address. Using the VPN you can connect to a Sydney server, get an Australian IP address and appear to be in Australia.

        • Cool thanks for the info!

  • Well I decided to sign up but haven't set it all up yet so can't comment on that side of things. Reading a lot of articles and reviews they do seem like one of the better VPN providers re: speeds and data retention although that Patriot Act could kick in at any time.

I'll give it the 7-day trial and see how it goes. Speed is the only thing I am worried about as I'm only on a 8Mbps connection as it is so anything lower would kill P2P and streaming factor.

  • Why would you use a US based VPN provider? At any stage the US government could request wiretaps or logging and they would have two choices, go the Lavabit route or do as they are told. They wouldn't be allowed to publicly announce the request for years, you may never find out. You are better off supporting businesses elsewhere.

    • Nearly all the decent providers appear to be based in the US, all those that don't cost an arm and a leg anyway. I'm open to suggestions if people have experience with other services.

  • Used them Left them Never going back
